yeah, if you want to know who wins when two guys just right click each other to death in a duel, then you have solid science for it....lol. The only real takeaway is understanding the diminishing returns, and distributing stats accordingly.

The main video point is true. However, there's additional factors that muddy the water and make it not as black and white as it's shown in the video. IE I think the additional time needed to the kill the CON stacked player is undervalued when you take into consideration proper manipulation of the few traits/skills/health pots that are max health scaled. Meaning simply the level of healing received is increased but also longer time for them to come off cooldown and be re-used. This gets further exacerbated when we start going sword/shield to "double dip" if you will when combining the extra skill/shield/block tankyness with the CON stacking. This even further stacks that time allowed for "resets". So yes, in a vacuum space what you're saying is true, I just think it doesn't fully take into consideration other factors and may mislead many people that interpret the video in that black and white way. Most interactions after all are not a stand there and trade blows scenario and the pause in between damage for "actual" fights will benefit the CON stacked player that gears correctly "much" more than the other player. This is to say what you're saying holds true for a burst fight but doesn't necessarily hold true when the CON player aims for a war of attrition. Enjoyed the video though.

I completely agree with the notion that there are most certainly many other factors that can influence this, though I also don't think I presented this as a black and white scenario? My main advice was mixing thats instead of just hard focusing on one. One thing I see alot of theorycrafters forget are "variables" if I make a hatchet wielding sword and board CON stacked tank I can harrass, buff, debuff and CC while having high survivability, will I win 1v1's? No. Will I help my team win XvX fights? ABSOLUTELY. I'm a huge fan of playing a jack of all trades and master of none, in so many other PvP MMO's I've had allies say to me "Why is it so fucking easy to kill people when I run with you?" because of the Variables.

That is true but also you didn’t take into account the damage scaling as well, there are many abilities like the siphon type ones that heal based on your damage which will balance them both our ability wise most likely unless someone wants to do a complete in depth research that would most likely take over 50 hours

2 weeks after start and ive been using this build, GA+Hatchet, heavy armor, 200 STR 100 CON and works well to me. I tried it in pvp and it works well, but I only tested it in duels.

Online tools have max attribute points at 475 with perfect gear (plus the initial 5 in each attribute). So the max you could have is a 243/242 distribution.

good video but i'm pretty sure the main reason people were saying con stacking was best was just for the PVP scaling and how hp is the most effective stat for pvp scaling like lvl 20 vs lvl 40

If ever there was a content creator who deserves a like and subscribe it's you my dude. Thank you for this. I have been looking at going S/S + Hatchet and had been theorycrafting a 200Str/50dex build for my endgame hopefully being able to also reach 200 con once my gear is good enough. I'm happy to see that this seems like something close to perfect Stat optimization for the best combo of damage and survivability. Since the Open Beta is only 3 days long there was no way I would be able to get to 60 test this.

For those who countinue to wish tanking despite this I recommend looking into paladin it gives a lot of damage mitigation and the ability to self heal meaning while ypu are blocking attacks you are actively regaining any lost health

Wow, thank you so much! Question/comment. Hp and effective hp are not always the same. I have not played beta and i dont know alot about the stats in nw. But my point is this. If there are things such as resists, armor, or other kinds of dmg reduction - then the value of hp will be relative those stats. If you have 10k hp with 50% dmg reduction thats better than having 12k hp with no dmg reduction. Much like how dmg scaling might be affected by other stats, so also may hp... Im so much looking forward to your dual stats weap video, and even more - the intel/focus gem coefficient video. Thank you.

I found during both betas and even my bit of progression to level 18 thus far (PvP MSQ only in the launch play through) constitution was the best stat for me upto about 100 before having to choose STR. I have also been fairly successful against duos and trios against players upto 7 levels above. Though my launch playthrough I haven't hit 100 CON yet.

I think the best way to go about it, would be to go 50/50 like for example, if I have 200 Int, I should have 200 con. You’ll get the best of both worlds. You’ll dish out great dps, but can still take hits. Then consider this with having medium armor on instead of light, you then have a solid build. Great damage, tanky, nothing better than that tbh. Love the video!🖤

Thank you! :) Tbf if they're ONLY planning to PvE tank, then it could still be worth it depending on if they care about dealing damage at all, since aggro is so easy to hold with taunt gem. But if they want to PvP tank as well, some damage definitely goes a long way!

