There are some contradictions because they are intentional. Let me explain. Jesus endured contradictions in His own body for our sake. Hebrews 12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. What kinds of contradictions did Jesus endure? 1. He was the glorious Son of God, but was born of lowly estate. 2. His was the most legitimate birth ever, but the Pharisees accused Him of being illegitimate (John 8:41). He didn't correct them BTW. He endured that. 3. He was the most worthy man to ever walk the Earth. He endured shame and abuse when He deserved praise and glory. 4. He is the resurrection and the life (John 11:25, 14:6). But He died and spent three days in the tomb. This was one of the most unnatural things ever. 5. He was sinless, born perfect. He was the new Adam. He was born to live forever, because there was no curse against Him. But He was also born to die. 6. He knew no sin, but became sin for us. He died on the cross so that we could live. 7. The holy, perfect, unblemished Son of God chose to fellowship with sinners. These things Jesus endured in His own flesh. They were contradictions. God is the God of order, reason, and logic. Contradictions are chaotic and irrational. For Jesus to endure contradictions is another contradiction. But all these contradictions were for our benefit. Jesus willingly accepted all this, for us. But instead of choosing God's contradictions, many people choose Man's contradictions. They want eternal life in Heaven but they don't want Jesus. This is a contradiction. Jesus is the resurrection and the life. He's the only way. How can you have the life but reject The Life? It makes no sense. Rejecting Jesus isn't logical, nor is it "scientific". It's rebellious. People reject God, so they reject God's plan of salvation, and God's one Savior. There is only one. His name is Jesus Christ. He is the Savior. We all need a Savior whether we realize it or not. And He's the only one. There is no other. We're all sinners. God is holy, holy, holy. Without the Savior you would wither before the holy God. You would be undone. You can't endure it. But when you accept Jesus as your Savior, you are made worthy to stand before the holy God. Not as a servant, but as a son. This is the only way to come before the Father God, Jehovah. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Before 1958, my parents read more than 150 Bible stories to me - about half from the Hebrew Bible and about half from the Gospels and the book of Acts, I later read most of those stories myself and I memorized more than 150 Bible passages - about half from the Hebrew Bible and about half from the Gospels and the book of Acts. In 1958, I started studying the Bible for myself using marginal references and concordances.* I also expanded my study of church history. Here are a few of the things I’ve learned after more than half a century of study: I still haven’t found a way to interpret every Bible passage literally without creating “contradictions”. Many people think they are interpreting the Bible literally but what they are really doing is arbitrarily deciding which passages to interpret literally and which to either ignore or interpret according to ostensibly Christian traditions. Not that there is necessarily anything wrong with traditions but several supposedly Christian traditions are derived, not from the Bible but from Grecio-Roman religious beliefs and practices. One of the reasons for this is decisions - first by clergy in Rome and later by Roman emperors - to offer a belief system strongly biased against anything they considered “Jewish”. For more than a thousand years, most of the clergy in Europe knew almost nothing about those parts of the biblical narrative that came before the birth of Jesus. Jesus was an observant Hebrew but the doctrine gained popularity that part of his mission was to replace the instructions that he, himself, had given humanity through the Hebrew prophets of antiquity. Many of the resulting beliefs and traditions are still widely considered Christian in the twenty-first century. The resulting belief system influenced the way people read the Bible in the sense that they redefined some of the words that are key to systematic theology. For example: And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. - Genesis 2:7 This Hebrew concept that the human soul exists only so long as the body is animated by the breath of life was replaced during the first few centuries after Jesus returned to heaven with the concept that a person is an eternal and eternally-conscious soul temporarily imprisoned in a mortal body. The earliest written expression of that concept (sometimes called “dualism”) by human philosophers seems to be the writings of Plato (428-348 B.C?) By the way, Plato’s concept was first introduced by the serpent in the garden of Eden as a way of contradicting the creator - Genesis 3 verse 4. This error led to another. Clergy found it profitable to encourage people to think of their dead relatives as existing in a kind of spiritual dimension after death. To promote that doctrine, they invented the doctrine that heaven was a place “above” the earth and hell was a place “under” the earth. None of the Hebrew words translated “hell” in the King James translation mean any such thing but that doctrine was the reason the clergy in Europe were so eager to punish people for the “heresy” that the earth is a planet that orbits the Sun. In 1543, Nicolaus Copernicus published De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestirum which challenged the teachings of the churchmen. He died shortly after its publication. Galilieo Galilei was born a couple of decades later. Galileo was found guilty of heresy for supporting Copernicus’ heliocentric theory. He was sentenced to house arrest, where he remained for the rest of his life and his writings on that subject were banned. - See Indiana University School of Medicine - Bioethics article, Historical Lessons on the Use and Abuse of Science and Scientists... *I didn’t get an unabridged concordance (Strong’s) until the 1980s. Most of what I was able to learn using that unabridged concordance is available online in the twenty-first century but if anyone is serious about Bible study and is electronically challenged, I strongly recommend getting and learning how to use an unabridged concordance. It was - and sometimes still is - very helpful to me.

