Just checking if Indian phone is compatible in US is not sufficient. My Indian phone was compatible and when I bought a SIM card here, I couldn't make any calls even though Data and SMS worked. It could not be resolved and I had to buy a new phone here.

Us universities don't have placements, they have career fairs it's your responsibility as a student to look and apply for jobs ,companies won't come to you offering jobs (unless someone is really talented/ has workexperience). That is why it's really really important to be mentally prepared for this and have sufficient skills in whatever domain you want to work for. Jobs are plenty if you have skills.
