The Sound of a Pandemic! Don't worry, Maria and the Von Trapplings from know how to deal with it!
Do Re Mi Covid-19 version - nothing like Covid 19 songs to help us know how to beat this pandemic! A relyricing of the popular Sound of Music song.
Lyrics below.
A couple of quick points:
- The song is not intended to be taken seriously - I made it to humour myself and am quite blown away at the following it's got over such a short time. No, wine is not a cure for Covid 19. Neither is whinging or blobbing (real words.) No, they're not good at social distancing in the video - it was released in 1965.
- Arguments about the origin of the virus and racist remarks will be deleted. Wherever Patient 0 got it from, the song refers to the fact that major spread first started in Wuhan, something which literature from all sides acknowledges. This does not give license for anyone to think negatively about the region or play blame games. I will delete bigoted and racist comments about China or her people, America or her people, and anywhere in between.
Stay safe and in your bubbles - greetings from New Zealand.

Let's start at the very beginning
A sore throat, a cough in Wuhan
And in no time at all, there were 1, 2, 3
And one went on a plane - took it overseas
Overseas
And that’s how pandemics get started, you see
Woe is me
Now we’ve got Covid-19
Do not fear - but please stay here
Stay at home now, everyone
We must wash and clean things well
Cars? No long trips just for fun!
Don’t let Covid virus spread
Isolate yourself at home
See your friends online instead
That’s the healthy way to go oh oh oh
X2
Do not fear - but just stay here
Time to all self-isolate
Wash your hands, use lots of soap
Don’t go further than your gate!
Social life must stay online
Keep 2 metres clear of me,
Watch TV, drink lots of wine
That will kill Covid-19!
Cough in your elbow, wash your hands with soap!
Now children, staying at home -and-so on are things we do to stop the spread of Covid-19
Once you have this in your head
You can do a million different things at home to stay sane,
Like this:
Sleep, eat, whinge, tweet, snooze, blob, think
Loaf, mooch, doze, smooch, binge watch, drink
But staying inside is so boring!
So we think about why - remember why we’re doing it - like this:
When you know the reason why,
Kill off Covid - stay inside!
Exercise close to your home
Only shop for what you need
Keep your bubble tightly closed
And we’ll beat this bug with speed!
Social life has been postponed
And you’re bored out of your mind
Suck it up and stay at home
And we’ll leave this bug behind!
Cough in your elbow, wash your hands,
Keep two metres away from me
Yes please, I’m germ free
And that’s how I’d like to be!
Keep away, please from me
I will stay Covid free!
When you know the things to do, germs will stay away from you!
Stay inside your bubble now
Do not spread those germs around
Yes, you might be going mad
And be desperate to get out!
It’s a nasty world out there
Keep the social distance rules
Everything you touch - beware
You could spread - more - germs, you (fools)
Flatten the curve - Covid 19!
You have got the power to flatten the curve through
The things you choose to do - it’s true!

In 50 years we are all going to get interviewed about our time living during COVID-19 and what we felt and experienced during this. Some will say they lost their jobs, others will say they reconnected with family, others will find reasons that it was socially acceptable to drink at 11am while working remotely. This video to me represents the day when life went from a normal day at work and home to not knowing what will ever happen next!!

At the beginning of the lockdown in March 2020 in Switzerland, when my supervisor told me not to come to work due to a cold, I searched for songs about COVID-19 and came across this song. Since then, not a day goes by that I do not listen to this. Even at work, I often go like "Do not fear but please stay here, stay at home now, everyone. We must wash and clean things well, cars? No long trips just for fun"… Now I am in the process of writing a COVID version of this song in German (German is my first language). Many thanks for sharing your talent with us, Shirley, keep your songs coming!!

Only lyrics are replaced by synchronising with the voice of singers. Whatever is shown is nothing but original Song sequence. As such it’s not matching with the present critical situation. However modified song exactly matches. The writer’s effort is definitely praiseworthy.

@@izfida Negative. The setting of the movie that provided the video for this, "The Sound of Music", was immediately prior to the start of WWII when Hitler invaded Austria. (that event occurred late in this movie, and puts the date of this scene as the Spring/Summer of 1939) The Spanish Flu pandemic lasted from the spring of 1918 through the summer of 1919, 20 years prior.

That's actually a good point. It reminds us that pretty much every generation deals with one new huge life changing crisis or another. After world war II, there was the Cold war... for my generation it was the Vietnam war. For my kids, came 9/11 (even though I really think that one may have affected us more than it did them). For my older grandkids, I'm thinking it was mass school shootings. Now, for the younger ones it's Covid-19. And... unfortunately this covid-19 is DIRECTLY affecting everyone of every generation in this world today. You know, my brain doesn't always work as good as it used to but I really am not remembering anything really big that directly affected us here in the US between Vietnam and 9/11. I mean, there was Desert Storm and all of the Middle East goings on, but all if that really didn't effect the everyday life of all the people in the US as a whole like the other things I mentioned. If anyone reads this and can think of anything I've forgotten, can you please remind me? 🙏. 💞✌️💞

I don't know, I think it's a bit insulting to compare Covid19 to the Blitz. Yes a shocking number of people are dying, but children are staying at home with their ipads, not being packed off into the unknown. No-one's being forced into factories to handle high explosives, or sent overseas for years at a time. Our homes aren't being bombed, there's enough food for everyone, we aren't having to have our pets euthanized, there's no threat of enemy invasion, the risk of our children dying is minimal... It is a really unsettling time, we don't know what's coming next, but you really can't compare 2020 with 1940.
