You're probably aware of one of the basic chess opening principles that you've to castle your king as early as possible. While it is correct, generally speaking, there are 6 most common situations/positions where you should NOT castle. In fact, castling in such positions is a huge blunder or a bad mistake.
Even one of the best chess players in the world, Magnus Carlsen, blundered a checkmating trick by castling. From this video lesson, you'll learn the strategic and tactical reasons behind why you should not castle in these positions.

6:05 The puzzle solution is very simple: Rh1+ forcing the capturing of the king and then, you follow it up with Qh4+ and white can't stop Qh2# in the next move.

For the puzzle, the move should be sacrificing THE ROOOOOK! by playing Rh1+, white must play Kxh1 which is the only legal move, then black plays Qh4+ (Qh5+ and Qh6+ don't work since the queen will be taken by the e2 bishop and e3 queen respectively) to force the king back to g1, and finally Qh2 will be checkmate because the queen is defended by the pawn and the white king has nowhere to run

My general rule for castling: 1. Don't do it if you haven't moved your pawn before there. 2. Don't long castle I swear, i checked many highest level analyses, for some reason those positions LOSE a LOT. Just push the edge pawn forward and do short castles mainly. If you do that, it's a pocket defense that will last long.
@NickZ-zu8jf

I would add two situations. First is if you have momentum on attacks your opponent side and you dont want to castle to let your opponent gain a tempo back. Second is like what you said in 5 but add that to keep the rooks on the side to support a pawn push of your own.

Thank you ! On situation 1 however, the white is actually playing italian game, the move of the white Queen seems brillant, and I was wondering how I could never see that before... answer is : this never happens !!! because wtf the black knight is doing on e7 ??? He's always on f6 protecting the h7 ! and then the black castle is more thant appropriate.

2:40 I literally had that situation a few days ago where I deliberately took the bishop just to explore what would happen, after the knight going to g5 I didn't go back to g8 but instead I went to Kg6, the opponent was probably shocked (it was online so I didn't see him), he tried to play some moves but couldn't find the way to checkmate me (I think I have even sacrificed my knight), but after a few more moves the opponent resigned... so it is possible to win this situation, especially if you're playing against a low rated player 🙂 BTW answer to the puzzle is Rh1
