Very interesting. There are so many choices out there now. Manufacturers have really stepped up their game. Kinda makes your head spin when you’re in the process of getting new clubs.

Good dispersion. And good yardage gaps. Where I struggled with single length is with PW, GW, SW in single length - especially with touch shots/half shots etc. I had Sterlings.

I had the opposite, I love the short irons and wedges...do not care for the 5 and 6 irons. I have never felt comfortable with anything less than an 8 iron...the longer wedges have helped me tremendously. Edit to add...I play Edel SLS01 irons.

Jim. thank you for your assessment of single length irons....as many may have mentioned i wanted to try them without spending 7 to 800.... so i bought orlimar version..5 thru GW.....they work well, once i got used to the ball placement... my 6 iron is my 150 club [ used a lot ] however i can't get the 5 iron to do much more than that and it has a considerable lower ball flight.... [ i think they mention spring face on lower loft clubs but not sure... ] do you think lead tape placed low will give me a netter trajectory and more distance?... i believe all irons are at 37.5" your thoughts would be most appreciated. Respectfully, Vince

there is something to it. But you have to be mentally prepared for it. if you listen closely I talk about direction as if the 5 iron is long and I fade as I normally do. But its the same length!!! That would need to be adjusted for sure.

@@McGolf thanks Jim. Currently I go from Driver to 2 iron (PING driving iron) then 4-LW. I have done really good with that set up and do not really have any "gaps" that need filled, however it is something to try. Good content, I play Yonex ADX tour irons forged with their LTB600 Boron reinforced graphite shaft stiff (circa late 90's). The feel is amazing. I would like to see some content on the evolution of graphite shafts and how the new shafts compare to early shafts.

Jim , I am building a set of Wishon EQ-1 and using Wishon S2S white shaft regular at 75 grams. I have a Problem with the shafts. I cut them to 8 iron length which is trimming them 3 inches because of the weight . Now the problem is I am building them to a regular stiffness but the CPM's range from 295 to 287 , the length is 37 inches. According to my frequency chart a Regular is 310 CPM. I do not see how I can get this up to the CPM's regular plus keep them keep them the same across the build. Any words of wisdom? Love your show been watching it for over 3 years. Moved from Akron 3 years ago to sunny Fl..
@Snowman9K4 жыл бұрын
The S2S Whites are soft. The chart I use, which came from the now defunct PCS, would show 310 as into the stiff range. 300-305 would be a nice regular in my book. Now, if you cut them another inch, will the gain in frequency be worth the trade off in tip flex? (Stiffer tip than designed.) It might actually help the higher loft clubs. I'd say try the lowest loft with one you've cut, and maybe a wedge too. You might find that you like it in the low loft but not the wedge. If so, pull the wedge shaft and re-use it in another lower lofted iron. Then cut the 8 or 9 through wedges with more tipping. Just my thoughts. I've built and played about 3 sets of SL irons. Varying the tipping can have some impact on how they play and how high or not they hit.
@Bkkbudtender3 жыл бұрын
What do you recommend for one length iron? Mine has a universal hosel. I've been told get all parallel shafts then butt&tip trim all of them to 7 iron length. But companys like Cobra used taper tips shafts for all their one length irons. They only butt trim all shafts to the same length.

After watching this, are we saying that the Paderson single length shaft is doing the work for gapping and ball flight? In other words, could I put these on any head and convert to SL and they will perform like the sterlings?

interesting video. It would probably help though if the shaft was compared to another shaft (used also in SL irons). I currrently game Sterlings with Wishon shafts - and I'm seriously thinking of moving to Edel (which uses Paderson). I'm very happy with the Sterlings - but I just want to upgrade to Edel.

I literally just ordered one of the last sets of sterling heads, but didn't order them installed because I couldn't get fit due to Covid. I have never played single length. The builder mentioned considering a Nunchuck iron shaft for those so how lengths. Do you have any thoughts/opinions/experience with those? How would they compare to the padersons you tested here (if you know)? If you can comment about the price point of these shafts that would be good to know too for reference... Thanks

Awesome content Jim. Did you try chipping with that length of wedge? I would love to try that just to see how the difference would feel in a longer chipping club. Question: Any way you game that type of set? Have you seen any combo sets that the wedges are a shorter length and the 9 iron to hybrid are the single length? Cheers.
@Snowman9K4 жыл бұрын
You get used to chipping with the longer club. You can choke down too. The only shots I found weird were the sand and little flop type shots. Also, I carried a normal 58, which I used for those anyway.
@kourt24694 жыл бұрын
I actually liked the longer length for chipping. Didn't feel like I was crouched over so much and was way more comfortable. The only issue Id say is the lack of wedge options. There is only one bounce and grind so if you need more or less bounce than what is offered you are sort of out of luck.
