Read your reddit on this...thanks for the info. Just grabbed an X4 to try novelty shots like sticking on top of an RC plane, but so far disappointed with the awful grain/clarity/everything else. Going back to Amazon once I get enough test shots to play with the software after the cam is gone!

I hate the camera. @Insta360 has blatantly lied and mislead people. JUST LIKE THEY HAVE ON ALL CAMERAS BEFORE THIS. They used scamfluencers to push their cameras. It's wild how they get away with it. Look at the QooCam Ultra - it won't be light enough for a plane I don't think but something to at least look at. :)

I commend you for throwing his info out there, it seems not many do their own research these days. I did my research, dropped 1.8k cnd on x4, go 3 and accessories. I’m no professional, my 10yr old and I have tons of fun playing w the cameras. I’m happy w my purchases but I understood what I was getting, I looked beyond the marketing and knew once the 360 footage was framed it was gonna be no where near 4k. What this cameras did was get my son interested in video editing again, he’s gotten his feet wet w LumaFusion on my iPad Pro in the past but playing w footage from the x4 has rly been a bonding experience. Anything I spend money on that my kid is excited about to do together is a win in my books. The way Insta360 marketed the X4 was wrong but also people are expecting Insta’s Pro 2 performance in the tiny X4. Hopefully 360 cams aren’t a fad and will get better in years to come, they’re still in the infancy stage.

Ps. the pro 2 isn't that great either for the money. Watch the footage out of that, zoom in a tiny bit and see the artifacting immediately. AND this thing does have it's place in the novelty market but not worth 500.00. In your case you can't put a price on bonding, but aside from that, I can say it's not worth 500.00 for me and many others who have seen the truth about the footage from this device.

This is interesting. My x4 looks nothing like this and I've been really happy about it! I had an x3 before and definitely notice the quality increase between the two. I also have an Osmo 3 and of course it's not even a competition in terms of quality. I don't even think they're comparable devices in terms of what you're getting. Really don't know what's going on here, but what you've got is horrendous! I'm seeing a lot of the other complaints too. I wonder if there's a major quality control issue?

As I have told everyone that tells me their footage is amazing. Show me, don't tell me. Give me some sample insv files in drop box. Toss me the link, not one person has been able to do it YET. I have yet to see any 360 footage on youtube either that proves me wrong. It's not a camera issue. I know 4 people with these, all returned them. Prior to returning them we tried put all 4 cameras on our cars and drove around to get identical footage. ALL 4, looked identical. It's the same garbage AI chip (5 nm or not), and the same garbage lens combo used on the X3 which wasn't good either. Remember even the 1RS that is the flagship looks like trash even with the bigger lenes etc... So no way, this was going to be "game changing" quality. IF you're viewing all of your footage on a tiny screen though, that maybe why you think it looks good? Try viewing your raw untouched footage out on a 2k/4k screen. Then zoom in a tiny bit. You will see the focus problems, artifacts, noise/grain, color banding etc. As a photographer, I have trained my eyes to see this but in this camera you could be half blind and notice it. Would love to see some of your sample footage though (really) if it's so much better? :)

Cool video. But can see issues immediately with it just on my 20 inch high res screen. Hell, can see it on my 15 inch 2k razer. The over smoothing around your hair, the artifacts around your shorts. This camera is good for a novelty not good for anything more than that. And it's not worth 500.00 USD. AT ALL

At first, I was quite skeptical about this camera, I did a lot of research, joining community groups and all that just to give me more in depth experience from the owners, before I buy this stuff and then I found this. I pretty sure this is not worth $500, glad I dont waste my money on this product. I rather choose the dji Osmo pocket 3 for the video quality.

Completely agree with this. It's just not ready for high quality video etc. I mean, if you want to see it on a small phone, I guess it would be fine. But, past that - how many times are you really going to use it? EVEN the SCAMfluencers. Look at how they hyped it up and after release you don't see any videos on their pages with the camera. I wonder why................

I wouldnt say it's better. Their "newer" studio has removed a lot of the bells and whistles and actually introduces even more compression and render issues per one of their own ambassadors Hugh Hou. So, they are not doing something right.

