I have the irons previous to these, and they are excellent for mid handicap golfers. They are showing good longevity. The after care from Caley is excellent. And previously you could return them, Ryan said use the seven iron only to test and return them all if not suited. Don't know if that still the case. These irons are fairly priced, high quality and recommended.

@@richardbicker640 My mistake, they are ZX5's - which are great clubs! I'm a club maker and swap shafts for testing regularly. I really like the trajectory and feel of the KBS C-Taper lite. That's why numerous PGA Pros have switched to them. I'm not a fan of the new KBS Light shafts that are in the Caley irons as their launch is too high.

These companies most likely aren't doing their own R&D. A number of DTC brands get their club heads from Deson Golf. That's probably why these look almost identical (other than the logos) to the Sub 70 699s and the Takomo 101s.

@MisaelValdez24 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you! His numbers were super consistent with that 7 iron. I have a set of PXG GEN3 0311XP. I absolutely love them, and they are extremely forgiving. But I do catch some flyers that just jump off the face and go 10-15 yards further than I want them too. For example, today I had a 194 yard par three. There was about a 6 mph wind behind me so I grabbed my 7 iron, which is at 30° loft that I typically carry 178 average yards. I landed about a yard before the pin, and bounced off the green for a total of 213 yards. That’s the only thing I dislike about these game improvement irons. I’m looking to get into a more player style iron where my numbers will stay consistent. But these iron prices are just getting out of hand.

I almost got some takomo's (which are exactly the same club). I was going to get fitted for p790's and use the length/lie for the 101's. They were out of stock, so I just got fitted for some pxg 0211's xcor 2's($99/stick). I'm so happy to see that there are options for game improvement irons and even players irons that don't cost $1300 for a set. Golf prices have just been through the roof and I think that these DTC brands are going to put the larger companies in a tight spot from a value proposition perspective.

I have Mizuno JPX 923 Tours that I just bought in May and I adore. Expensive set to be sure. The data from these irons is impressive for their price and I'm glad to see that. I don't feel robbed at all having spent nearly 3x the price on my Mizunos but I feel iron prices have just gotten criminal. You even mention it, 20 years ago they were priced around this. Now, I'd understand $800-900 for premium irons and MAYBE $1000 for sets that are 4i-GW but 1400 is just outrageous. Happy to see these direct to consumer brands making real strides in quality while staying cost competitive. Hope it can really humble some of the kings of golf equipment. If only we could get a golf ball that rivals pro v1s for a solid price. For me, I game Bridgestone B RX but still feel like Pro V1s are the absolute best golf ball around. In particular off the face of a blade putter they just give so much feedback and inspire so much confidence that I legitimately save strokes in my putting game with them.

Unfortunately guys like Rick or any of the other KZbin golf personalities won't likely ever be reviewing Maltby clubs. I had a chat with Britt Lindsey at Maltby and because they won't participate in giving out free sets for reviews like all of these DTC brands that we're seeing, AND no KZbin reviewer will likely ever come out of pocket to buy a set of Maltbys, this is a dead discussion. It's really unfortunate because Maltby are 100% original designs. Craftsmanship, and quality are far greater than any of these other generic looking DTC models, and they actually have decades of design pedigree and history. Unbeknownst to Rick, a set of TS4's could be his next gamers but he'd never know because they'll never cross his path. 😢

@@AZstu324yeah, I actually live about 20 minutes from their HQ. Really awesome people over there. But I've heard the same about them not really wanting to push their clubs on "influencers". They frankly keep busy enough that they probably don't need it. Still, I wish more people would know about them. They really are outstanding clubs. I haven't hit the TS4 yet. But have gamed the TS1/TS1-IM. Put them up against comparable clubs and they are every bit as good, with zero compromise. They're actually better than a lot of the stuff I've hit from Callaway and TM. I think the only irons that felt better were the Mizuno 223/225. Hoping Rick will see this comment though and shell out a couple hundred bucks for a nice sampling of the Maltby irons. He is one of the most unbiased and genuine reviewers out there. Who really seems to care about informing consumers. So, maybe there's a shot that he'd come out of pocket to give them a try.

I think with irons it’s all about what you prefer, when I used to play a lot I played the titleist 714 mbs and they were amazing, for a blade they were forgiving, went miles, could hit all kinds of shots with them, now after not playing for a few years, I started playing a little after lockdown and got given a set of the taylormade p790s, I truly find they are nowhere near as good, the feel and looks are nowhere near what I expected, if I was to play more no way would I keep them in the bag, the only club I find amazing is the 2 iron, for me I don’t feel irons have come a long way in the last 10 years tbh, so maybe the cheaper irons have caught up and its worth saving the money for a decent driver, the driver is the second most important club in the bag now (putter always first) the big brands are untouchable with the big stick

Sorry, this is not open to debate! A purchase based on looks does NOT guarantee anyone hit good or better, the"feel" of club is not permitted on your policy since states "unused" meaning cannot be hit.
