So I started embracing my hair texture 2 years ago when I went to get my hair cut and my stylist said I have curly hair (not straight like I always thought) crazy, I know. I’ve learned sooo much between now and then. Anyway here we go y’all, I have A LOT of tips. 1. Learn your curl pattern AND your hair porosity. I have similar curl pattern to India’s (btw you are my curl inspo) but have very low porosity. Porosity is how porous your hair is and how easily it takes in moisture. Low Po is susceptible to protein overload which is what I experienced when I did coconut oil masks. Too much protein can make your hair dry and brittle. On the other hand, too much moisture is a thing so be careful of that too. Bottom line: don’t only pay attention to your curl pattern because your porosity level also is a huge factor in what products you should use. 2. What works for most people may not work for you, just accept it. Personally, I cannot plop for the life of me. My waves become curly at the ends but the whole crown of my head is straightened and funky afterwards. Try new things, but don’t force something if it just isn’t working. If you guys have any tips about plopping and what I may be doing wrong please reply because I miss plopping. 3. HAIR MASKS. Like India said, they’re a game changer. Everyone compliments me on my hair after I do them. Also idk if you guys do this but I used to wash my mask out with shampoo after (I’m real dumb I guess). Anyway please don’t do that, just rinse it out like a normal person. 4. Scrunch in your products while your still in the shower. I usually scrunch everything in while my hair is pretty wet and I have my head flipped upside down. Then I scrunch with a t shirt and microfiber towel with my head still flipped over. Then I let is air dry normally, occasionally flipping my head from side to side to encourage volume. 5. Use the LOC method for high porosity hair and the LCO method for low porosity. This has always stuck in my head but there’s a saying that I have found to be true, “oil before cream for frizz extreme. Cream before oil for fantastic coils” 6. Guys don’t use silicones, just don’t. 7. Satin pillow case, scrunchies, protective styles. PROTECT YOUR HAIR YALL. Sorry for the long list, but these are the biggest lessons I’ve learned since going curly. Hope it helps.

How did you get rid of your oily roots?
@OpalMoonstone247 Жыл бұрын
@@ashleyoday5791invest in a scalp massaging brush to shampoo. Game changer. Keep your brushes clean as well. Product buildup will add to greasy roots. Also, don't dry brush at all close to the scalp. Best to only wet brush during conditioning or while applying your gels/creams/mousses. I rarely have to grab dry shampoo anymore. But you really want to upgrade to a better shampoo in the first place. You can still find professional grade at the drugstore. And basically, follow the tips that India gave here.💙👌🏻

I struggle with this at times. What works best for me is gently scrunching my roots with a microfiber towel before I air dry, that way they form some curls. Also, a suggestion from India that's been a personal game changer - flip your hair from side to side about every 15ish minutes while it's drying!!

I don't use conditioner on wash days. Instead I use deep conditioner after washing follow up with leave in and gels. Believe me it is the best thing that helped me during my transitioning phase. It keeps my curls frizz free even during the humid summers of India ...

What about major tangles? I have naturally curly wavy hair like yours and just found your channel - thank god! I think my hair has major potential. I have literally never used a curl product on it - I can't wait to see what it looks like once I do. I was going to purchase the NYM products you just mentioned in another video along with the wavemaker from DevaCurl. Are these the few products you would recommend to start out with? I bleached my a few months back so I have been using a lot of detanglers and moisturizers right after I get out of the shower. I use a regular towel to dry it - now going to switch to Aquis towels, but use and brush my hair with detanglers right away. I have quite a bit of breakage from the damage of the bleach but I am trying my best to be as gentle as possible at the moment - still losing quite a bit of hair. I have been brushing my hair before my shower so it is not nearly as bad after I get out of the shower. Would you recommend just not brushing it at all after the shower? I am new to this so any advice would be super helpful! Thank you :)

Soft baby towels! Not the terrycloth kind, but the soft, knit kind. It is soft enough that you can gently squeeze the water out of your hair and it really soaks the water in. They’re small, so they’re not heavy, yet, just big enough to wrap all of your hair in. Try it and see if it works for you. If you’re a mom like me, you probably already have a baby towel.

