I don't advertise anything until it's 100% ready, saves hassle, you can always put it one side then for whatever reason, over a year both ways will work out the same, but sorting first saves hassle, did a qubo this week, mot, top mounts, service, paint all done, advert, sold day 2,ready to go, no hassle, no promises, job done, can't really see how people will buy before it's done, particularly paint.

First one of these I have watched and it was very interesting. Great insights and will follow these now. Referring back to the battery replacement for James the one at 30% only time that would be a problem is if it stops the stop start working. I bought a GLE in January and the media control touchpad stop working. Garage I bought it from ordered a genuine part had it delivered to me as I offered to fit it myself. A week later I realised stop start wasn’t working after I fully charged the battery. Spoke to the dealer again and he bank transferred me £250 for the battery. That was a great service without any argument etc. So a shoutout to Britania Cars in Sheffield. Excellent dealer to deal with. I even offered to speak to warranty company but he said it wasn’t worth it. Not all dealers are bad 👍

Great content, gives real insight in what goes on behind the scenes. If only people realised the time and effort taken to prepare a vehicle and sell it then pray nothing goes wrong. If only...

Hey guys, listening from Australia, really interesting chat. Started a prepurchase inspection business after being a mechanic for many years. Bit different here, 2 days cooling off on any purchase and a few more laws to protect the customers, but nothing like you have got. Here in South Australia we have no MOT on cars, so the idea of what constitutes a safe vehicle is.... murky for some. No names, but inspected a car from a dealer last week, which had just had codes cleared (know that from the live data) and already had an active engine fault, but hadn't finished it's cycle before putting on the engine light. The dealer tried to tell the customer to buy it and let the warranty sort it out. Listening to your comments about warranty, especially preexisting faults, I'm pleased that I informed my client to ask for the active engine code to be sorted before purchasing the car. He was happy to buy the car, but after a few different stories and a bit of a run around, they lost the sale. It wasn't a cheap car, and it was a high-performance model, so I know the fix may not be cheap (worse case) that should not become the buyers problem to try and argue once the computer decides the fault isn't going to rectify itself. Really good to hear your side of business, i do have to prepare my customers expectations at times. I do draw the line though at safety items and possible long drawn out electrical repairs. Anyway, good podcast, going to watch episode 1 know, then get on with my own youtube channel to help people know what to look for when buying cars.

It’s an interesting headline, one that could be asked of traders too. I have had the misfortune to purchase a Range Rover from a trader - without finance -that has presented various issues. I took it to a Land Rover specialist for a comprehensive health check. There were numerous faults but the headlines were the gearbox needs replacing, needs a new engine and the turbo is about to go. Never mind the injectors over fuelling. The car presented in excellent condition, unmarked bodywork and interiors showing few signs of wear. Every switch, button and tech works perfectly. As they have had this in stock for over 12 months how could they not know the serious faults that lie beneath? Despite sending all this information through with a nicely worded email, I have had no response after a week. So it works both ways.

I price up for no p ex, last one I did was mths ago, only gave a small amount, tbh wasn't even worth that, broken spring, cuts out and brake pedal sinks to the floor, I find p exs on cheaper cars are faulty, probably some rubbish they've bought it on FB.

That battery will have been down to 30%as the garage will have had doors opened while servicing it, a 30% good battery wouldn't have started it anyway, so that's a load of rubbish, had one a few mths ago when the clocks went back, they left the lights on, but it was my fault, I said if the cars starting in the morning from cold the batteries fine.
@BarryRudge2 ай бұрын
I am fortunate that I own a number of cars so if I send a car to the garage for service or repair they already know I'm in no rush as I am aware some customers just have the one car and without it, it's as if they've had their legs cut off and desperately need it back ASAP so I don't mind my car going on the back burner.
@roystonvehicles91292 ай бұрын
Back in the day there'd be articles about what to look for on a car, or buying a sports, prestige car because it was on you from day one, now people want all the gear, all the flash and the dealers got to run it, my mates bought an 08 continental for 27k and he's expecting the dealer to basically run it for him for at least the first year, I've just scanned it and it's rich bank 2,dealers going to be for it.

I ( Personally ) have not bought a car from a dealer for over 20yrs. Had a few 'bad' experiences in my early day's of car ownership. Basically, my mantra is/was buying from a 'dealer ', the 'Guarantee ' was not worth the paper it was written on. People always trade cars in when they start playing up, so inevitably the next owner end up with a pig in a poke 😂. The 'Fairer sex' don't understand Preventive Maintenance, and as a seasoned motorists i always give certain cars a wide berth. ( Citroën c1/ fiat 500/ minis/ beatles/ i10s etc etc etc. To end this 'Rant' ( i watch both your channels and matt at high peak) there are quite a few good dealers out there, I'm an old giffer , but realise that things have changed re buying 2nd hand cars. ( seems to be more in-favour of the buyer than the seller? ) . I've got blisters on my fingers typing this out. 😂. Take care both ( really enjoy both your contents)

A question to either of you to answer from your own perspectives as I’m not sure of the answer myself….. Hypothetically, you are selling stock worth 100k per unit on average but you take in a car with a couple of kerbed wheels, a scuffed bumper and the interior leather trim has never had a good clean in its 6 year life. Do you a) bang the car straight out as is onto your platforms / forecourts, having priced in a few k for the repairs should the customer want to bargain. The customer might not notice or care of course. Or b) get all the work done and make the car as perfect as possible, all for the same overall cost but giving the customer no room to haggle. Potential customer negatives in the first instance could be seeing the car in its ‘just come in state’ could make them question how it’s been looked after. And in the second, even if the car was mint, the customer would still want a deal with a bit off the top. Personally, I’m amazed how badly prepared some cars are at many dealers in this price bracket, so there must be a reason for it?

I think what's going on is a rules and regulations free for all, people buying a car that they know in the end if they cant afford it, or any other excuse it will end up going back to the dealer or auctioned at a loss by the finance company, then buyer getting all their money back, its a win win car for free, i don't remember this type of thing going on in the eighties, if you were stupid enough to buy a lemon, then you were stuck with it, not that that would be acceptable now, but the culture seems that people impulse buy something they cant afford and know that in the end it will cost them nothing, and as the saying goes the customer is always right🤣

On the vehicles you're offered to purchase but are maybe too far away why not give the leads to other traders in the area near to the vendor...maybe a small commission for yourselves on a good lead. As a new start up I would gladly try to miss the auctions if I could gain a few leads in my area.