@@JROCThaGreat Not significantly from what I've found so far. Since the armor mitigation is % based, it actually doesn't make a difference in this scenario (hence why I ran the test with 20% and 50% mitigation). You'll get a bit more health from the con perk, but putting more points into con won't increase that.

@@DukeSloth Exactly this^ damage mitigation would increase your survival by a percentage, it actually isn't any more significant for someone invested in more health or damage, both people get the same percentage increase in survivability. Now DukeSloth in a previous video mentioned a potential bug, giving you more damage mitigation when you reached 150 in constitution, this could specifically mean the 150 constitution benchmark provides more efficiency than it is intended to.

For those of you who are wondering, this does technically translate into PvE. But it doesn't necessarily mean someone should not put everything into constitution if they're strictly PvE. It still may be beneficial for you to have the most amount of health possible, because it gives you a greater buffer between being alive and being dead/down. And the greater the buffer, the more likely your healer will be able to heal you before you die. And people may prefer the safety net of one person (the tank), or possibly two (possibly a second tank or an off-tank), having full constitution than their tank(s) having less health but more damage (which possibly won't be overly impactful considering you likely have multiple damage-dealers who have a vast majority, if not all, of their attribute points into damage-benefitting attributes.

​@@FainaruFurasshu Food is % based yes, but it doesn't make a difference when both players use it. Neither would berserk if both players use it btw as it's % based. But usually only the con users were running hatchet. Health pots only partially scale with % and partially flat, so they're effectively stronger with lower con. This is somewhat offset by the low tier Con perk that increase pots, but users mixing stats will have access to that anyways since it only needs 50 points. Number-wise, full con would lose to a mixed stat build in a 1v1 scenario ever time if the players are equally skilled.

@@FainaruFurasshu The reason full CON was so good in closed beta is that there were a number of bugs making passive damage mitigation from CON apply all the time when it was supposed to be conditional.

I did 100 points to health and the equipment all to strenght. lvl 38 im able to have 150str and 100 const. Arounds 6k hp... Heavy armor main weapon is great axe, hammer, sword and shield and others, Heavy attacks deal 850-2500 with great axe and light attacks around 300-600. Depends on critics but most hit often on targets below 50% health and it regerates health by 20% of damage dealth with great axe and 35% with the hammer. This set i run allows me to run other weapons unrealated to str by keeping another set of armor. From lvl 38-50 the next points i will plan on will be dex. Just to get that 5% Critical change "50 points". This set is also really helpful for going solo as you dont take mad damage and are able to deal decent damage and you can heal.

I imagine you'll address this in the next video, but just wanted to point out that various sources of healing will make this considerably less straight forward. If you take the hypothetical of 2 mirrored characters trading perfectly timed hits, where one is damage focused and the other CON focused, but introduce mirrored healing partners that are healing flat amounts, if the CON character can't out damage the healing then no amount of max HP will allow them to win (ignoring mana limitations, anyways.) Then there's other sources like life leech favoring damage builds or % of total HP healing massively favoring CON. Looking forward to the gem video.

This is a really good point, and we discussed circumstances well prior to the video. I expect part of the reason this might not have been mentioned is that there was a lot of information to discuss relevant to the findings. It may make its way into the next video (though I'm not sure, I'll have to find out same as you). Indeed with mirror flat healing, more damage gains more mileage than more health. Interestingly, with percent healing more health gains equal mileage to more damage.

You're absolutely right regarding healing! I actually didn't address that part all too much, but will try and add an extra note in post. As for % heals, as long as both users have the same % heal, it actually doesn't make a difference! While the resulting flat value is higher for the con user, they also deals less damage. So it would take them equally longer to take the STR user down despite the STR user getting a lower flat return from % heal!

