I really liked her comment too. We are all born somewhere and in some circumstance and that part is just luck. I think this random -being born anywhere- argument is the best against racism. Those with extreme racial prejudice never imagine they could have been born with other skin color or in another country. I met a guy who was born into extreme wealth (billionaire family), yet his life was very hard in some ways (a lot of them have died, and he never had any friends, just a nanny) and I'd bet many poor people will have a better life than him (family, friends, happiness, etc). I am proud of this girl's philosophy and that she had the courage to believe it was worth the risk to escape to find something better.

i agree. i wouldn't dare to compare people because that's not very nice but i do agree that south korea (and the rest of the world) has a responsibility. people say south koreans are scared of a reunification because they have issues of their own but so does literally EVERY country. that's not even an excuse. that's a bullshit excuse. also, if south koreas had a better welfare system they could assure ALL (basically) south koreans and north koreans to have decent life. but rich people really do hate poor.

I can see why the South Koreans feel that way. These North Koreans want reunification for 'selfish' purposes. They want to reunite with their families. They want everyone's lives over there to be better. But in the same way North Koreans didn't choose to be born there, South Koreans didn't choose to have a desperately poor neighbor. Reunification would cost an enormous price and not just in cash, and it would have to be paid over generations. I imagine most also feel little love-lost for people who hate them and treat them like they're devils. Propaganda or not, the hate is real from North Koreans. South Korea wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the United States, the North Koreans didn't set out to create 'North Korea' but to enslave the entire peninsula . In some sense I imagine they feel the North Koreans deserve their fate and if that's true personally I wouldn't blame them. Then you have the fact that, for most of the existence of North Korea and South Korea, the positions were actually reversed!! Life in North Korea was indeed better and South Korea was dirt poor. Where was the help from North Koreans then? The talk of reunification? The concern for South Koreans? And what has South Korea and the United States ever gotten by trusting North Korea and helping them out? Nothing, North Korea just uses them over and over and takes advantage of their kindness. All agreements ever made in good faith by SK and the US were never once reciprocated in good faith by NK, they just use them as a means to an end and betray them the first chance they get. But you want South Koreans, who feel little connection to North Koreans (and you shouldn't tell a country how it should self-identify) to turn their lives upside down for them and their future children in order to help people who give them nothing but lies, problems and grief?

@@samuelrs5138 Remember...the 2 koreas never wanted to be divided. The division came from the external interests. Remember...they have over 5,000 years of history together. They fought for their country together when the Japanese invaded them not that long ago. Ryu Gwansun statues in schools in South Korea are the symbol of their history fighting with Japan. They still share the same pain. Up to now, some still have their relatives in both countries. These people did not choose to be divided. The decision was made by their leaders and the World Superpowers. The only problem is the dictatorship in PDRK that deters the reunification.

RPG Yeah, the gap between East and West Germany is still large even when the berlin wall had been destroyed 29 years ago. A lot of people are skeptical if the two koreas are capable of reunification anymore considering how long they've been separated. United Korea might even descend into another civil war if they don't reunite the two countries properly.

Really great interview here. I've always known that this was an emotionally charged subject for the defectors, but hearing them talk about the economic benefits was really eye-opening. It's really unfortunate that some South Koreans can't empathize with them. There would be immense job opportunities to rebuild North Korea and integrate back into the 21st century, but the issue is do they have the funding to create those jobs? I suppose that's where politics comes in and that's where they start making deals, but it really would be the best way for them to reunite. Making it a gradual process would be the best way to ease everyone's minds. Education should be the #1 priority if reunification should ever happen. Not just for North Koreans, but for South Koreans as well. Really appreciate videos like this because these are the first steps to educating everyone about the importance of reunification.