It looks like same marketing when Samsung and other phone companies started selling 32,48,64 then 108mp camera in budget phones.. on other hand apple wasn’t faking or competing with such numbers and delivering just premium camera quality in comparison to rivals. So in short 8k is marketing gimmick.

I'm more than happy for 360 cameras and their reframing capabilities. Practical, fun, and perfect. And using X4 is perfect for my simple goals. On the other hand, now I just checked some of my 8K videos on Insta360 Studio on my desktop. Yes, it looks perfect at first, but when you zoom in, it does not look like 8K (whatever it is). So, is it so easy to enter the US market with the wrong technical specifications by using just influencers? Effecting customers is one thing but if you want to supply a product into a market, you should certificate tech specs of your product at some authority???

It is very easy to enter the market here. Something I wish they did NOT allow. But alas this is why they have class action lawsuits. I hope that they pull together a class action lawsuit against @INsta360 for their misleading practices and their lies.

Interesting video, which 360 camera would you recommend in this case? There not that many good options that are affordable and have a proper quality with a simple workflow. I am looking for a 360 camera to inspect government assets (walking trails, park, buildings), any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

If you're good with awful quality than any of the 360 products imo. It's not good for much, you can't zoom in to anything, lots of artifacts and grain. But if what you do doesnt require detail than sure. Otherwise the pocket 1/2/3 from DJI or a gopro.

@@TappedOutTravel Yeah that's why I have a 3D laser camera Scanner (Galois M2 by Realsee 16K). I suppose that the only advantage of a 360 camera like the X4 is the fast work flow where you can simply walk while recording. Faster but lower quality. I imagine that it's just not possible yet to fit in such a small device enough technology to have high quality 360 images. Topaz video AI to the rescue.

You're welcome. Keep some things in mind 1. View on something bigger than an iphone or ipad. View on an actual screen, also zoom in and look at the artifacts / color banding / noise and grain. 2. Once you see the compression artifacts etc.. upload your own samples and check it out. You will see similar results. IF you see an AMAZING change, please let me know lol. I want to see others footage, but have yet to see any that is better.

I have no doubt there are quality control issues as the first X4 I received tried catching on fire whilst charging. There are reports of batteries dying totally with the dual fast charger. Any real none promotional footage I've seen doesn't look my better than my One RS. It's going to be interesting to see where the misleading promotions of this product go, it's certainly damaging the brand.

I dont know that they can do much more other than paying more scamfluencers and teling them not to disclose their sponsorships. Oh, and continue to HEAVILY LIE about their footage and HEAVILY EDIT / post process footage and only post for cell phones vs on youtube in 16:9 format. They have mislead the consumers. And consumers are coming out about it. It MIGHT be good enough for a cell phone but it isn't for me and it SUCKS everywhere else. They dont even have good excuses anymore 1. it's 500 what do you expect? (I expect a good camera and not one that is trash) This camera is worth about 150/200 tops. I should have known it's not 8K (Literally every part of their marketing is game changing 8K, Crystal clear 8K) and since I DO POST 360 videos not reframed garbage, it should be 8K. Surpriseeeeeeeeeeeee, it sucks.

The video was processed in 422hq on premiere to remove most of the compression. The 8k footage you saw shared was from instas own app captured in 4k which should have been plenty. The issues you see with the camera is out of camera AK footage low sharpening. Which are the highest settings you can use on this camera. And as you can see the artifacts/color banding/noise is just simply bad.

I'm glad I decided to go with the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 instead of the X4. It may not be waterproof or have 360 video, but it sure does offer better picture quality and videos and especially at night. I bought a GoPro 12 last December and was pretty bad. The camera overheated and shut down after 15-20 minutes of recording (in winter!) and the picture quality was terrible once there wasn't enough light.

Yup. That was shot with the pocket 3 as well. And agree, I want the 360 coverage however, howeverrrrr... I want the quality. Something none of the insta360's imo do well. On a phone, maybe. On anything bigger? Hell no.

