Hey Matt! I was at a local golf shop yesterday and was properly fitted for a new set of irons and a driver. While I was there swinging clubs and getting all of my numbers marked down, I’ve kept noticing this nasty slice and I was doing all of the things you had shown in this video. Spent a lot of today at the range working on the techniques you were talking about and for the first time I was consistently hitting a straight ball and landing in the fairways. I’ve tried everything to try and battle the slice but seeing you with the tennis racket and actually seeing the mechanics behind what you were talking about made a ton of sense! Thank you for these great videos and little tricks to not only add yards but add more confidence and consistency to my game!

Been struggling with a slice since I started playing and this has cured it! Absolutely ripped them on the range this morning and can’t wait to get out on a course and put it into practice. Can’t thank you enough for this well presented technique. Enjoy all your videos and wish you luck breaking #28. Great first attempt, I’m sure you’ve got it 👍🏻

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been trying to find the video that explained my slice. And a lot of them were good pointers, better grip, better stance, and other thoughts, but none of them jumped out at me saying, I bet I do that wrong. This one though, yup this is guaranteed to be my major problem, because that rolling motion of the wrists is natural in a baseball swing, and I have always known that my baseball background was killing my golf swing, like the amount of sway I have had in my golf back swing is directly related to baseball. But, this right here almost is guaranteed to be the main offender causing my slice.

This seems like it's just as relevant to your irons. Good vid Matt! I had been hitting the ball very well for some time, but at some point last year I started slicing again out of nowhere and couldn't figure out why. I suspect this is exactly what I was doing (more with my irons). And even when I'm not slicing I have had poor directional control, probably because I'm struggling with sometimes not getting my wrists back straight sometimes, and snapping them too far through other times. I've been trying to correct with grip and swing plane, but never even thought about my facing on takeaway.

MATT, I have a question for you. First of all I love the videos and the information. Myself like a lot of older golfers now have some replacement parts in their body. I have bilateral knee replacements, as well as a left shoulder replacement. So the question is with my knees I find myself swaying more than turning. Do you have any type of tip to help make a better swing or maybe you don’t have to turn as much which I think would be better than swaying. Thanks

Sir, I looked at a LOT of no slice video and I learned a lot about driving mechanics. But when you said in your video that we possibly go totally left if we do this, my brain exploded. This is exactly what happened every time that I did not slice it at all. I went very straight but totally on the left side. Like, totally, not even in the field. And when I hit it straight in the middle, I slice sooo much. I really think that you put the finger on my problem. I had an very old Spalding driver with steel shaft. And I hit it kinda ok. So I gifted myself with a brand new Callaway Rogue driver and I started to slice as hell. The problem is the shaft is less stiff, the shaft is longer, the lie is different, everything is different. So I always told to myself that my problem were because of the driver and not about my swing. But it is. I change my swing because of the driver, but now I see that I was wrong. I will ask for my girlfriend to make a video of my swing and I will definitely look into that part of my swing, the rotation of my wrist/hand. Thanks, I will plant a feather for you.

‘Square to square’ swing concept really addresses this the wrist issue. The address position/orientation of hands(wrist/arms stays constant until after impact. The club face stays as close perpendicular as possible to the swing path.

Another really great tip video Fryer! 😊👍🏻 Honestly, if the next generation of English golf stars aren’t mostly from the Manchester area, I will be completely shocked. There’s just so much excellent coaching from you, Finch, Rick Shiels, Carter before he left, Fletch, and it goes on and on. Golfers in that area are incredibly fortunate. Most of the golf coaches I’ve met near me just flat out suck 😂

That would close the club face and make it impossible to get the club on plane without a lot of wrist roll (the one thing you want to avoid).

i don't normally watch a lessons video, but this one is dead on--i have to watch this rolling move as it is absolutely a bad, bad move. active hands that roll like this can soo easily creep into the swing, but if you know this you can use it to your advantage, with practice, protect against the duck hook, or pull hook. a light grip pressure can help with this rolling move, as well as shortening the backswing...nice lesson!

First chance to try this and it definitely works. Keeping the club face pointing at the ball for longer is now my one swing thought on the backswing. Do you have one to stop me occasionally pulling the ball.? It only happens when I go for more distance.

Try hitting some drives with the 1/2 swing then bring the club back further over time. You will be shocked how far a center club face hit goes with almost no effort!

The rolling takeaway is caused by taking the club away with left hand. If you take the club away with the right hand no roll. It's just that simple.

Great drill for initial takeaway, would of been even better if you followed on up to the back swing especially with the racket because it gives a better vision of where the club face should be pointing as it goes back. Also was that swing based on out to in path to play a fade or more in to out . Thanks 😀

I will be doing a backswing one so don’t worry 😉 the fix is based on try to get neutral to keep the face and path close together
@allgoodthings74775 жыл бұрын
Brilliant . Actually makes sense that because 1 part is practice that sequence then 2nd part what follows. Clever boy hahah. I’ll nip over to Trafford sometime soon for a lesson think that will be easiest then you can see exactly what’s going on. Cheers

Yes , I think using too much hands gives you a false sense of shoulder turn , you feel like you are doing a full turn but in essence you are performing very little! No hands makes you turn your shoulders more and activate the bigger muscles!