UpChucked Well, the problem is that the young ones are going to have to support all of this. They will have to 'suck up' the consequences of a war they had no responsibility for. And if Korea is already hell for many of these young children, imagine how it will be with the crushing economic weight placed on them. Sure, many are going to be called selfish for refusing unification. But can we truly blame them? Why should they have their dreams and future crushed because of something they had no part in creating? And for as much as people can say that the benefits in the long run will be great, who will truly benefit from this? The economists? The politicians? You name it. And for how long will they have to suffer until these 'benefits' arrive? Yes, North Koreans are suffering a great deal. There is no denying that. But what about the young ones in South Korea, constantly driven to suicide by an increasingly oppressive and futurless society? Do we truly have the right to ask for any more sacrifices from them? I apologize if anyone feels offended by this. That is not my intention. Just some food for thought.

The younger generation is definitely on the short-end of this entire situation because regardless they'll be the ones living with the ramifications of reunification or a lack thereof. I feel there's no solution to be had here without both sides requiring serious commitment and support. I truly believe reunification is a long-term solution to many economic issues. The problem is that how long can South Korea carry that economic weight of North Korea. Job creation would have to be priority #2 and the infrastructure would have to be built first within North Korea to create these jobs that many young South Koreans are trying to obtain. I certainly don't blame South Koreans on not wanting reunification, but what are the other long-term solutions? I'm curious and wonder if Asian Boss can delve into some economic topics about that.

If they sell there natural resources at the prices they are worth it, they can use the money for paying the jobs. The initial cost might actually not be that high for south korea. :) It might be a view bilion but after a view months they could already start to see profit!

UpChucked, the funding will come from South Korea's wealth fund since South Korea is very rich. Also a big chunk of the money will also come from foreign investors. There will be a huge opportunity here for the world, and I am absolutely certain that many global companies will be rushing to invest in North Korea. It's mentioned that they have $6 trillion in natural resources, but that number is from the early 2000's. Today's dollar value will be much higher. Much of that has been buried in the ground untouched because North Korea lacks technology and they don't allow foreign companies to dig them out. Also remember, colonial Japan used to have huge gold mines in North Korea when they held Koreas as their colony. North Korea has world's third largest uranium deposits, not to mention all kinds of valuable minerals. And it's not just about natural resources, it's about Korean peninsula being smack right in the middle between China, Russia, and Japan. Korea would be focal point of a transportation hub for manufacturing goods or resources like oil being transported between Russia, Korea, and Japan. Right now, both South Korea and Japan get expensive oil from Middle East via ships. What happens if a pipeline is built from Russia to the rest of Korea and Japan? Cheaper fuel, and a huge boost to competitiveness to those countries. These are just few small examples of a cascading effects and benefits. And don't forget, 25 million North Koreans will need daily necessities like shampoos and toothpastes. Can you imagine what this will do to the shampoo and toothpaste factories in South Korea? They'll have to boost production, hire more people, and these businesses will grow more profitable - turning into more high paying jobs for South Korean executives and managers. The list of possible benefits are endless.

There is this Korean movie that i watched last night called “the front line”. It’s about the Korean war and the people who were on the front line battling over a hill. Great movie and you can see that both sides are human. Humans with families, fears, dreams/hope, and compassion. Both sides are fighting each other and sadly, they don’t know why. They spent 3 years at war and nothing changed. Hundreds of thousands lives lost over nothing. Highly recommend the movie for those who are disinterested in reunification.

I once heard a story from a Korean war veteran who fought alongside South Korean forces when I was working as convenience store guy. He shared a small trench with 2 South Korean soldiers and 2 days after a skirmish one began to cry holding the US veteran's hand. He asked "What happened to our people? Why am I killing my friends, my neighbors?" Nearly a decade later I never forget this story, many things that are so horrible I can't imagine and this was one of them. Sad news is the US veteran kept in touch with the South Korean soldier, and the South Korean soldier had died in 2005. They would visit each other in their respective countries.

I really liked one of the pivotal point said by the girl in the middle. South is struggling for job hunts anyway, so rather then building factories overseas and creating jobs for overseas people why not build the infrastructure and industries in North Korea. It would be beneficial for both sides creating jobs and developing infrastructure at the same time. Plus, NK has abundance natural resources and by using the right technology from SK it could become the great country for exporting goods for developing nations. Leaders from both sides really need to sit down and think from the economic perspective. economy proceeds prosperity.