Your hair is perfect... I have issues with my hair & when you said not to condition it on the roots I was like: oh my, what about my dandruff?! Any advice for me?
@lilMissAdoria5 жыл бұрын
I get dandruff too, and I just use a pyrithion zinc shampoo with some tea tree oil mixed in, then my regular conditioner richly on the ends and then very lightly on to the roots, and rinse the roots right away. So I'd put it in the ends, and do something else for a couple mins, then run my fingers through the ends and then through the scalp area. Then rinse asap. Dandruff isn't dry skin, it's a buildup of yeast-dead skin type thing. So conditioner doesn't really help it at all, and could be making it worse because it weighs down those particles so they can't slough off like they should. Give it a try for a couple of weeks, if it doesn't make things better then go back to using it as you normally would. I find if I condition my whole head evenly that I look greasy end of day 1, instead of end of day 2. So that's why I switched, but as a kid and young teen I did the whole head condish so I know the fear lol. You may have an adjustment period but in the end I think you'll be happy with it.

I started the curly girl method a few months ago and my hair was a nightmare. While I did get more definition, my hair was extremely dry and I got split ends like crazy. My hair was never like this prior to the cg method. I had gorgeous long healthy wavy hair, and now my hair is full of breakage. I got a large trim to remove the breakage and switched back to using sulphates and silicones and my hair is already much more under control and moisturized. I have no idea why my hair is like this. I have 2a/2b hair for reference
@elusnuga6 жыл бұрын
Alyssa Dolan I’m pretty sure that was the natural state of your hair, but you were using products with silicones which coat your strands and make even the most frizzy & damaged hair look good, so when you stopped using silicones you were able to see your natural hair. I have seen many people online who were shocked just how unhealthy their hair really was when they stopped using silicones. Aside from that, I agree that CG method doesn’t work for everyone. Not using a SLS shampoo made my scalp flaky, itchy and I started getting pimples on my scalp!

Hey India! So my hair type is kinda curly wavy. I have mostly ringlets and some wavy pieces. Overall I would day it’s a little curlier than urs. But I have trouble sleeping with it. I have tried the pineapple method, but my hair is too thin and won’t stay in it. But when I do it tighter my hair gets straight. Plus my hair is a little loner so I’m kinda scared the ends will get messed up. So then I tried doing a loose bun. Again doesn’t stay. So then I do it tighter...and it gets straight. Any method I can do to sleep in my hair without it getting straight?!?! Thanks❤️

India! I need your help! 😂 (anyone that sees this comment and also has a suggestion please feel free to comment, thanks!) I have 2b hair and I wear my hair natural pretty much everyday except for special events such as a graduation or honor roll, so I barely use heat on my hair. My hair is waist long so it's super long and I also take super good care of it so it is super healthy. The thing is I looove to put hair elixirs and serums on my hair every morning and night because I love how it makes my hair smell, feel and look. The thing is, the more I've researched I've found that a lot of those products contain silicone wich obviously isn't good for the hair since in the long run it will dry it out because of the barrier that it creates. I have been searching for an oily product that can replace the ones that I've been using which currently is a Garnier almond, avocado and coconut oil elixir, which tbh has worked fine with my hair but I would love to find one that I know will not damage my hair in the long run. If you have any recommendations I would looove to hear them. Thank you in advance! ❤

You could always just make your own “elixir” with oils and make it smell nice with essential oils. Like you could def mix coconut, sweet almond, and avocado oil yourself. The downside is initially it’s definitely more expensive but in the long run it’ll last longer and make your hair healthier.

This is such a cute shirt! Would you ever consider a sort of lookbook type video?

I purchased the Aveda Thickening Toner you and other curly girls recommended. I followed the steps for shampooing and conditioning, then applied the toner before other styling products. My hair is medium blonde with highlights, fine hair and not much of it, shoulder length with some layers, with a curl pattern that is naturally in "S"curves about 1 inch, curl pattern somewhat like yours in some of your videos. I have used the product two times. I must be doing something wrong. My hair looks weighed down. I tried it both ways: air drying and diffusing. I am so sad because I really need a product that will thicken my hair. Any ideas?