@@DukeSloth That's good to know, I'm admittedly terrible with math and it just seemed intuitive that more health means % total heals are better in this scenario. I'm glad pure CON doesn't seem all it was cracked up to be, I much prefer the idea of faster paced combat. Edit: Having thought about it more it makes perfect sense, it's essentially just increasing the duration of the fight with no other factors, silly mistake on my part :p

Also it is easier to get a low health player to full health and below 30-50 which allows for multiple extra damage procs and damage reductions procs to fire. Basically more con is only good for soloing pve.

It would be interesting to see what happens when you take into account item perks. There are several perks that scale health up by percentages which compounds with the closed beta con scale.

The HP value I had actually factors in one of the amulets with that effect! But there aren't many items that provide those types of effect, so you won't see a significant difference through that most of the time. Especially since there are also massive extra damage effects on items

Amazon making tanks unplayable anyways. > taunts need a gem and the aggro system scuffed af, you'll find yourself loosing aggro in expeditions etc. a lot. (applies especially to swarms of mobs... to be fair it works on bosses, unless you have a group member with insane dps) > wearing heavy gear is basically a deathsentence in open world pvp since you can't even get close to all the harry potters dodge rolling around and throwing CC from range > even in war, where big frontline tanks are actually somewhat useful (about 3-5 per 50), you get boned because you will always be on the bottom of the leaderboard = less rewards > pve questing is hard af. yes you're not dying but you deal little to no damage, which often results in you not being able to clear out mobs fast enough and getting screwed over by fast respawn timers.

What level are you? I'm 33 tank, I can group up at least 3 npc at my level and cleave them down with no worry. I can't speak to pvp but I feel very strong as a tank. I run 2 handed axe or hammer whilst questing and sword and board for dungeons or if I need to be more tank in world quest. Gota spam the food sometimes for sure and kite, pop a health potion or two in dire needs. Anywho, cheers.

my questions is still how you manage weapons with different main stats, for example my original plan was using hammer/ice gauntlet but going full str cause i just wanted the gauntlet for the CC, but HOW MUCH im losing for going like this instead of just going FULL INT with a int gem in the hammer? is it worth it? is there any other weapon with alot of cc that i can use on pair with the hammer if im not going main tank?

Without actual data, I think it's best to go int and use a gem. I say this because of the nature of the ice gauntlet. It's not just cc. Ice storm has insane aoe potential and imo it's just not worth using the gauntlet if you're not going to lean into it with int. If you primarily want to focus on hammer, I'd consider using a weapon that uses strength. I'd go great axe or hatchet to focus on higher dps to pair with your hammer cc. Alternatively, there's always lifestaff / hammer, but you'd have to gem again. Just my thoughts without the math

@@Dead_Goat no its not it's a different kind. Cc that prevents dodges are hands down the best cc's in the game. Hammer has more cc. But nothing is better than grav well and ice shower. They're what get you kills. Wrecking ball, and shockwave are great and should be used to help wombo, but gwell is what gets the kills.

This video might be outdated but Life Staff/War Hammer heals on both weapons and stop enemy from actually do damage to them. I as a heavy armored-healer, i can easily tank 10-20 players for atleast 10 minute without my potions if i play it right. if i get outplayed i can die as soon as the group collapse which sometimes does happen once every a thousand attempts.

Remember this game and his balance is around wars and teamplay battles, so a pure full CON its better in endgame pvp scenarios. Great axe and hatchet its a pure dps or brawler build so yes its going to being a waste of stats raising your constition... but if you play like me hammer and SnS 2 con 1 str build works better, and the node of 300 con its very very atractive for territory wars and teamfight pvp.. I liked your video very informative and pleacent to hear...

Would you say while leveling CON may be a better stat? As most people will just have random pieces of gear that don't always synergize well making you effectively even tankier. Then running heavy armor would make you almost impossible to kill pre 60. Especially since pots scale with % hp. For example I run spear/musket right now but I may switch to spear/hatchet if I go full CON. The hatchet healing from berserk will be insane as well. The amount of rend, damage bonus, and stamina you get from spear can help counteract some the negatives of heavy armor/CON. Maybe dump 50 or so into a primary stat like DEX or just use gear that has CON/DEX stats on it for max effectiveness. Edit: SnS/ Hatchet would be nasty as well since you can be even tankier with sword and both weapons scale STR/DEX. But with SnS I see damage maybe being a potential issue PVE wise since I feel its already a lower damage weapon. Hatchet would be a must for something like this I think.