Great interview, Asian Boss, and extremely thought provoking! I was surprised to find out North Koreans aren’t as closed off as we’re given to believe. I had no idea they had access to so much information about what life is really like in both South Korea and China. Once people’s eyes are open, there’s no way to make them believe the lies you’ve been telling them. Brainwashing only works when there is no other competing messaging. You didn’t, however, address one of the greatest barriers to North/South Korean reunification: China. Right now, China sees Korean reunification as an existential threat. For as long as South Korea is politically, and economically closely aligned with The West, The United States in particular, China can not tolerate the idea of losing North Korea as its Communist Allie. Having a US backed Democracy at their border accessing The North’s resources and economic opportunities is a complete non-starter. I actually view China as being the ultimate barrier to Korean reunification. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this.

I don’t think China would care that much. Most of them fled to China before going to SK. If china want to intervene they probably won’t go through that easily. A nation of 52 million people to re-unify with 25 million people, with the living standard being so much different. Germany had about 60 million integrating 17 Million, and the living standard was not that drastically different. Yet we still have not bridged all the differences. That would be a very difficult task, and you'd be better off learning from the biggest German mistakes, and do it more gradually. But it will come. You cannot cut into pieces what belongs together.

- Linguistic differences, we still can not communicate completely free of misunderstandings - there is still a significant wealth gap in between the old west and east parts - the industrial efficiency of the east ranges still behind that of the west part - we do often still look more at the differences in between us, instead if focusing on our common strengths, which is usually what people of separate countries do. There was politician A who promised with glowing words a paradise and golden landscapes after the re-union. Politician B tried to warn us, and highlighted the critical points. He said what politician A was saying are empty promises. He said it would be a long and stony road, not a paradise, but we can do it. The answer to him was an assassination attempt. Not hard to guess whom the Eastern Germans elected, isn't it? The economical gap and the cultural gaps in between both Koreas is even wider.

For the most part the country looks like it's on track to being complete their might still be economic discrepancies but those just need to be figured out over more time.. My mom wast there when the wall was up and noted the stark differences but my grandparents just went back for vacation a few weeks ago and noted that it was much better.

my POV: - linguistic differences? thats not true. in every german state we have dialects, that has nothing to do with west and east germany. dialects came from the small kingdoms within germany - there is a wealth gap because west germany shut down all of the factories in the east. so a lot of ppl couldnt work anymore and right now the gap isnt even that big! a lot of west germans come to live in big cities in the east like berlin and dresden to me the gap in north and south korea doesnt look any bigger than germany once had. the korean history is about 5000 years old, so they still have a lot of in common! germany never had such a long history as an unified country like korea does. so I think it is even easier to unify north and south.

Thank you Asian Boss for putting together one of the most thought provoking and informative and honest videos I have ever seen in my entire life about Korea in general. Where did you find these ladies? My goodness these 3 ladies are probably one of the most humble, kind hearted, intelligent, honest, grateful, and beautiful people I have ever seen. They are literally the best representation of Korean people that I have ever heard from or witnessed, and I would dare say they are perhaps the best representation of HUMAN BEINGS in general by just the way they talk and act so naturally and are completely down to earth with nothing but kindness, gratitude, charm, and liveliness oozing from their hearts and soul. Like some of the other comments here, I totally agree that these ladies are by far much kinder and thoughtful than a majority of the South Korean people due to the fact that these ladies have gone thru hell to be in the more stable places they are today. That just shows that South Koreans have a long way to go before they can finally wakeup someday and change themselves for the better because most of the South Koreans that I have met (specifically the younger generation who grew up in Korea their whole lives) have been arrogant, ignorant, unkind, judgmental, and definitely ungrateful people. Kudos to Asian Boss and the amazing ladies for providing so much information and reflection in such a casual and relaxing short video - which is more than I have ever got from so many full documentary style videos I have seen in the past that didn't provide anywhere near as much insight as this simple video. There needs to be a way for ALL KOREANS EVERYWHERE to watch this video and perhaps that can start a fuse to finally light up everyone into taking real action to make the unification a reality. I’ve noticed that all the North Koreans in your videos are so calm and soft spoken, whereas South Koreans are more loud and energetic. I’m not Korean, but in many ways I can relate to the stresses and problems of South Koreans, but in a bad way. I think developed countries cause the youth to overthink and over-stress. It’s ridiculous that we have to live in societies like these, and as much as I want to slow down, I can’t because this is all I know.

