Lol dude what do you think you're smelling when you smell something? Chemical vapors, aerosolized liquid, micro particulate, you can't smell anything if there is no compound in the air, it's what gives you the scent. Pine trees have terpines that are volatile and largely are responsible for the pine smell, its just the terpine vapor hitting your nose's sensors (I forget wtf they're called). It'd be cool if that air bottle aerated the water with microbubbles or something, that's what I thought it was going to do. But yea, just a science PSA for you there buddy.

The steel flexible hose he was talking about is used for gas installations in homes and businesses. It's a spiral steel "hose" with a rubber coating on the outside, but it's normally yellow and also doesn't have preinstalled end connections. The hose he cut in the video just looked like a regular garden hose and not a flexline gas pipe.

The verbiage got cleaned up for the final production copy, but this was fun to post because it was just one take.....pretty rare in this line of work with that sort of setup. So I can assure everyone of two things, 1....I know drain gutters are not steel....like I said....rehearsal, and 2....Like it or not, that was done in 1 solid take.....no cuts....same knife. I think a good general rule of thumb is "do not buy the viral TikTok anything." My dad is a master German cutlery maker, 3rd generation. A real test for sharpness isn't a freaking pineapple. It would be cutting something with tons of give like a tomato, very fine, without mushing it. Another good test is holding a paper up. If the knife cuts through paper without ANY resistance or tearing whatever, you have yourself a good knife. Guys, if you're in the market for an amazing knife, go with Wüsthof. Chef Ramsay uses them, not some random bozos on the internet. They've been around for hundreds of years.

@@Sinyao wow that's really nice of them!! I can understand that people don't want to spend $60-$100 for a single knife, but as I get older I'm realizing that if you put down more money up front for something of high quality, that thing is going to last you a lifetime if you treat it well. Instead of dishing out $20-$30 every year, over the course of 5 years or less you would have spent that money anyway, possibly more. Take care of that set and you won't ever have to buy another knife for as long as you live!

the way "I" look at knives, is that they are going to lose their edge over time and use...what I want to know is "How do you sharpen that blade?" with the serrations and all, do you flat grind one side only? If that had NOT been a serrated edge, can you imagine the destruction of that edge? It wouldn't have cut anything after the brutal test. Thankfully none of us are going to be cutting hose, rope or hacking a downspout in the kitchen during 'chefly duties'...so it would probably remain fairly sharp. On the other hand, no 'real' chef would be buying this brand of knife anyway.

Gotta also remember that a full steel knife is going to be a lot more durable to bending and tearing than titanium. Titanium is harder than steel, but also more brittle and prone to snapping under too much pressure rather than simply bending. Probably what played a big part in a piece landing in your leg. Titanium is just a marketing thing. It does on average keep an edge longer with a quality coating, but honestly, with just a couple swipes on a sharpening rod and a few on a honing steel rod you can keep a full steel knife's edge for years and years, wouldn't even miss titanium coatings.

Every couple of years a knife goes "viral" and I mean going back to when I was a kid in the 80's (infomercials). Buy yourself a 10-dollar 2-in-1 whetstone and save yourself 50 bucks by just sharpening any junk knife you already have. I'm not even close to "good" at sharpening a knife and I've had guests use my kitchen knives and gush over how high quality the knife must be only for me to tell them it is one of those 50 dollars for a set of 6 wallmart deals that I sharpen once a year. I'm sure a 500-dollar forged in the heart of mt. fukkisaka and quenched in the blood of virgin knives is better but really my junk knife can cut a ripe tomato just fine and I don't cry if my wife uses it to pry open a can or something silly.

Unless there is some diamond knife (which will break), no knife will make it after the rock. In the rock you might find very hard crystals on the mohs scale like quartz, emerald, topaz etc. There is no chance the knife can survive that unless you fake it, like having salt instead of rock or plastic or somethink like that. Otherwise we'd have problems sharpening the knives.

