those pawn pushes to create a mating net are also super subtle moves that are hard for your opponent to see the point of. A good example was Ding's pawn push in game 6 of the WC against Nepo to set up the queen sac mate. David Howell, Anish and Tania all couldn't work it out at first.

Alot of players sub 2200 don't know how to handle pawn pressure. They freak out even if there's no attack

King: "I have 2 of you idiots. Why can't I get behind any of you?" 'Idiot' (pawn): "Sire, there's a fellow soldier in our base that I can't attack!" King: "That's just ridiculous. Last time you told me one of them phased through one of you when he marched forward, and now this."

I remember getting netted in a game. When I complimented my opponent on the number of pieces he had brought to bear, he responded, "yes, I believe in inviting ALL my pieces to the party."

Your content is amazing. I am SLOWLY getting better only because I am an impatient player and am still bad at calculating, but everything I have seen from you is definitely roiling around in my head. I am trying to think deeper and analyze better and am starting to see things I didn't see before. All from your excellent and descriptive teaching. Hope your health is improving!

Nice game! A funny coincidence I actually just finished a game as this popped up where I had checkmate with a mating net using a pawn, a knight, a bishop, a rook, and the queen. One of every piece. I’m not usually great at seeing them in blitz games so I was quite proud of that one. Also love the thumbnail!

Nice finish!! 😁😁 Only way I see Rg8# stoppable is pushing 'Harry', the h-pawn. Felites could sac the rook but that's a small delay, it's not gonna stunt the threat.

Great video! Very useful information. More like this, please!! Great to see how you saw the idea and set it up! Maybe you could do a series on setting up tactics like this - that would be very useful! I definitely need help on seeing the tactics a few moves ahead!

Is there any way to use those “mate in 1” or “mate in 2” puzzles to learn how to do this? I’m brand new to chess (only just reached my 150th match the other day) and this trick would make the games so much easier to understand. I’m getting better at openings and can often claim the whole centre in the beginning. But many times after that either my position just collapses or all my pieces get gridlocked so I can’t do anything. Consequently I’m still trying to find the 200 elo mark. Learning how to do this would really help a lot! Thanks! (PS - your “Beginners” playlist totally rocks! I really learned a lot from it.)