I don't think so. North Koreans especially in Pyeongyang and nearby regions were very warlike people since medieval age. This regions had many foreign invasions, rebellions, discrimination by southern(capital) people. They were even discriminated in royal court so they just work in a commerce. If Korea reunite, these characteristics would revive again.

Thank you for sharing. Many South Koreans come on vacation to Hawaii and when I ask them about reunification they always say no. They have concerns about Communism. They also think most North Koreans are too brainwashed. As we see here, older generations in North Korea may still be more brainwashed, but the younger generations are learning that North Korea leaders have been lying to them all this time to maintain their power. I think many more people will defect from North Korea and if those people are preparing financially, they can support their families when reunification happens. Unfortunately Kim Jong-un doesn't seem to want to give up power. I think the only way for reunification is if the current government is overthrown from within, but I don't know if the people will have the courage to do it.

As a Chinese, we also want Korean unification because stability is also the key to Chinese economy too. Imagine a 350kmh high-speed railway can be built between Beijing-Pyongyang-Seoul, it just took us 2 hours to Pyongyang and 3 hours to Seoul by train. Lots of business opportunities can be created for both China and Korea. The idea of the buffer zone is already obsolete.

Honestly speaking reunification isn't possible. But what north korea can do is first of all throw the Kim Dynasty out of power. Don't underestimate the masses. Somebody needs to teach them about the French revolution. They can follow capitalism.. slowly but surely they'll be doing fine. I remember north korea was doing way better than the south after Korean war. But it might be because they were getting funds from USSR back then for supporting communism I'm not sure See they don't even know what capitalism is. Why couldn't you beat the imperial Japanese army back then? ....it's not easy to just fight with someone who has weapons and you know they can kill you. I think that if unification is to happen, since it is a fundamental issue, it cant get in small steps. Just if you have a major wound, you cant heal it in very small steps but need a major treatment or medicine. The unification in Germany was also one major event, a specific day and a decision, and the consequences were dealt after. It took time, but people are now better off than before in all terms. It is really truly that if you want to boost an economy, the best is to increase your economies of scale (i.e. working force).

Having experience from East Germany, I think a reunification is an extremely difficult process and there is no result that's gonna satisfy everyone. If North Korea bankrupts and gets annexed, everyone will try to move to the south, and the north will remain unpopulated and completely stuck in development. If North Korea remains an independent country, it will eventually become prey to China, which will try its best to prevent it from falling to South Korean influence.

Because it's currently so difficult for the youth living in South Korea, it's a bit unfair to view their opinions towards reunification as being merely cold and unfriendly (although I don't think Asian Boss did that in this video - this was, seperately, an awesome look into how North Korean defectors view this situation). That being said, if the issues that young people face in SK were adequately addressed (including, but not limited to: the intense competitiveness of the job market, the rigidity and demanding school system + entrance exams, the stigmas around mental health, the lack of work/life balance, etc.) then I truly believe that the South Korean people would be better equiped to consider reunification seriously. If you are currently fighting to make it in the world, then it's just that much harder to open your heart up to helping others. Adding the collective needs of an entire country to the backs of South Koreans at the present moment would be a difficult pill to swallow for many; after all, North Korea would need so much foundational work to reunify - from infrastructure to policy revisions, to health care and reintigrating North Koreans back into society; the cost is not insignificant. But I don't think that means that reuinification can't or will never happen. It just shouldn't be overnight, as these other problems need to be addressed first.