I can't answer a lot of questions or explain the criticisms of the naysayers and unbelievers but I am ok with that. When God got me right, He impressed upon me not to argue with Him or argue about Him, He tells us His ways are beyond our understanding and I NOW KNOW that. Look at the questions He asked Job. . . . These people that criticize the Bible, there are probably a thousand things they use every day but cannot explain. Just about everyone has a cell phone. Can anyone really explain how ALL those features - camera, texting, email, calendar, GPS to name a FEW - work? A lot of people have a microwave, use it every day. Can they explain that? Oh sure, they can go google and copy and paste some BASIC information but none of them could create a working cellphone with ALL those features. It is like this. I absolutely trust the Bible period. People don't reject God because of science. True science points to God. They reject God out of rebellion. They start from the assumption there is no God, and then force their "facts" to support their assumption. They didn't look at a bunch of science and conclude God doesn't exist. They're starting with the conclusion and hand-waving whatever they need to so they can maintain a comfortable lie. Comfortable for now, that is. These lies will become unimaginably terrible for them on the day of judgment.

■ 1. Insofar as, to my knowledge, no one within at least either this century, or the 20th century, has ever claimed that... one or more "original manuscripts" are being held by any individual or entity (such as in a museum in Britain)... it cannot be proven, "based on the evidence" (which happens to be non-existent), that... any given version of... The Bible... represents... a translation (let alone a good translation) of... a 66-book compilation of... "the original texts". ■ 2. Given the fact that... based on copies of what are the "publicly revealed" extant manuscripts... it cannot be legitimately argued that... "The Bible, in toto, is the inerrant, and infallible, Word of God"... anyone desiring to obtain... the best version of... The "Holy" Bible... should recognize the fact that.. the pursuit of obtaining... the best version of... "the entire Word of God"... In consideration of the treatment of what constitute some of the most critical verses in terms of their theological implications... (such as can be found in, for example, "The Epistle of James" and "The First Epistle of John")... my best recommendation to you (or to anyone else for that matter) would be this: ● "The New King James Version". * NOTE: * I do NOT believe in... • unicorns. 🦄 For those who do believe in... • unicorns they should appreciate owning one or more copies of... ● "The King James Version" only.

Your looking in the Old Testament the Old Testament was a unique time you have to look at the Old Testament from a New Testament lens. Jesus paid the debt on the cross to pay for our sins. Therefore things changed from the Old Testament to the New Testament and we are in after math of the New Testament. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden the consequence is death and you see that as you read through the Bible. Death meaning separation from God and become enemies with God.

As I do, I looked up each and every item, in context, and compared it to what they were claiming. In the end, after summarizing why all 30 of their claims were inaccurate, I told them that all they had done was demonstrate their own lacking in facts, evidence, understanding and context. Just as I expected, they then switched to insulting me, the Bible and God. 1 Peter 3:15: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear."

In Luke 3 we see the genealogy of Mary. In verses 23-31 we see the fathers back to David. This went through David's son Nathan, and there were several Josephs in the list. It might have been a family name. There were 22 fathers. That's a 5 generation difference. Hebrew genealogy seldom mentions the mothers. In this case (Matt 1:6) there is a mention of Solomon's mother, but not by name. Mary was born into the House of David, but any women in that lineage were not mentioned. I'm assuming there were around 5 women. Also notice in Matt 1:16 the Bible has to specify "Joseph the husband of Mary". Joseph was a common name, as was Jesus, John, James, and Judas. There were plenty of Josephs running around. Mary's father or grandfather happened to be named Joseph. It was not the same Joseph as her husband.

Jesus wasn't "stunned". He wasn't in a coma. He wasn't faking. He was dead. Doornail dead. D-e-d-d-d-d-d dead. I'm part Italian. To say the Romans didn't know how to crucify someone is an insult to my ancestors. The Romans absolutely knew how to kill people. The Son of God, who was the resurrection and the life, was somehow dead and laying in a tomb. Unimaginable. Incalculable. Unfathomable. But on that third day, death could no longer hold Him. The grave was overwhelmed. How can you fit the ocean in a thimble? Nor can you fit Jesus in a tomb. He endured all this for our sake. The very personification of life was laying dead in a tomb. Why? Because we deserve to die. He paid the price that we deserve to pay for our sin. If Jesus Christ is not risen from the grave, our faith is worthless. But Christ IS risen from the grave! He did rise again, in fulfillment of the Scriptures. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father in Heaven. And He is returning soon for us, just as He promised. 1 Corinthians 15:14-20 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

Carbon-14 cannot be used to date anything older than 50,000, so they don't use it to date the age of the earth and there are also discrepancies between Carbon-14 and other dating methods. There are significant problems with the other dating methods used to date the earth. For example, using radiometric dating, diamonds have been tested to be 6 billion years old which contradicts the scientific consensus age of the earth at 4.5 billions of years old. You can argue logic and reason with them all day long and it won't work. They won't listen to reason. But then that's doing it in your flesh. The Bible calls preaching the Gospel "foolishness". God's foolishness is smarter than Man's logic and wisdom. When you preach the Gospel, it's no longer your words. God's words are going forth and accomplishing much. They don't return to Him void. The Gospel goes right to their hearts. The Holy Spirit empowers the words and convicts them of their sins. This is how you save people.

