Well said Paul. Copart is essentially a breaker yard, you buy scrap hope for the best and prepare for the worst, I don't know why people can't understand this

Absoloutley spot on Paul, Too many people are buying Copart cars for all the wrong reasons , I buy just high spec minis and now only Cat N , I do this as a HOBBY since I retired and it is great fun for an ex engineer . I also repair them PROPERLY and take no account of my time labour wise and if anything is beyond my capability I sell it on at break even if possible . Copart are fine if you know what you are taking a risk on and study the photos for what you can see and possibly what is deliberately not shown . Well done for a concise and straightforward appraisal.

Really interesting that talk Paul. One nit pick, either drop the background music or lower the volume. Prefer to hear your voice than the music, which if your hearing isn't what it used to be, can be distracting. Anyhow, always look forward to your videos. When is the next garage refurbishment video due. Anxious to see how that's progressing.

I bought my car from Copart. I feel like I got super lucky. £2000 after fees (including £360 delivery), 2012 Mazda 3, 55k miles, never failed an MOT, clearly very well looked after. Was a Cat S just for a dent in the rear quarter which I fixed for £500. It even had half a tank of fuel 😁 Had it a year now, never missed a beat.

Sorry Paul but I don't agree with you and I'm not really sure why you are defending copart hiding behind their ridiculous t's & c's. I've purchased probably close to 100 vehicles over the last few years and the company as a whole has noticeably gone downhill (hard) I've had cars turn up (after viewing them) with extra damage, bits missing. Cars listed with v5's, service history and extra keys all of which misteriously go missing with 0 help from customer service. I've had delivery drivers warn me not to buy specific high end vehicles as "the lads in the yard have ragged it about, as they'll never get a change to drive a lambo" I've even had drivers tell me that it's been confirmed that copart "bid up" their auctions. The icicng on the cake is you can't even view the vehicles now (which benefits them massively) yes you can have a £10 WhatsApp video call for 10 minutes..... At all of 2 locations. And then there's the ridiculous fees that seem to go up every month. I've just heard they've lost one of their biggest insurance contracts and with the increasing amount of private sale vehicles it makes sense.

I've made more profit by cancelling my Copart subscription. I found their fees to be too high, their MPLS North is incompetent idiots especially the snobby, lazy cashier female. They don't stand by their policy, their managers are idiots and liars, they whine and defend their policy about Run & Drive when it doesn't even run or roll 1 foot. They list the cars incorrectly, they were caught numerous times rigging stuff and scamming others. I'm done with this shit company and I hope other people learn from their bad business and quit also.

Perfect advice for people thinking that copart is a quick way to make money, buy cheap, build, sell. I totally agree with your point about other channels not talking about how they manage to sell cars that are CAT (whatever), most people I know steer clear of ex-damaged/salvage cars. I don't think copart are doing wrong, I think many of these people complaining did not read the small print, YOU BUY AS IS! I buy salvage electronics from auction houses and there is no come backs whatsoever allowed as its made clear you are buying as seen and not tested, thats why its cheaper! You take a gamble! It may be fixable or may end up in the trash. Excellent video Paul in explaining this topic. Now a subscriber!

I have been buying from Copart for over 15 years now (and Universal Salvage before that) and have had some absolute gems over the years, but I have also had my fair share of mis-described dogs. I mainly used to break up cat C & D's as the prices were reasonable enough to make it feasible and its less hassle than repairing & selling a whole vehicle with a "story". But when the mainland European buyers started buying the prices shot up! So I no longer buy near as many as I used to in years gone by. My (and others) biggest gripe with Copart is that they are economical with the truth and pictures. And lets face it, you are not going to drive all over the country to inspect cars before the auction (when you could), so they have you over a barrel with their T&C's when it falls short of their lacklustre description. I have also had turn up (or collected) cars that had parts missing, which were in the auction pics. Also its got worse since they allowed traders to put all their sh1t down there. If anyone is thinking of buying from them, proceed with caution.

Ive bought 2 cars from Copart and my grievance is their delivery. From buying a car it can take weeks for it to arrive at your delivery address. To arrange your own transportation isnt cheap since fuel prices almost doubled. As a rule i stick to category U used or N non structural.Cars are no longer cheap from Copart due to their expensive fees.

I`ve had various salvage cars, but have yet to use Copart. The problem is retail punters jumping in with both feet without an understanding of the ins & outs of the trade. I didn't read the T`s & C`s of Copart when I joined because I know very well that they will take virtually no responsibility for the issues you described. Its obvious for anyone who`s been in the trade for decades. Its buyer beware, always, you buy a pup semi-blind, then know you only have yourself to blame..