I think the X3 is a nice little camera for what it is. Just fun to play around. Can not punch in at all, photo or videos. I did not understand the Hype about the newer Insta 360cameras, AI chip to increase quality? If the data wasn't there what can that chip do. Great video.

AI chip is just that. AI - it can't perform miracles on a bad lens and sensor combo. People here AI and think "omg, it can't cure bad quality components". It's a novelty and not a good one at that and when you're own marketing team sais GAME CHANGING 8K and crystal clear footage, it better have that. It did not so @Insta360 was deceitful! Lied to everyone.. and needs to be held accountable. And I appreciate it.

I agree. Same thing from the X3. It just seems to be more of a money grab in my opinion. Not enough to justify an update. Just because you say the sensor is good doesn’t mean it is and we can see that by the footage, not just for me, but from every single person out there, all you have to do is look at the video closely and you could see how bad it is

On the channel 360 Guy i saw a comparison between X3 and X4 and the footage of the X3 looked horrible dull. But if you look an X3 Video from this guy from the release of the X3 it is looking so much better. I commendet about my finding and he responded nearly immediatly that these images were unedited straight out the camera. I asked him about the hidden sponsorship from Insta... no response. Someone said, that the X4 is using exactly the same Sensors as the X3 but i cannot find the source anymore :( I have my X3 for a while and im happy with it. in my opinion 8k is only marketing. Its also a bit bad that Insta is highlighting 5.7k or 8k for the whole sphere but not letting you know that the output is exactly less than 2k.

It is the same half inch sensor size which is trash. Then they use this garbage 5nm chip that does nothing but give you some AI (whooooooopie). No benefits to the footage as you can see. It's just artifact filled footage.. with bad color science and noise!

I bought an X4 for motorcycle riding. One of the batteries swelled up. If you stop riding and take a break for 5 minutes it WILL overheat and shut off. I didnt buy this camera to record at 5.7k. No where on the website before purchasing the camera doers it say Record in stunning 8k but if you do it inn the sun or standing still it WILL overheat and shut off and you will lose footage... I have some nice 8k footage I havent uploaded yet. I did do a x3 vs x4 comparison tho. I run then through Topaz AI after editing them. It does a great job.

I have run through Topaz also. It just blurs more of the artifacts to give the illusion of cleaning up. But I use the spherical video more than anything and this does nothing for that. It's complete trash. Not crystal clear as they stated. Just lots of grain and artifacts. No one has proven me wrong yet lol

I have the old RS with 4k boost mod and the 360 mod is garbage especially edited in the app. But the 4k booster mod is good. I also have the RS one 1inch 6k but have never edited it other than on iPad is that footage false as well. Because I wasn't impressed with the footage for that on my iPad to be honest. I had a feeling it's was being scammed by the elite because my footage never looks like theirs lol

Several reasons. 1. Post processing and a lot of it. 2. Reframed vs 360 video. 3. People not opening up 360 samples on a screen worth a damn, instead opening it up on a tiny phone AND they dont zoom in or move around 360 video. The footage here in this is directly from the insta360 app. Ive even provided the RAW footage to people and they see it and say it's the same as they get on theirs. I should not (No one should) have to post process the hell out of footage. I do not reframe video either, that isn't my thing. Most of the videos (even the non sponsored ones) are using reframed on instagram on a tiny ass screen. I could do the same thing and it would give the perception of an amazing video. lol Again, I watch on quality monitors not garbage as I am a photographer. So, color representation, detail, accurate depictions of what I am filming are important.

However, having said that, it sure looks a whole lot better than the 360 footage from the X3. With reframing and tweaking the upload resolution, I think this would be impressive. I could be wrong. Maybe I misunderstand. Just trying to figure it out.

@@TappedOutTravel Update to my last comment: I just checked out your other videos. For straight 360 footage this is a remarkable improvement from the X3. It has to be watched in the highest resolution available but that goes for anything really. Do a side-by-side comparison with the X3 and you’ll see. I’m actually impressed. Now, once it’s reframed and had the resolution adjusted, it’ll look great.