Dear Asian Boss, I appreciate you bringing this interesting interview, but before you make a bold claim that North Korea is sitting on trillions of dollars worth of natural resources I suggest you check your source very carefully. Apparently your source came from an article from Quartz and it seems their source came from another news agency, Bloomberg. I wasn't able read the whole article and verify since Bloomberg Businessweek articles are opened only to their paid subscribers, but Quartz article says that the estimate came from a South Korean state-owned mining company (no name given). That sounds VERY fishy to me. There's another popular source from The Economist saying there's 10 trillion dollars beneath NK, but that estimate came from a South Korean research institute (again, no name given) in 2012. That's 6 years ago and their method of research is also unknown. To me they all sound very speculative with no concrete back ups. If their justification for reunification is largely due to natural resources, that argument solely depends on highly speculative sources. Please attach your sources on your future videos.

The government is probably sitting on so much natural resources and they don't have the technology to get those resources, that they actually have the Chinese come and take their resources. That's the sad part.

The fact is that you could have a very well-known company making the estimates, but that doesn't automatically make the estimates more reliable. Prior to 911, there were estimates that there were some 200 billion barrels of crude oil in the Caspian Sea, but it turned out that the real amount is probably only about a fifth of that, and much of that is rather low quality and relatively expensive to extract. Thus the real reason for carrying out 911 and invading Afghanistan didn't materialise as projected by the likes of Unocal.

Actually the german reunification was pretty much a failure, despite the economic division and the time seperated between both german nations being by far smaller than it would be with Korea. The east german economy was pretty much taken over by west german investors and companies immediately, the economic divide is still quite large and social integration failed as well, both in winning over people to the west german economic system as well as west germanys evolution into an immigration, leaving a pretty bitter and disillusioned chunk in east germanys population which doesn't trusts into their democratic institutions and is easily swayed to the far-right due to increasing immigration. Most east german politicians to this day are originally from the west, so they lack their own political representation too. The Cleptocrats of the Kim regime are also a different beast to deal with than the SED leadership, who where largely hopeless ideologues. East Germany had a peaceful revolution happening before, which the SED Regime couldn't and wouldn't be able to stop through militaristic means. North Korea on the other hand is a by far more ruthless dictator ship than the DDR with a by far bigger military in relation to their civilian population. And again, germany was in a by far brighter situation back than than both koreas are right now.

I grew up in West Germany. 1989 I was 27 years old. Before the wall came down, I also thought I don't want a united Germany. Then everything went very fast. That made me angry. I couldn't imagine how that would work. I was afraid that my own prosperity would suffer. At work I had a colleague who had fled from GDR. Her profession was recognized without any problems. But her educational gaps were huge. She sat over her books every free minute and caught up on knowledge. And she was very suspicious. That shooked me. Many of the habits that the GDR regime had created persisted for a long time. It took 30 years for Germany to really grow together. For those 20 to 30 year olds who grew up without a division, a united Germany is a matter of course. The elderly, like me, have learned that people need time to adapt to a new system. These have been difficult years for all of us. Not everyone in the east has arrived in the west, and some in the west are still prejudiced. But I think that we Germans can be proud of what we have achieved in 30 years. Korea will do it too.

I think reunification in the Korean peninsula is a double whammy. On the one hand, it would be good for all koreans, to united in separated families that was torn apart during the Korean war and to know one Korean culture, but at the same time, there will be disagreements over the capital of the United Korea, south Korea may have to double or triple their GDP to fix the North Korean economy and the economy of South Korea. So basically, even though I support the united Korea, it's still need to be think through.

These young Ladies tell a tragic story. The N/S Korean divide is symptomatic of a world gone mad. The opinions presented by the three youngsters (no disrespect here. As a 71 year old American, I'm allowed to call them youngsters, in an affectionate fashion.) are pretty much spot on, IMHO. Especially here, at 14:07 . Follow her comments all the way through. Well Said! Very Well Said!. I've heard it said that "If there must be war, let it be in my time, that my children may know peace." It's teh same sentiment. Let's hope the situation in Korea can be resolved peacefully, sooner rather than later.

