This is a great list. Thank you for including places that are "too remote/desolate" for solo travelers. Although having time to myself is a big joy of solo traveling, for safety reasons I would very much like having access to human help. Echoing the Morocco one, I'd only go there on a group tour based on similar things I've heard

I was so surprised at how wonderful Morocco was when I was there. Everyone I spoke to advised against going but it quickly became one of my favourites and I want to go back again and again. I went with my ex but he didn't enjoy it and so I spent a lot of time out alone while he sat in cafes and pouted for a month. I actually found my experience without him to be much better. People were so friendly and generous and kind. I dressed almost entirely in their traditional clothing which my wardrobe is full of now, spoke a decent amount of French and was beyond enthusiastic. A few of my hosts said this had a lot to do with my experience. I still to this day do not understand the slack Morocco gets.

South Africa was the first international trip I took. I didn't have any issues with crime. And in actuality I felt safer there than I did in America from the moment my feet touched the airport ground. And it didn't hurt that I spoke basic Zulu and Xhosa. I was actually protected by locals. One literally told a guy "no not her, move on".

I would reconsider including Brazil on this list. While Rio de Janeiro can be quite dangerous for foreigners-there are areas you should definitely avoid-the tourist routes are relatively safe. That said, Rio isn’t the best place for spontaneous adventures or leisurely strolls into the unknown. However, the surrounding satellite cities are absolutely stunning! Plus, Rio is just a small part of what Brazil has to offer. There are so many beautiful places to explore, and it's fairly easy to make new friends. Sure, the language barrier can be challenging, but would you rather interact with people who speak English but lack warmth, or those who may struggle with the language but are genuinely friendly and welcoming? 😊

This is great! I was planning a 50th birthday trip to Maldives by myself, but I'm going to change my plans based on this video. I've had some reservations exactly for the reasons you stated - the lovey doveyiness. This video confirmed my reluctance. Also want to say I've been to South Africa alone many times. You definitely have to be careful (alone or not) because it's a very high crime country. But, you can do it alone with planning and precaution. I even went on a safari trip alone to Pilanesberg (just outside of Johannesburg), but again, I planned well ahead. I had a wonderful tour guide that caters to people traveling alone. Thank you again for this video!

I have been to the maldives multiple times, with a partner, but I would gladly go alone. I always stayed at the resort and it is just a perfect place for a week to pamper yourself. I do a lot of swimming/snorkelling or diving. They have different classes at the gym you can join and you might be there alone or with 2-5 People max. You can do the sunrise / sunset joga, meditation, walks on the island. The food is so delicious and healthy and the stuff extremely friendly. Also the trips by boat are nice. I always come home like a new born person and so relaxed.

I would add the South Asian countries (except Maldives) as places you might not feel safe as a female solo traveler, for the same reasons you listed re: Morocco and South America. "Eve-teasing", as catcalling is called in South Asian countries, is a big thing there. Also, like South Africa, in most cities you probably wouldn't want to be walking around by yourself at any time of day and especially not at night. The countries are incredible and amazing, unlike any other place on Earth, but in my experience, there's safety in numbers.

as someone whos from brazil i definitely have to agree. its hard to even go to the beach there when there isnt a lot of people because even though i was with both my mom and my sister groups of men kept waiting to grab at us, blowing us kisses, and mocking us. we ended up having to get the lifeguard to escort us back home. just a few weeks prior a woman was raped there. unfortunately brazil didn’t always used to be this dangerous but each year it just keeps getting worse.

Surprised to see Las Vegas on the list as a not very experienced solo traveller in my 50s I found it super easy (taxis/ubers plentiful and the 24 hour culture means it's too busy to feel creepy after dark). I had a great time. I think it depends what you are doing - I wasn't partying or hoping to meet people just seeing the sights going to a show and enjoying a cocktail in nice surroundings. Getting drunk (or taking drugs) as a solo anywhere in the world is risky

Born and raised in AK, I like that you clarified the "backcountry", but I should say, quite honestly, it's anywhere in Alaska. The backcountry no one is going to hear you scream, but sadly, it's more devious in the cities. I left a couple decades ago and it's only gotten worse, especially around the Anchorage area. One thing someone told me a long time ago about AK has always stuck with me "People come up here to get away from their past", and the more you look around, the more you realize it's true. There's a huge transient job community (fisherman, mainly) and Alaska is remote. You can earn money and just get away. The problem lies in the fact that these are questionable people to begin with and now you just threw a couple wrenches in the plan - there are very few women, it's miserable weather and boring. Well, then it probably wouldn't surprise you that people get into a lot of trouble when they're bored and the only activity is drinking or doing drugs, huh? My advice? Travel to AK in a group, then leave. It's boring after 3 weeks, anyway.

