@reddragonair3147
@reddragonair3147 10 ай бұрын
@@joshuakohlmann9731 Not really. Your starting point is what you base your argument on. If you change that, you aren't making the same argument. Can your starting point be wrong? Obviously. But that doesn't mean that you need to assume the opposing starting point because it somehow makes you more "open-minded" or "rational". That's folly, and you can't expect to make a robust argument if you're changing your terms during the debate. Unless I misread what you commented. If by "consider", you're meaning to acknowledge different starting points, then sure. But I don't think that's the relevant issue. And you are right about circular reasoning. But Ken Ham isn't suggesting that in the beginning God created because he already believes it. He's saying that when arguing for the God of the Bible, taking the Bible as your source can't be abandoned to appease people who reject the Bible. You don't learn about the God of the Bible by reading the Quran or by studying fossils. You learn about God by reading the Bible, which is about God.

Why do you need someone to teach you how to defend your faith? Why does belief in the "good book" need defending? Could it be when people ask questions about why God, in the Bible, orders you to kill witches, to put people to death for cursing their parents or lighting a fire on the sabbath day, to chop a woman's hand off for trying to protect her husband from an aggressor (and why does God add the words "show her no pity"?). Could it be when people ask questions about the slaughter of the first-born sons of Egypt (or why God "hardened Pharaoh's heart" when he was ready to capitulate)? Or about the 42 young boys ripped to pieces by two bears, for laughing at a man's bald head? Or about the treatment of the Midianite women and children taken prisonner?... It would take more than Ken Ham to justify a single one of those acts of sheer barbarism.

There are many instances where we see what happens in the Bible when God's people chose to use their own reasoning. Your reasoning is that disrespect and small infringements should be forgiven. And the punishment meted out did not fit the crime. But what you comparing it with the kings and Judges of Antiquity or the Kings and Judges of today? When were judges and Kings ever humane in Antiquity. They ruled with power and murdered anyone that disrespected them. Look into history and see how murder and war is described, was Alexander the great an Israelite or a pagan? How many more pagans were murderers, greedy for power and the rule of the land? Many people call themselves Christian while refusing to study the Bible and refusing to accept it as truth. I used to be like that, and I wasn't Christian. I hadn't accepted salvation yet, because I didn't truly believe it, I didn't even understand what it meant. I was a cherry picker and wanted to continue on my path, what felt comfortable, and chasing the religion of trusting people (in science, in entertainment even...) over God. I am grateful everyday to the Grace of GOD! 💞🙏🎉For his new mercies. I can't think of any advanced concept that isn't written about, but the difference is man's word or God's. This is why we can't explain Christianity without it. And many call themselves Christians but they chose to follow the word of man above the word of God. 😢 "There will be many calling out Lord,Lord..." Matthew 7:21-23

The flaw of having the Bible as your starting point is that you are simply believing and assuming that the Bible is true, and therefore, that’s your benchmark for determining truth. This is the entire argument that Answers in Genesis uses to explain how our universe works. The problem with this approach to what is true, is that the reasoning is circular. If you assume the truth of the Bible, you will reject all evidence that contradicts the Bible narrative. The better way to arrive at what is true, is to analyze how a proposition comports with reality. If the world around you accurately matches the Bible narrative, a case could be made for the truth of the Bible. I don’t happen to believe that the Bible accurately describes our origins, but I also didn’t base my conclusions on what the Bible says. I base my conclusions on evidence presented by people who have spent more time than I have, looking into how things work. The Bible, no matter how long it has been around and how much it has influenced modern man, does not qualify as a scientific paper.

It’s the righteousness that comes by faith in Christ, the imputed righteousness of God that comes by faith and not by works, and it’s the righteousness of God that we need to enter His Kingdom, which is why faIlen humans are unable to come to God by our own righteousness through works, because imperfect humans can’t achieve the perfect righteousness of God. We’re not going to be compared against the righteousness of other humans to enter God’s kingdom, but our works will be held against the righteousness of a Holy and sînless God, and we will all fall short, which is why we need to receive Christ and HIS righteousness by faith. There was an exchange at the cross for the born again believers in Christ, where our sìns were transferred to our Holy and righteous Creator and Savior, YHVH incarnate in Jesus Christ, and His righteousness was transferred to us by faith, Romans 4. The only way anyone is entering God’s kingdom is through Christ, because without His perfect righteousness imputed by faith, we faIlen humans have no righteousness God will accept. The purpose of the Law was not to make us righteous, but rather, it’s to show us our sìns, so we will understand that without receiving Christ as our righteousness through faith in His redemptive work at the cross, and His resurrection the 3rd day, we are hopelessly lost and separated from God. The Law was a schoolmaster to lead us to faith in Christ, and once faith has come, we have no further need for a schoolmaster, because the Holy Spirit indwells us, and He causes us to live for God, and to love righteousness, and to despise sìn. The Holy Spirit changes the desires of our heart, and He renews our mind, so that we are transformed from within, regenerated spiritually, and reconciled to our Heavenly Father through Christ.