The media play a big part in our perceptions of North Korea. I learnt a lot from this, if only more people would be able to hear the stories of North Koreans they would understand that the people are only victims of the regime. The people didn't choose to be born there, it would be amazing if Korea was reunified to give those people a chance at a better life and for some to find their loved ones.

I think economic cooperation between the two Koreas can expand businesses to the north and create jobs. Maybe South Koreans in the manufacturing industry can benefit from employment in the North also. I think if reunification is not the answer then meet in the middle. They can hold off on reunification and be friendly with an easy border comparable to the United States and Canada. We once fought a war against one another, but share a similar culture. The Koreans can possibly act in similar fashion as once the same people but now friends like US and Canada. Easy said but will take a lot of effort between the two sides.

참 무거운 문제다.. 개인적으로 통일은 언제가는 되긴 되어야 한다고 생각하는데, 솔직히 이기적이게도 통일로서 우리가 감당해야 할 당장의 희생을 생각하면 꺼리게 됨.. 한반도의 반만년 역사에 비하면 갈라진 70여년은 정말 찰나의 순간인데, 그 당대를 살아가고 있는 지금의 나에게는 너무 신중해야 할 문제라는거ㅠㅠ 그리고 통일을 하면 당연히 경제적 이득이 엄청나다, 인구는 많고 봐야 경제에 좋다, 북한 자원이 엄청나게 쌓여있다 등등은 아직 좀 의심스러운 문제들인듯..^^;

I am an ESL teacher for Korean students for almost 14 years. I have asked this question to my South Korean students many times, except for very young ones. Most of my students (ages 10-20) do not like the reunification of the two Koreas.(regardless of their religions). First, they think that S. Korea is having a good economy now and reunification will cost them gazillions of money since they need to help them in everything. Second, they think that North Koreans will take their jobs. Also, they think that North Koreans are uneducated so they need to adjust for them. There are more reasons that they've told me but can't rememeber. However, the older the S. Koreans get, the more they want reunification (ages 21-senior citizen)....First, many of my students who had completed their compulsary military trainings said that it was frightening to be stationed at the DMZ. IF the two Koreans will be reunited, there's no need for these military trainings. Second, most of my middle aged to 65 years old students still have relatives in N.Korea. They told me that it was hard to celebrate Chuseok or Lunar New year knowing the poor conditions of their N. Korean families. Mr. KIM (he was 65 years old that tine) and I watched a documentary on KBS about Koreans meeting their families at the border. He cried so harf because he could remember his parents experienced that. Now, that the presidents of two koreas have decided to have peace talks, I really hope for a reunification. My comment is soooooo long...my apology!

The essential point that is missing in this dialogue is how they want to deal with the current North Korean dictatorship after all. So these interviewees want to reunify somehow, but they are still agreeing that Kim Jong Un will not give up nukes to keep his power or at least he will exchange his nukes with some kind of guarantee to keep his dictatorship. Then, what is the point? Do they want to still live in such tyranny yet only without international santions? What is it they really want? Current N. Korean dictatorship is founded on a false basis that should keep brainwashing their people to be separated from the reality. I cannot imagine Kim Jong Un letting his people face the actual truth unless he is willing to give up his rules, which I honestly think would not happen. What matters is the choice of the North Korean people themselves. It is either they keep living like this, or they change their nation themselves. It has been 70 years and there has been nothing (at least that's big enough to be acknowledged by the world). Then how should South Koreans believe that North Koreans will want or admit a democratic society with values like freedom and liberty? North Korean people would need to stand up for their own freedom against the tyranny if they really want freedom as South Koreans did. Freedom is not free after all.

Every revolt in human history has been standing against such power. If it is impossible to them, then it is impossible to any other people from any other country. Have they even tried? The N. Korean Army is N. Korean themselves. About half of N. Korean population is somehow related to N. Korean Army. If that army shoot down their own people? Then that system is so wrong and that has to be extinguished. Period. Hence, we cannot really trust anything that comes out from N. Korean mind until they actually prove that they really want freedom. It was the same case in S. Korea in recent 70 years of its history.