The truth is though, bad stuff can happen anywhere. You put Chile on the list because of what seems like one bad incident. Is that fair? Have you never had a bad incident anywhere else, including your home town? I'm not defending Chile, I haven't been there. But to put a country on a list like this because of one occurrence seems unfair.

I actually disagree about Maldives. I was there as a female, single traveler and had a great time, the beaches really do look like the post cards. In saying that it depends on why you want to go. The resort catered a lot to snorkelers and divers, so if that's not what you want to spend all day doing, you'd probably get bored fast. I felt secure and there weren't many honemooners on the island that I noticed but I did go off peak and it wasn't a super high end luxurious resort by Maldives standards (although it was very nice). In saying that there also weren't a lot of people traveling solo, and very little to do after dark/apart from being in the ocean, but I still met a few people while I was there when out on the boats. I have heard mixed things from women traveling to the local islands. Some have a great time, some seem to have run into issues especially if not traveling with men. It's important for people to remember it's a conservative muslim country so you need to be careful how you dress in particular.

I love traveling alone and PREFER it. I want to move organically through a place and be able to experience the people, the culture, and all the sensory things unique to an area. Having other people with me is distracting. I also don't want everything to have to be aa democratic discussion over how long we stay somewhere, what we do, whether we accept an invitation from a local or check out something we spot while there, etc. I want to be fully free to guide my experience according to my travel preferences. The only way I'd enjoy having someone with me more than being myself is if their travel style is exactly like mine. The only thing that sucks is that being female makes certain parts of the world that I really want to experience off-limits to me because of safety. Otherwise I'd love to see Lebanon, Turkey, Iran, and N. Africa.

Would love to share my experience female solo traveling through Iran 4 years ago for a month. By that time i wasn’t even experienced but without thinking for a second it is my number one favorite travel country (been now to around 50 countries) when it comes to hospitality and I wanna emphasize I felt extremely safe there. I never experienced locals anywhere else in the world to be so generous, going completely out of their way to give you the best experience, paying you everything (tried to deny but no chance 😅) having non-stop wonderful deep conversations with all these people that have such a high education but are locked into their own country and hearing their perspectives and aspirations had until today changed how I see certain things in life (things as simple as being able to leave your own country…my heart was never fuller leaving a country. I would never walk at night in a lot of areas as say Paris but I would go back to Iran without a second of hesitation. Surely I don’t encourage anyone to travel there in times is protest etc but I do think we need to be careful giving advice on countries we have never been to as we just can not paint a proper picture so I feel just not mentioning Iran would have done the country more justice ❤ so those who seek to visit this country one day don’t get mislead by information that are not very accurate in my opinion. Especially as a tourist you have a special status there and people, especially tourist don’t just disappear from the streets like that. Not saying nothing ever happens but if you look at statistics there’s much higher risks crap happening to you in so many much more popular tourist countries. Love your content! :) thank you

If you wanted to visit London, Manchester and all the major cities seriously be careful where abouts in the cities you are going and stick to the populated areas. However, rural England, Scotland, Wales etc is incredible! I highly recommend going to Cornwall, Devon, Peak District or Lake District ❤

If you are looking to meet locals and party, i wouldn't recommend travelling on your own. Also recommend staying at a top end hotel. I have heard crime is up in even some of the better (not top end) hotels where they now have security at the elevators to rooms and must show your key card. Also heard that the SkyTrain stations are a no no at night.

The hustlers were not aggressive like in Egypt 🇪🇬 I haven’t been to Casablanca or Fez etc but friends told me they had fun. So, I can’t wait to return & go to Casablanca. I may just check into the Riad Jonan again & take the train to Casablanca like they told me but I ran outta time. Plus they treated me like family & I know the city now.
