The company (GreanBase Ltd) who are now a gardening tool manufacturer and perhaps not surprisingly sell "The Grumpy Gardener" range of products is still going strong and in the first quarter of 2021 was showing assets of £597,511. Although there has been another director in the past the company now appears to be solely owned by the father and son team (Michael and Joe Smith) who appeared in the den.

Ken...the profit was NOT £597,511.....that value is the asset value of the business and not the pre tax profit. Profits are NOT shown on abridged / micro accounts. The profit information is on the full set of accounts which goes only to HMRC for small companies.

The father and son made the right decision. 50% would have been a robbery and the dragons would have just sold the patent and taken a quick profit and screwed them over. The father and son can make more money from this by themselves than the robbing deal that the dragons offered.

It should be noted that the reason the Dragons want 50% is that they have EXTREMELY low expectations for the business. They need 50% so that even if they only make 100k profit, they can still claw back their capital. Asking for 50% is like saying 'I don't think you'll make it big and I have no intention of making it so, but I want half of your small pie'
