Great information about LAiV warranty service! I bought the LAiV Harmony DAC and I just love it! I'm so glad that the modular repair process is so smooth!

It's lovely that Laiv sent the parts right away. On the other hand, when was the last time an Accuphase product failed in the first few weeks? I prefer the Japanese model to the Chinese in that the product will not fail, and no repairs are needed.

I enjoy listening to your podcasts while on my daily walks. I then look forward to your youtube version of the podcast for further learning. I'm glad you contine to bring back Srajan as for me, he compliments your discussion in a professional and intelligent manner. 🎵

Wonderful words at the end there Srajan, all too true. Interested in the Activo P1, hopefully A&K quality within reach of mere mortals!

In my experience, a Rotel watt goes further than your average watt, if you know what I mean. Whether Rotel under quote power or whether for some reason the amp to voltage ratio is different I don't know.

Some manufacturers are calling out their "true balanced" design architecture in their components. Schitt, Emotiva, etc. Those that don't, but have balanced in/out could very well be "fake balanced." However, running balanced cables between (internally) single ended components can still minimize cable noise. There is one concern I have about "true balanced" architectures, that have twice the components, twice the circuitry (one for each channel in a two channel system) is what happens to the sound when one channel "ages" different from the other channel? One channel degrades more than the other? One side experiences a slight defect that the other does not? Could you end up with something than sounds worse than a degraded single ended component?

Thanks for another great video/podcast. with regard to time and space, start, middle and end, I think you should dive into some 3D spectrum mapping sound equipment where you can compare graphically on it and get used to reading the sound in 3d

Great chat I always learn something when I watch these videos I'm a debut pro turntable owner and I can't see going balance anytime soon all my components are very close together and isolate it well. Plus Peachtree 150 it's probably the best amp I've had in my life so far especially paired with my elac ub5 hard to drive and happy with Peachtree

I'm a big fan of modular designs. I upgraded my Jay's Audio cd2 from mk 2 to mk 3, by simply being shipped the main board and a new display. Took maybe 30 minutes. I bought the original unit second hand and so was able to upgrade it to the latest version very cost effectively.

Had the Sony and sold it. Got a Hiby m300 and it’s fantastic. Costs £179, works great, Google store and runs room Arc just like my mobile. That’s the benchmark for affordable daps

Activo is indeed a sub brand of A&K and its been around for a good while, I have an Activo CT10 from circa 2019, I think I paid £220ish for it. Its tiny so you need nimble fingers to navigate the tiny screen but the sound is excellent.

I'm still an A or AB guy, but the Chinese Class D amps using the TI3255 chip are getting much better. I picked up a Schiit Saga 2 preamp and Fosi V3 monoblocks and they sound very good indeed for the price. Would love to see John take a listen.

David Clark - the company that makes headsets for pilots has electronic noise cancelling models quoted at 30dB reduction @ 150Hz and 23 dB reduction for the passive ones. So Dyson's claimed 40 dB would be pretty good!

Most manufacturers states that the product is Dual Differential or has a true balanced design - if it is truly balanced. So if this is not stated as an sales-argument, we can assume that its not balanced even if it has XLR-sockets on the back.

Hey does Apple Airplay 2 over wifi provide more bandwidth and higher audio resolution then Bluetooth, and if so are there high end Airplay 2 headphones?

I just watched your Airplay Easter Egg video. So I guess I’ll refrain my question: Are airplay headphones higher resolution then Bluetooth headphones? (And thanks brother Thomas)😂

The best thing about that Rotel amp is the back panel speaker terminals stipulate 8 ohm nominal only… sorry Darko I’ll stick with my Fosi V3. There has been a move towards lower impedance speakers. Most speakers in my house are now 4 or 6 ohm nominal. As long as your amp doesn’t set itself alight then a lower impedance speaker is no issue. As we transition to class D amps, impedance should be less of an issue.

The main difference for me in the power levels of Class A/B to Class D is the current they can produce. I've got a cheap Chinese "D" 100w p/ch amp & I've also got a 30w (8ohm) p/ch A/B amp that also puts out 30 amps of current. Thanks to a more substantial power supply, the 30W has much. much more grunt, fuller sounding that the Class D

I also have a cheap class D amp and a 70w high current Naim amp (which I just sold). The cheap class D amp sounds fuller and has more presence than the Naim. I need more connectivity so I'm looking for my next full featured integrated. I have a feeling I'll need to spend considerably more to get something that will sound better.

At 35:40 he claims that a “modern preamp doesn’t need voltage gain”. I DISAGREE! If you have older CDs that are not mastered insanely loud, or if you have independently produced music (less likely) then you NEED some gain to be able to drive to full output.
@richardsinger014 ай бұрын
Isn't full output on any decent amp insanely loud?

re pro-ject / balanced: not an expert in audio/EE, but AFAIK MM just swaps magnet with coil wrt to motion and, in turn, attachment to the stylus, so I would think the MM coils (L+R), though stationary, have balanced outputs (+/-) as does any MC. The balanced technology might relate only to the phono pre’s internal circuitry and processing of MM input signals, ie separately vs ground. Anyone here who can shed that very special light of real expertise on this??

Srajan is fantastic in person when he chats with Darko. Love the analogies and the engaging way he poses questions and explains things. I find it extremely more effective and digestible than the written word on 6moons. Like 2 different people.
@dan-sc7fm4 ай бұрын
Yes, I love his analogies. The time/tone/sound (beginning , middle, and end) signatures using weight shifting and the grass analogy are nicely done. This is the very reason I purposely chose my two audio systems very differently in order to get two very different sound signatures to appreciate distinct qualities. That's what I love about this hobby.

The Dyson review was from Zeos. And their noise cancelation if you can believe it matches even exceeds Apple with better sound quality. It shows you the lack of engineering talent in headphones when Dyson on a whim matches the best. That the HE1 is still unmatched to this day tells you more talent in this space is needed. Regardless of all the hype much better high end offerings are needed so these trickles down eventually.
@gaza45434 ай бұрын
Actually Dyson are tour deForce when it comes to engineering and they are trying to shake vacuum cleaner brand image they take on some very very talented people. It’s an industrial/product designer wet dream to work there and there are only a few places like it. Apple being one, seymourpowell, Lego and a few more these places take on very few people . Make no mistake those people are very much on top of there game in regards to engineering. Weather they sound good is a different thing and someone’s opinion. So don’t be so quick to belittle these people.