I think the point you're completely missing here is the impact of Heavy Armor and Healing items. As a full INT Rapier(T5 Gem)/Ice Gauntlet it is entirely impossible for me to kill a heavy armor full constitution target. There just isn't enough damage. You can land a Riposte into backstab Heavy into Double fleche, and it will do 1/4th of a dude's HP. With a couple HP Regen items on and the passive food buff the constitution guy can just hold block for 10 seconds to get back to full. Or drink a potion and laugh at you. Conversely, a full constitution+Heavy guy using Sword+Hammer can absolutely oneshot you with an unavoidable combo of Shield Bash> 3x Hammer abilities with a Flatten effect. Afaik there is absolutely no counterplay to this. If that shield bash connects, you are dead, or very close.

If this was a test of str vs con you should have been naked, and set both values as low as possible and the str to con ratios are off 33 vs 66 and 256 to 223. You need to eliminate all those variables before you can make the baseline for damage output . Then you add gear and factor in for the buffs that gear + con give you for survivability

Video goes right out the window with %health healing. For example berserker or two handed axe hits. Full constitution with heavy armour, where you're healing for 800 a hit absolutely demolishes a full str build.

ye but would not demolish a 250/250 build, as stated. i have used a pure con 18k hp build vs a 250str/250con roughly, and was defeated as you hit like a wet noodle. the enemy will out dps your defenses while still remaining tanky

Con is so popular because at 600GS youll have around 500 points, 300 con + 200 str for example is the best split, because the con passives are more valuable, and con scales with % healing, and consumeables are completely ignored here. You can also offset a lot of damage with jewerly , gems and perks, which is also not mentioned. The thing about attributes is on paper it might be one way or another but the games intertwined systems undermine this type of information. Con also being a flat value and not a % increase of damage on weapons is also a big deal, the value of con goes up because the damage of weapons is rather limited and doesnt increase on the same curve. Making strength seem for example like its better on paper but put it against the scaling of con overall against a % damage increase on say a 500 damage Gaxe and Con is still more valuable. Theres a lot more too this. But understanding that attributes scaling isnt really relevant against the value of perks, armor, % damage, flat increases, consumables, and other stacking armor buffs that can as it stood in beta make you almost unkillable, regardless of scaling. Which is also something important to mention, that scaling at certain milestones is rather broken. Consumables are are also massively important which can essentially cap your second attribute almost anyway. Meaning a 300/300 split may be nearly possible . I still think con has more value simply due to how it interacts in pvp, with healing and regen.

Would pure con be viable for PVE dungeons? I dont go pure con as a tank and tend to split str and con 50/50. Been working fine as a dungeon tank but maybe since i let my team to damage, should i just full send health?

Thank you! Well, it depends. If your only goal is tanking and you have no issue holding aggro, no. But some dungeons will probably eventually require you to kill things in a certain amount of time (the arenas already do, they're just too easy), so having some damage on the tank may become more important than a smaller fraction of extra health at high levels. Also, if you have any lifesteal effects with a flat value, some extra damage would go a long way! It would also be annoying to have to respecc every time you want to do anything PvP-related (though you could get around that by using STR armor for it).

The numbers provided give some perspective on how much of an increase you get from constitution vs strength (or any other offensive attribute). Notably, they don't tell the whole story, especially when a group is involved. If you are the main focus of enemies, your health increase is likely going to be used more than your allies' health increases. Moreover if you have a team of allies who have focused more into damage already, you might not really need that much of a damage increase. Your 10 points into constitution might be a 6.5 increase in damage for you, but it might look more like a .5% increase in damage when you account for all the damage your team deals. I'd say it doesn't really apply that much for a PvE tank, and actually even PvP group battles there is a lot more dynamically going into it than the small advantages gained by building a more balanced build. If you bait the enemies by being in a more vulnerable position than your allies, you can very 'draw aggro' of your enemies, in which case your health will be more significant than your allies' health, and your damage might be less significant, considering how much focus you need to have on staying alive. In a moba game it is easy to know who the tank and who not to focus by a combination of what character they are playing and how they are building. You can typically just look at what each character is building and have a general idea of what it they can do for their team. That information isn't so available in new world, to know if you are a tank worth focusing they have to hit you (or see someone hit you), so they might blindly focus you before knowing you are hard to kill, allowing your allies to put in more work.