There was a similar, although cheaper build quality version of this knife roughly 10 years ago. I fell for the in store demonstration and quickly realized the "sharpness" and "durability" came from the serrations. Buy a mid level ($80-$120 will get you very far) hardened steel, 8 inch santoku or french chef's knife, treat it well and you will have an "indestructible" knife. Also look up the difference between German forged and Japanese forged steel because those are the most common at that price point.
@SkervyBoi
@SkervyBoi 2 жыл бұрын
Alternatively, and I can't stress this enough after working 10 years in the food service industry, buy a really cheap knife ($10-$20) and it will last for about 1-2 years if you keep it honed. Just keep it dry and sharpened and discard it for a new one. "High end" knives are a long term/luxury investment.
@olgierd2001
@olgierd2001 2 жыл бұрын
my biggest problem with that kind of busting of these" indestructuble" knifes is that they advertise them with extreme situations and everyone just busts them by replicating the ads but ´never test them in a normal kitchen enviroment. im pretty sure that some of these (but not many ) could be even good if you test them in a normal kitchen (i know they arent made of good steel etc. and wont hold the edge for super long ).
@Merilly
@Merilly 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not even doubting that for average kitchen use, they'll be fine. The problem I have is that they sell these blades at a price that may be below one of those fancy professional kitchen blades while still promising superiority to the average kitchen knives in the average household. I've used really cheap knives my entire life basically and they are also fine for the average kitchen environment. Sure, they won't be the first pick for hobby chefs and much less professionals but I still get most things done and they are also sharp. So I deem it fair to test these advertised knives in extreme situations when they are marketed as blades that withstand all that like it's nothing and are acted out to do so more than once without ever growing dull (which isn't true). Because they obviously can't withstand it for long. They are basically selling these as budget professional knives and should therefore be examined through the means they are advertised by. If these would be sold as normal kitchen knives, they couldn't warrant the upcharge. So people are basically paying more for what they were told was basically outstanding and like no other knife. If they were sold like the average kitchen tool, then no one would look into it this extremely as they are just supposed to do what they are advertised to accomplish. I.e. cutting stuff, preferably without breaking the blade or immediately making it dull. But that's a barely legal scam what they are doing. Legal because it can do all that was shown but people aren't told what's actually behind that and that they can't do it more than once without it dulling. It doesn't matter that it could uphold itself in normal kitchen uses. What matters is that they are advertising something in a manner that makes it look superior through linguistic and visual manipulation because few people will try it that drastically at home in fear of breaking it. So they will see that it works like a normal knife would in their kitchen, not knowing that they pretty much paid too much. So you see, it's not that they could function decently but that they promise you an enhanced experience at a pretty hefty price when something cheaper can also do it. But obviously, they won't say that or they can't use those colorful ads anymore to sell an expensive product.

I won this exact brand a few years back, some kind of promotion or whatnot. It worked wonderfully for a week, did it's job for like a year. Never cut weird stuff but after a year it was dull! Actually, 170 is about what you’ll find for a new/out of the package razor blade for a utility knife, while a new/ootp double sided razor blade for shaving are right around 100; the thing about being “razor blade sharp” is that it will lose its edge faster. Being a CIA graduate and currently certified to CCC by the ACF, what I use is a 3 sided stone system..what’s funny is watching the prep cooks who’ll stand there “steeling” their knives for 3-4 minutes PER SIDE and thinking that they’re sharpening their cuchillos.

The secret to buying a good knife is looking for a company that openly tells you what a knife is made of and how it is made instead of trying to sell you a knife with all these illusions. When a company makes a good product, it does not need illusions to sell it. Even the cheapest pot steel can be made sharp enough to do the tests they show. What is really important is how long it stays sharp with use, how corrosion-resistant it is, and how tough it is. Steel is all about balancing these three aspects to suit your needs and a knife does not need to be expensive to be good.