If that is not true, then everyone who has ever heard the Word of the Gospel is redeemed, as far as your belief system sounds to be the case. Judas wasn't convicted of sin before he took part in Christ's execution, and neither did Simon of Acts 8, for example. Refresh your doctrine by the parable of the Sower. I think there are a couple clear contradictions in the Passion and Resurrection accounts; for example, there is a contradiction between Luke and John concerning Mary Magdelene's first angelic encounter. In Luke 24, when Mary and the women first arrived at the tomb, angels appeared and told the women that Jesus had risen, but in John 20, Mary initially saw no angels and left fearing Jesus' body had been stolen. Now, AiG's Tim Chaffey claims there isn't a contradiction, saying in an article that _"it seems that (Mary) was not among the women who encountered the angels at the tomb"_ . However, Luke 24:9-10 names some of the women who initially encountered the angels at the tomb. Guess who is first on the list? That's right - Mary Magdalene. So if Luke is correct, Mary encountered angels _BEFORE_ Peter visited the tomb; if John is correct, Mary only encountered angels _AFTER_ Peter visited the tomb. Both accounts cannot be true at the same time and I don’t see how they can be harmonized without ruining the narrative. Now, is this contradiction earth shattering? No. Does it affect Christian doctrine? Not at all…except for the doctrine of inerrancy, which Ken Ham and AiG are clearly invested in protecting.

Use both John and Luke to get ALL the details. They don't contradict by one not telling us what another told us. @OnlyOneTruth623 That usage is useless at best and sows confusion. A ‘contradiction’ is when a proposition is inconsistent with another proposition. Discussion of ‘Bible contradictions’ addresses positions in the Bible that are inconsistent with other positions in the Bible (‘internal contradiction’). This is an important vein of analysis because it aims at establishing the consistency and coherence of a belief system and in so doing quickly dispense with those rendered incoherent by internal contradiction. I suppose one could argue that an incorrect statement ‘contradicts’ the truth and any and all statements ‘contradict’ anyone who disagrees with them, but this usage is a bit useless as a category as it brings nothing new to the ‘Bible Errors/Inaccuracies’ subject while muddling the concept of coherence analysis and (as a part of this muddling) gives the force of a judgement of internal incoherence to a mere external disagreement. A witness ‘full of contradictions’ ( which in normal usage suggests ‘internal’ contradictions) is automatically to be deemed untrustworthy; a witness who disagrees with other testimony (‘external contradiction’, if you will) is still viable pending determination of correspondence with truth. If we contrive to utilize this broad usage it blurs important distinctions and inflates the subject of ‘Bible contradictions’ to include any and all disagreements related to the Bible. If I read 1Sam 3:15 and say ‘nuh uh’, BOOM - you’ve got yourself another ‘Bible contradiction’.

The correct answer to the question "Isn't the Bible full of contradictions?" would be: "No, not _full."_ Of course there are contradictions. They are in all likelihood deliberate. A good example is that Jesus was born in Nazareth to fulfil the Old Testament prophecy "He shall be called a Nazarene." There is no such prophecy. The contradictions are to get you to look at the deeper meaning: the non-literal meaning. The Bible ia not a literal book.
@rockhopper01
@rockhopper01 Ай бұрын
You could be mistaken in your definition of “Nazarene.” You are assuming it’s referring to a person from a particular place, like an “American” from America. However, doing so disregards the fact that such words can have additional meanings. John 1:46 says that “nothing good comes from Nazareth,” indicating that the town was despised. There are numerous prophecies that indicated that the Messiah too would be lowly and despised, such as Psalm 22:6-7 and Isaiah 53:3. Therefore, the original readers of the gospels may have understood the term “Nazarene” to be a pejorative for a lowly or despised person, which fulfills the OT prophecies just fine. A modern example: within the church we often describe someone with discernment and who checks often with Scriptures as being a “Berean.” Doing so describes their spirit of discernment, not where they’re from (even if they really are from Berea, Kentucky! 😂)

It looks like it was added to doctrine long after jesus death and probably to attract the pagans of Rome who were already used to the idea. I also suspect that Paul very early on realized in his travels that virgin birth was pagan. Paul was a very strange and bitter man who might have been influenced by Mithraism. His obvious dislike of the heathens (and others) of Rome could have been enough to reject virgin birth. He never mentions it, or Mary. In fact he never even mentions the trinity. How did Luke not convince Paul of it? Also, David had at least 7 wives. Tracing anybody back to him would have been very difficult.