Sungjin Kim there is no revolt in history that's gone against a nuclear power. The only way it could probably happen is if KJU was assassinated and a power vacuum opened up. Of course NK's system is terrible, but how are they going to rebel when the first person that tells another they want to rebel gets sent to prison? If your life stayed the same, but if you criticized the government in any setting, you'd be sent to prison for treason, would you criticize the government or go back to living your comfortable life? Their bad life is all they think is possible and they don't want to make it even worse, since they've already suffered the worst with the famines just a few years ago

Your points actually resonate with mine. Yes, the NK system is terrible and works in a way that oppresses people. Bottom line is then that system has to be broken somehow. Then who do you think should break that system? Power from other countries such as KOR, CHN, RUS, JPN, USA? I would say that is a worse option for NK people themselves and that is the logic of current NK tyranny: keeping their country safe from other countries. It is the same vicious cycle all over again. The best choice they have is that NK people themselves do it. Finally, no revolt has gone against a nuclear power?- I don't see the point here. Are you saying that the KJU would nuke their own people on their land if they rise up?

@@llllllllllIlllllllIlllll No. They would do mass public executions and have everyone 12 and up watch. The way they are executed is gruesome and inhumane. Keep watching Asian Boss and you'll find out the details if you can handle it. They don't have access to weapons effective enough to penetrate the Pyongyang army. They don't have tanks, bombs, or guns. What else do they have, kitchen knives? Rocks? Sticks? Who else can help them? China? Russia? Hell no they will not! Why not South Koreans, the most logical ally for North Koreans? When the Kim regime is backed into a corner, they will strike harder and they don't care if it's their own people. They let their people starve to death just to build and maintain their nuclear arms. What does that tell you how an outcome of rebelling would do to the North Korean people as well? South Korea has to open its eyes and educate themselves on what goes on in North Korea. The resistance and the selfishness of South Korean youth will be the downfall of all Korea if they keep treating their North Korean brothers and sisters the way they have described by these women. It's up to you if you want a future for yourself and your children in Korea. You can't blame other countries for this.

As a Korean in the 30's, the more I think about it, reunification is a really hard problem to solve. First, the North Korean's dictatorship must collapse. South Korean's has no control on this. Second, the Chinese, Russians, Americans and Japanese has to agree with the reunification. Especially, the Chinese and Americans. After reunification, Korea will likely be a democratic country like what South Korea is. It is very obvious (and understandable) the Chinese won't like this as it will be closer to the Americans. It is hard to make agreements even between two countries, but now we have 6 countries (including SK, NK) involved. We will need a genius in political leadership to make this happen with a good timing that the first happens. Only after solving these, it comes to the economical and social problems in Korea. I agree with their point that there are much more gain for the whole nation in a long run and I want it so badly as they do. But, I totally understand those who think reunification is not necessary, because we have seen for tens of years that those two problems are nearly impossible to solve. Even if we spend a lot of money and try all political and social efforts to make reunification happen, it won't if those two problems are not solved, and it is exhausting to see no progress. But, we never know what happens in life and those two may be solved all of a sudden, and I think it is always better to be prepared. I do agree we need to be prepared by being better informed and educated, so that when it happens, we minimize the damage and make the best of it quicker.

If two Koreas are to reunite, Korea will be a country with over 70 million people and also possess nuclear power, it will right away turn Japan into a second-class country by military power. China and Korea's relationship will also be harmed. Korea will march towards a more independent position from the control of both China and the U.S. Reunification is never about emotion or nationalism, it is always a strategic decision. At the end of the day, China losses an ally, and the U.S. losses a threat. Big celebration for the western democratic world.

Even me, who is not a Korean, wanted both Koreas to be reunified. Who doesn't want peace anyway? But then, I don't think of a big picture of what will happen if that comes to a reality. Even us Filipinos also fight with one another (With the terrorist groups/lefties which is REALLY rampant) and I also hope and pray for the betterment of our country as well. North Koreans were also human, who should be treated well and respected. Give them the right they deserve that was stolen from them. Freedom.