Hi Paul, you are 100% correct in what you say.A few things i have found thats changed Copart in my view are one the high bids put in from Eastern Europe and Ireland the price they pay for salvage is often more than what an un damaged car is worth in the UK. In the early days of Copart in the UK most of the cars they were insurance cars, these days half the car on auction are third party cars, cars that people have bought cannot fix so dump them in copart, and to be honest the trade are just as bad o this car is a heap of shit put it thru copart. As for some of the youtube salvage repair sites what can one say, some of the stunts they pull they should never be let near a damaged car. Thanks to youtube every man and his dog has become a body repairer. It is time that salvage repair became regulated and qualified repairers with the right equipment allowed to repair it.

The problem with Copart is they are not honest when they have damaged a car themselves, then sell it as the pictures. They also need to be more honest with their descriptions. For example the Seat you purchased. If that was described as keyed all the way around, everybody would alter their valuation on the car and i'm sure it would have made a lot less. Another example would be a car stated as running and driving, with a hole in the block! It would be quite easy to state this in their listing.

Interesting chat. I am signed up to copart although I have not purchased through them. Only signed up because we thought my partners damaged car would be sold by them but in the end we got it back from the insurer - so wasted fee! I am not a fan of trustpilot or carverticle. I have found that on a couple of occasions where I have submitted a thumbs down on trustpilot, the reviews have been rejected, so I never submit reviews any more. With carvertical, they correctly identified my partners car as damaged, they incorrectly showed it as Cat S when in fact it is a Cat N. So I prefer to use HPI

Personally i think you hit the nail on the head. People don’t realise the exact risk they are taking and have high expectations. Yes there are things which are hidden, masked, doctored ect and even right down to forklift damage and im not saying these are right or fair but that is all part of the risk people are taking when buying from copart

I ve just challenged copart over the photos of there cars being used on these hpi sites. I purchased a unrecorded car from them to find out 6 months later it turn up on these sites. Copart now copyright there photos now. My point being if a car is sold as unrecorded then the pictures should not end up on these sites. You pay alot more for these cars as unrecorded. Coparts lawyers responded to my concerns. So now these sites can be prosecuted. If your buying from copart do your checks. Make sure the car is from a insurance company and not a private seller.

I’m old enough to remember the days before Copart arrived in the Uk. I regularly bought from Universal salvage ,Hewitts auction and many other smaller independent salvage dealers. Coparts business model is to extract as much revenue from the purchaser as possible( registration fee, bid fee, load fee, commission etc etc) Having been in the industry for almost 40 years I can say without doubt Copart is the worst company that I have ever dealt with. I know you said your in no way affiliated but you have made quite a few videos for them that are on there Copart Uk channel. For what it’s worth I think your best content was back in the days when you just repaired salvage and didn’t get involved in all this other stuff.

The energy crisis has just changed everything - I've got 3 copart cars (unfinished) sitting at home, but have just got a lease EV for £280 / month for my daily - £40,000 miles/ 4 years. I can charge up for a few pence each night, but if i use petrol or derv., in an old banger, it costs a similar price each month - but have the peace of mind that i have a full warranty / breakdown etc. - of course an EV is useless if you dont have access to a driveway / longer distances - so will keep a long journey derv., for the foreseable future.

copart need to let buyers drive the vehicles out of the yard instead of charging people to load it onto a truck when it doesnt need loading onto a truck since its a running vehicle, so long as the buyer has tax mot and insurance why do copart want to rip people off? If the vehicle breaks down then so what people have their own breakdown cover for things like this.

When it comes to Terms and Conditions. In law T&Cs have to be fair and just. You can’t just put anything into them and then claim that it gives you a get out clause that covers every eventuality. I’ve heard reports where people have bought cars that run and drive and when delivered have no engine. I’ve regularly had cars that have caved in sills clearly done by the forklift and are not pictured. I’ve also had cars that they have omitted to show a certain angle as they know it shows damage. They do hide things and that is downright dishonest.

I don't like the way they move cars with fork lift trucks, causing unnecessary damage, I think it's a lack of respect for the property, and damage to underneath from this, to brake lines, exhaust, suspension, etc becomes unpredictable. So even if you did inspect it thoroughly they will often damage it subsequently moving it like this. So for me they rule themselves out from being someone I would do business with.

Buying from Copart is the same as buying a car from an auction. When I was trading cars I would often see private buyers at the auction complaining about a car they had bought which had a bad engine or gearbox or something expecting to get recourse from the auction house. People are stupid dumb not to understand what they are doing and as for those other KZbin channels they full well know what they are doing but they know a scandal will get them more eyeballs which means more ad revenue!
