You will find a lot of reasons to go to Chikmagalur. Today, I want to give you some reasons you should not go to #Chikmagalur.
Like a lot of places in India, Chikmagalur is a hidden #gem. It is not #mainstream. And you will not see a lot of #tourists talking about it. Majorly because CKM is not like any other place you will visit. It is not crowded with #people. But It is covered in lush #green trees. Over here I saw the shades of green I never knew existed.
And apart from the great benefits to the economy that come with excessive tourism, we can’t deny the negative impact it has on the #environment and the local culture. One thing is certain, places like CKM are not meant for those who do not #respect its innocence. Small towns and villages are not equipped to tackle the #waste tourists generate. And that throws the whole system off balance.
Because #irresponsible #tourism will take away the magic that we see today.
Visit Chikmagalur to leave behind nothing else but only your footprints and to take back some great memories!
Presenting Episode 7: DO NOT VISIT CHIKMAGALUR
Since last 20 years, if something makes news about #Chikmagalur more than its coffee then it is the religious unrest. But that wasn't always the case! In fact, Chikmagalur and Baba Budangiri / Datta Peeta was a place of religious harmony, where Hindus and Muslims conducted their rituals peacefully. Until demands were made to get total control over the place of devotion.

Media calls it Ayodhya of the South. I DO NOT ENCOURAGE putting a label so heavy on this. I feel the issues are different. By linking one important topic with another, we support the agendas of people wanting to benefit from the vulnerability of the issue.
I am not here to point fingers. NO.
But I am here to raise some very important questions.
1. Is religion above law?
2. Is it so easy to divide a town or a country for that matter with the help of religion?
3. Is the great divide helping the common folk?
Chikmagalur had a glorious past. And it can have a great future too! If the leaders and the people can focus on the productive bits of the society!
This is about the rich #Culture in and around #CKM. This is about the peace-loving locals of CKM. This is about religion. And how it can make or break the society.
