I'm a taller golfer and did a backyard shaft extension, added 1.5 inches which was too much given my high but I can grip down alittle. I also put on Midsized grips ( Golf Pride MC +4). I don't have equipment to measure the weights, this was done on the cheap PW-5 Iron (6 Irons), what I realized after was the 5 Iron is now the same length as my 4 Iron ( Srixon Z 525 ) and my 3 Iron ( Cobra Forged CB ). So 5,4,3 are all the same length and its great, I feel very confident now with any of these clubs. I don't get the 3 iron fear from the grass. The weights are no doubt messed up but its great having the same length for these long Irons.

Hey Jim, I got a guestion for you. I bought a used set of forge tecs for a steal of a price. It's a 5-9 set, but the 5i and 9i head - although set up with a standard length shaft - are one length heads. If I put the proper one length shafts on those heads; would I be able to shorten the 6i by 1/2 an inch and then lengthen the 8i 1/2 an inch to have a pseudo one length set? Or is that 1/2 an inch really detremental to those irons. Thank you

Im sold on SL-but I use SL thru 7 iron and standard in my longer clubs which I use hybrids anyway (6 on up) but long story short, SL is for people who need to hit the ball higher. The gaps in loft do need to be a lil more and you could actually eliminate a 9 iron or 8 iron from the set.

Hoped you cover shaft trimming instructions. Do you make multiple 7 iron shafts (or whatever length iron you choose) with the tip and butt end cut identically or do you trim the tip for the number of the iron, making the shaft flex progressive as with a usual set, then butt trim to the one length of the set thanks
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
Once the length is established I then find the flex on the first irons and continue the same process. The single length ideal is that the club will work in the same way. Meaning the flex is the same, length and lie etc.

Tom Donnelly you are talking about counter balanced shaft. In irons they are rare. But there are also back weights that can do the same thing from balance certified. Sometimes the SW cam also be overcome by bigger grips. Because if you need that typically you are a bigger guy

Does the weight difference affect things?

Single length heads should all be same lie and same weight. I built myself a set using In1zone heads and Apollo stepless shafts to test the concept, all in less than $200. I lost a touch of distance on the longer end, this is normal, but my handicap dropped 6 points in a year. I play a lot smarter now (you’re almost forced too)and my hdcp is continuing to drop. A gapping session is a must after you fully embrace the system.

I understand that Back in the early days of single length clubs. Part of the solution to getting the clubs to hit their expected distances. Was to adjust the kick points of the shafts to raise or lower the ball flights. Is this still a thing? Or has club head technology “fixed” this?
@kourt24695 жыл бұрын
LokiLures cobra is trying shaft weight and flex to tackle the issue but it doesn’t work well and throws off the feel between clubs. Wishons heads seem to do the trick. I’ve played them for 3 years and have no issues except a low flight 4 iron but it’s also 19 degrees of loft so you really shouldn’t even have one unless you swing 85 mph with a 7 iron length club.

Sandy Chan not worth it. Especially for how much those pxgs cost not worth destroying them. You’ll have to add like 30 grams to the lower loft irons and then grind off and drill out 15-20 grams from the higher lofts. Probably couldn’t even do it with the pxg hollow heads.

Sir, Everyone seems to want the single length clubs a little longer. I'm very short and would want to go the other way. Instead of making all clubs 7 or 8 iron length; I'd like to go shorter and make all clubs to pitching wedge length. I realize that the 5,6,7, irons won't go quite as far , bit I don't care. As long as I know how far each one goes that's all matters to me. My concern is that you can't get the total weight, kick point and swing weight correct. I have a set of NOVA length clubs and would consider purchasing a new set if you can cut them down and make them work. Thanks, John

Nothing wrong with the presentation, but I just want to correct you on the fact that Wishon was first to market with SL. The original SL date way back -- I believe Moe Norman played SL. Then, of course, there was a couple of failed attempts at SL in the 90s (I believe). But of the modern SL, David Lake has been producing 1Irons (1Iron golf) since the 90s. I played 1Irons since 2007, which predates Wishon by some time. In fact, I think ValueGolf's Pinhawks and maybe even Diamond Tours In1Zone SL irons predate the Sterlings. The In1Zone are highly under-rated. Their out-of-the-box lofts don't make great sense, but they bend like butter, so they are easily adjusted. My point is that Bryson DeChambeau and Wishon get far too much credit for this concept.
@OtterLakeFlutes5 жыл бұрын
Oh... ok. So... then it takes special heads...darn. So I can't really make either single length or even 2 lengths out of my new Maltby KE4 Forged iron heads? They are forged 1030 steel and so of course can be bent a bit, and they are highly weight customizeable between the one removable weight and aaaall the places to hide weights or cleanly apply tape, like no other head I've held. I'm not even ready to use them but they were discontinued and I really wanted them for my future, esp. at 50% off for heads I knew so many people on so many levels enjoyed. I saw a oddball brand of $2000 golf club sets that touted just two shaft lengths, advertised (on some site that sells single replacement irons), and wondered why it wasn't more common. Now I see this, single lengths? Well I guess it's similar because those, I think, had woods. Seems to make so much more sense after hunkering down for a 9 iron and thinking "should I be standing like this for my 4 iron and backing away from the ball, so that I have a consistent posture?". I'm learning, but I guess I can see how lie angles really need adjusting sometimes for some people. I like the idea of doing something special with these heads I got. While not earning any aesthetic elegance awards, this Maltby KE4 "Forged" model in the KE4 adjustable weights line has an amazing potential for weight-tinkering. A removable weight in the middle, and just all kinds of space to add and even hide weights. Big, deep pockets one either side of the middle weight, one could even dig out the metal decal and add weight lead tape there anywhere around the perimeter if desired to experiment, people put little triangular tapes in the trapezoidal spaces...hehe. I couldn't resist. Turns out I bought the second to the last set and then they were gone forever. I guess they had a 6 year run. Every owner I see liked them, unlike some other KE4's with much more mixed reviews. But I guess on average, real players' players don't want such an oddball thing, and higher cappers want more tow & heel weight, and so all the newer models just have a removable weight in the toe and/or heel, no more uber-tinker-able ones anymore like these with cavernous pockets in the tow and heel you could rent out to sleepy Japanese tourists to nap inside, with the removable screw weight just in the middle. I'm just tickled pink I have them, but will bide my time making these clubs up special. Somehow. I'm thinking TrueTemper Dynamic Gold-something steel, maybe lighter than standard. I even like the feel of Apollo Shadow stepped steel lighter shaft, honestly, but I like the thick, ever-lasting chrome job of TT's and want to play and experiment eight-tinkering with these heads for a long time. I want to improve a bit before I even use them, but if I hadn't bought them, I'd have never gotten them. 50% off and totally unique. Being form forged instead of cast sealed the deal. If I watch enough videos, as a machinist and archery bow and arrow designer and builder, I can probably fit myself if I take my time.