Problem is this isn’t really a 1v1 game. It’s team focused. Even though there isn’t “classes”, there IS. In order to successfully win wars and invasions you must have a balanced team of con stacked with DMG and healers to support.

Constitution stacking only makes sense with sword and shield. With the damage bonuses you get by slowing the enemy and weakening with sword and shield makes a big difference. I was dueling people higher level than me and I was able to do enough damage to beat them while I was too tanky for them to do enough damage. Need to take into consideration the added resistances

Realistically though, a tank will have the benefit of healing being stronger on them. So they'll have much more effective health than their inferior chugging counterparts, which has to be taken into account. Maybe offset a bit by crits and crit damage, but I'm not sure it even begins to make up for it. With higher defence too, each bit of healing is going to be worth even more. Sooo the amount of hits it will take to kill a tank that isn't just standing still is going to be way higher than someone who isn't a tank, even if both parties trade blow for blow.

Con is best in group PvP where you take damage from multiple source's, the smaller health pool will get you bursted . Damage is best in small skirmish , 1v1s..

then there is the food buff that heals 1% per 2 sec. and 1.2% if you have 50 points in constitution. 1% on 8276 is about 83 life per 2 sec. 1,2% of 13428 is 161 life per 2 sec if it would take 40 ish swings. not counting misses. that would be a really long fight. heavily favoring the constitution player the longer the fight is. with hatchet i only asume the life regen is % based meaning stronger heals on constitution builds.

If both have the food buff, it would take a LONG time for that to make a significant difference, since it's % based. Remember, the health user also deals way less damage, so the % increase in health affects them more. Until 0.2% HP per tick outscale the additional hits, the fight should be long over :D That's also furthered by the fact that you basically have to out of your way to avoid it to not have 50 con at level 60 with PvP gear, at which point there's again no difference. At the end of the day, the strongest combination is mixing both stats anyways and easily beats both full STR or full CON! Yes, hatchet is % based heal too! But if both players use it, it again makes no difference.

@@DukeSloth true, i forgot the fact that taking con lowers dmg output, this also in a way makes the strength chars healing more effective, indirectly. ;D if you use the two hand axe you can gain life based on the dmg dealt, which would favor points in dmg over constitution. where 1 hand axe might favor con a bit more then two hand axe. all really depends on playstyle and weapon choices. but a great breakdown.

Osiris261 actually does have a good point here, while a percent heal would inherently give the same percent increase in survivability regardless of whether you are a damage dealer or tank, it still does become more effective on a tank. Suppose 2 people built damage, and could kill each other in 10 seconds. Then a 30% heal would increase the time it takes for them to kill each other by 3 seconds. Now wuppose 1 person built damage and the other built constitution, if scaling were equal they would still take the same amount of time to kill each other, but the time it takes to kill each other would increase, lets say it now takes 20 seconds to kill each other, the 30% heal would increase the kill time by 6 seconds. This extended time it takes to kill each other filling the gap between one heal and the next better, potentially you can get more heals over the course the fight. This actually isn't going to give either side the advantage if they both have the percent heal though, they both get the same increased time it takes to be killed, but it is going to make those percent heals better for both people. Now this difference does become significantly more noticeable when only one side gets this percent heal, such as when one person is running the hatchet and the other person isn't. By having a higher constitution, he guarantees a higher a chance to get to the next heal before dying, potentially allowing him to outheal his opponent and eventually win from it.

So if you respec your stats and put points into constitution lets say the level the con increase drops to 24 will all the points you respec give you only 24 points of con or will it automatically calculate points you had before that level and give you 25 per point?

