What i recently did is i have a checking account for bill pay only. And a checking account for groceries, fun, and gifts. In a separate bank, i have a checking account for car payment, and a savings for car emergency/ future new car.

Yes, I always check my spending against my budget. When I stopped doing that, my spending got way out of control. I do find that is the best way for me to stay on track.