Even secular scholars who are in the field of textual criticism allow most of the Epistles of the Apostle Paul in a debate. Which in his writings that they accept we have access to much of the rest of the Bible. So if someone tells you that you can't use the Bible in a debate it shows their ignorance of the topic. This should force them to admit at least some of the Bible in the debate. If not you can simply proclaim the Gospel and walk away in good faith. With your reason being they're not willing to accept evidence that has been clearly designated by their own piers for use in such debates. God's Word is strong enough that even when they limit your access to it, it will still come out on top. Hope that helps, God Bless...

In order to return to the authority of God's Word in engaging a secular world, we must first return to God's Word authority within the Churches. We have become experts in creating our own "human tradition" and to our peril we've left God's Word aside. Most Christians today will argue from the point of view of this theologian or that one while they are virtually ignorant of the World of God. "My people perishes out of lack of knowledge of God's Word". Let's devour God's Word individually, as families and inside our Churches!

@@RealHooksy What obligation? What logic? Every point must be cross examined, for and against the claim. The important thing is the weight of the evidence, and whether the evidence for and against is valid. Without examining all witnesses, the judgment is flawed and evaluation incomplete. And the evidence is examined in the light of correlation with other sources like history, archaeology, science, etc. It applies to ideas found in all historical documents, including religious ones. If it is logical, it will uphold what is for it, but more, takes down what is against it. To be scientific and rational, the claim not only must affirm what is supporting it but able to refute opposing views.

There are prophecies that were written hundreds of years before they came to pass, every single one has come to pass, except the last one, when Christ returns which will be soon as all the things prophesied about the end times are happening right now. Don't be fooled, don't hang on to man made false science, when there is a wealth of science already in the Bible. @@DianaMcFerran Why do I think it's ok? Because it works. We land men on the moon because of science. True, all men are fallible, but when it comes to science, we have convergence. Because many, many scientists are involved in the pursuit of science, we do learn more as time progresses, and errors tend to be flushed out. We know more about the universe today than at any other point in time in the past. That's just incontrovertible. And where do you get the idea of "man made false science"? Nothing could be further from the truth. When a scientist performs an experiment in China and gets a certain result, and it's replicated by a scientist in Canada, and another in India, that's good stuff. That's what you want. Why wouldn't you want that? What's false about it? A wealth of science in the bible? Where do you get such false ideas from? You're simply wrong to assert it, most of the bible is simply wrong (starting with the creation account, it didn't happen that way). And trust me, I've read the bible (catholic school from K-12). Cars can’t build themselves, so there must be a god. Sounds pretty convincing... OK, but which god? There’s hundreds to choose from. Brahma, perhaps, or Amaterasu, or Pacha Kamaq or... No, hang on... let’s just stick with European gods, because, funnily enough the absolute, unwavering truth seems to change at the borders between countries. So let’s see... Zeus, perhaps, or Lugh, or maybe Odin or... No, no, no. They’ve all gone out of fashion. The eternal truth seems to change with time, too. So who does that leave us with? The Bible tells us that there’s only one true God. So it must be true. No matter what the infallible holy books for other religions tell us. Genesis: the Earth was created before the Sun. Oh! I must have misunderstood that bit. There was light before the Sun, too. And day and night, funnily enough. And there’s water above the sky. And snakes can talk and now they have to eat dust. Except snakes don’t eat dust; which is just as well, because God used dust to make a chap called Adam... I’m beginning to think perhaps Ford’s car did make itself after all. But let’s give Exodus a try. God tortures the people of Egypt in order to put pressure on the Pharaoh. Sounds like a decent example to follow and worship: waters into blood, plagues of boils, frogs and locusts and then he slaughters all the fist-born boys. Good job he hardened Pharaoh’s heart first: he nearly surrendered before God had had all his fun. Anyway, he gives us some pretty good laws to abide by. Kill witches. Stone people to death for cursing their parents of for collecting firewood on the Sabbath day. Don’t beat your slaves too hard. There are nice stories in the Bible, too. Like when God sent two bears to maul 42 young boys to death because they laughed at a man’s bald head. Young folk can get away with anything these days. Then there’s the slaughter of the Canaanites... or of Midianite women and boys (but not the virgin girls, who were to be spared for the use of their captors)... Finally, I just think I should give Ford’s car a bit more thought. And when I’ve got time, I’ll ask any competent biologist to explain to me about eyes.
