Use a good quality synthetic motor oil like Valvoline Synpower, change it every 5k. I do and mine just passed 50,000 miles.

Thanks for posting. I use the same dealer as you and their service department is mostly useless. They never answer the phone, never return voicemails. I put in a warranty request 2-3 months ago on my leased Seltos SX with 8k on the clock and no one will give me an answer of any kind. First and definitely last time I buy a Kia.

A lot of the issues you're having could be the result of that particular dealership. Try a different Kia dealership if you have the option. Some dealerships keep their own inventory of loaner cars. As for the engine, clearly, something is wrong. What's strange is that this engine has been in production since 2017 in the Hyundai Elantra and there are no engine recalls on this engine in that car. So I suspect the issue relates to a manufacturing problem, not an engineering problem. My 2018 Elantra with the same engine has 25k miles and mechanically sounds like new. Thank you for your suggestions. I believe you are right about not being engineering. I believe this is for the 2020-2021 run in these engines. It states that the piston rings were not hear treated correctly. Bad part is Hyundai/KIA probably uses a 3rd party vendor for those but get left with the failure. Hopefully they make the vendors carry some steap liability insurance. This has to be costing them millions. I am going to try the dealer we purchased this from and see if we can get a game plan.

@@Jwskipper ah, bad piston rings explains it. Kia/Hyundai seem to need to do a better job with selecting part suppliers because this engine is also know for have faulty ignition coils. Not nearly as big of a deal, but still worth mentioning. I don't know if they eventually switched suppliers to remedy the issue or if the issue persists in the new vehicles with this engine. My car is no exception.

I have the 2021 KIA Seltos SX tGDI 1.6liter turbo, has 38k miles and is awesome thus far. Sorry she had problems with hers.

We have a 2021 with the 1.6L Turbo, AWD wife has 40K miles on it and absolutely loves it, I change the oil every 5000 miles use 5w-30 Synthetic, and basically have had no problems, drives great and gets around 35 MPG on the highway. Sorry for your issues, but I had to reply with our experience, which has been great.

Funny. I chose a Seltos 2022 over the Crosstrek. Car is great. Just check the oil every once in a while.

…as a former technician, I can say this with confidence, newer engines should not go through oil. I have owned numerous vehicles, different manufacturers, and not one ever went through oil. Let me reel that back, my old, 1968 Cadillac went through oil. About a quart every 1000 miles. That being said, it was a 51 year old car at the time of me owning it. The engine was replaced with a crate motor and I stopped having the oil loss issue. Kia is washing their hands of this issue and we, the customers, are paying for it.

“Just check the oil?” How bout replace the transmission after2k miles? Still good? Ok… how bout replace the engine as well a few K miles after that? And that was after absolutely twisting the dealership’s arm to convince them despite the recall staring them in the face that my engine was defective. This car is a pretty and well packaged TIN CAN. The suspension is absolute CRAP, cannot handle the mildest of imperfections without major complaint. This is NO Subaru. I cannot recommend this car.

Same thing is happening to my Seltos! I find out if they’ll replace my engine tomorrow. Ask for an oil consumption test, that’ll prove to them that your engine is defective. Good luck guys

All Kia and Hyundai engines burn oil. Just keep the oil changes at 5k and check the oil level sometimes

The recall isnt for all Seltos. Its for the 2.0 made between Nov. 2019 and Oct.2020. Sometimes, you just get bad luck and buy a lemon. It really sucks.

My 2021 seltos is up to 130,000 miles so far. I feel it will go another 130,000 miles before it begins having major problems. I like kia, thousands of kias on the road, still not clear what problem yours is having. My seltos is fine.

Sorry for your engine problem. Sadly, not just KIAs. Our Forester had similar issue but not at your low mileage. Also, the HONDA HRV has had transmission issues, luckily not mine. Good luck.

i just bought a kia saltos s 2022 in april od 2021 only drove it 1,200 miles so far. i dont hear anythng in engine so far runs good. i did get a paper from kia about the engine oil filter cap misprint of SAE engine oil viscosity number . just curious did you get the warenties i got with the new car doesnt that mean they have to replace the engine if found to be faulty?

After a pretty good battle with the dealer we did get a new engine. do keep all your service records oil changes etc..

All Kia and Hyundai after 2011 are trash. I got mine with 76k from my Kia dealership said it had a fresh oil change. I drove it a thousand miles changed the oil it was low like a quart left when I was changing it. They either didn't do an oil change or it was burning A LOT. Blew up a few thousand after. They should get you a rental shouldn't matter the brand enterprise mostly uses Nissan and GM they gave me a Nissan. The insurance on the rental was not covered $644 for the rental coverage. $350 for a tow. Two weeks out of work $2000 a new battery cause it died at the shop, another $250. They didn't charge my AC and left me with ABS and traction control lights. DONT TRUST KIA OR HYUNDAI

I experienced problems when driving the 2022 KIA Seltos in the middle of Jakarta traffic jams. The DTC temperature sensor rose quickly after 30 minutes in traffic and I put the shift in the "N" position as the car stopped. As you all know, in a traffic jam, no one really stops our vehicles, always in the middle of "stop and go", Can someone give an advice on how to resolve the problem? Because I am worry when jam more the sensor will alarm and the transmission will overheat.

Seems like your dealer isn’t all that great, I’m a Kia tech and there is a recall on this engine that I do a lot of. It just requires you to connect to the knock sensor and the tablet being ran at a certain rpm to detect if the rings are bad, I’ve yet to see a fail. Nothing better for those weak rod bearings than to be starved of oil 😂

It doesn't take a tablet to let you know with this one. Been serviced from the "dealer" since new. About a quart of oil every week guess that's normal since the rings should be fine huh?

Thanks for this video I actually had this issue today where the car has 13.000 m and it was low in oil and eventually cut off on me … dealer pretty much said that yeah it was low keep an eye on it and that was it pretty much…. So now I gotta keep an eye on the oil level on a new car

You should keep an eye on the oil level of any car. Most manuals say to check the oil every time you get gas.

@lea_jdmasf What outcome did you have with this engine. The dealer should do an oil consumption test for you. It is not normal for engines to use oil quickly. I do not care what others say. This is a known issue where the federal government required KIA to issue a recall for the engines.

Sounds like a standard gdi engine to me. Someone who buys a brand new car should know how to take care of it. Read the manual. Says to check the oil every time you get gas.

Not a GDI engine it’s an MPI engine and the piston rings not being heat treated was the issue. Oil was checked and had to be added on a regular basis on a brand new car. Good luck on your purchase hopefully everything is correct with yours.

😱 This is bad I have a Kia Venga 2 petrol engine 1.6 the engine works like a dream with 0 oil consumption. My next car will be a Honda petrol Toyota with a naturally aspirated engine no turbo for sure.