Question for the sake of asking and gaining knowledge on weapon scaling. If you socket an elemental gem, does the initial strength, dex or other 50 pt (15% melee light attack / 10% crit chance) still apply to all damage applied by the weapon? Does that 50 first stat scaling apply at all if say focus or int is now the dominant stat the weapon scales off of? Or does it still scale the % physical portion of the weapon, while focus/int now only scale the elemental gem converted part of the damage? A lot of little nuance esoteric questions that wiki's or current knowledge of the game doesn't seem to explain well.

Gems do not currently work at all for Focus any way. I am testing the INT ones now. I know that hte arboreal is 100% scaling on the primary stat period.

Nice vid! I don't think all hope is lost for tanky boys, though I wouldn't ever go Con exclusive. With food, pots, some abilities and earrings that regen based on HP percent instead of flat, I'd wager that you'd get quite a bit of ticks by the time the other guy smacks you 40 times. Then you consider food buffs (health regen) , health potion, different weapons, attribute break points, playstyle and everything doesn't matter anymore. It's good to know points per value. But I don't think anyone is effected by this.

Potions worked off % in beta. So they scaled very well. Unsure if they changed it to be a fixed value by now.

Indeed, a lot changes with other aspects of the game, and frankly there isn't a huge difference between focusing offensive or defensive stats so long as at least 100 points are invested in both sides. I think more than saying 'there is a clear advantage for x' this clears up that there might not be such a big advantage, a lot of people complained about constitution builds during the beta; though considering the next point I will make, the difference might be huge for a certain group of players (which the video mentions but doesn't go deeply into). There is another thing to consider about this video though, it focuses on the effectiveness of the attributes when at level 60, which is drastically different for lower levels. At level 1, the attribute scaling in the range of 6 - 100 for constitution is about double that of the attribute scaling of for damage, but at level 60, the attribute scaling scaling for health is only about 2/3 of the attribute scaling for damage in that range. Also constitution falls off a LOT slower than damage when it comes to scaling, so would probably be significant in middle levels as well, when you have over 100 attributes to invest, and still have a lot better health scaling than damage scaling. To reiterate this point, constitutitution goes 2:1 scaling vs damage at level 1 to 2:3 scaling vs damage at level 60, I think this is quite significant. At medium-low levels I think constitution investment has a clear advantage over damage investment.

Neither would berserk if both players use it btw as it's % based. But usually only the con users were running hatchet. Health pots only partially scale with % and partially flat, so they're effectively stronger with lower con. This is somewhat offset by the low tier Con perk that increase pots, but users mixing stats will have access to that anyways since it only needs 50 points. Number-wise, full con and full str would both lose to a mixed stat build in a 1v1 scenario ever time if the players are equally skilled."

Did you have an elemental weapon in your weapon for the con version. If con is your main stat wouldn’t the weapon dmg be based off con? If not did you test that at some point? If I missed that I apologize. Edit: watching your gem video now 8)

Well. But in the end. Bumping 300 con 200 dmg statt is way to go. Early level untill level 15-20, all in consti is way to go. Since you get 4500 hp vs 1800hp. And the dmg increase is not noticeable with max str.

I'm glad that construction doesn't make anyone unkillable and makes them do less damage due to less points in anything else, still I sill run 300 Con and 200 Str, until they've either added greatsword or maces in, or if I want to unga bunga

Potions scale off based on max health as they restore fixed % i.e 20-40-60.. blah blah u get the gist so constituion plays a vastly higher role when it comes to consuming potions in pvp. It also would allow you to use lower (cheaper) ranks of potions to get high benefit from

You can run const and focus with shielf and life staff. Impossible to die, a lot of utlity and in a 1v1 u either win or the other one gives up and leave. And a lot of utlity as i said, people will want to play with u , amd easier to find groups

The build everybody hates to play against. If I see life staff and heavy armor I just book it, no point in wasting time. You can sit your five year old in front of the pc and as long as he finds the life staff abilities it is impossible to die.

good stats but failed to consider the extra hp gain in hatchet and sword combo. useing hatchet to throw and bers to heal. then swap to shield for a 15% hp heal till u can hot swap back for throw heal again. if u add both heals in account u get about 1500 more hp in a full con build so around 4-6 more hits to take with high damage mid from shield
