Get my top tips for optimal health and vitality: bit.ly/MarksPicks
As the science of longevity has exploded in recent years, we have more access to innovative therapies, techniques, knowledge, and technology than ever before. Traditionally, we’ve viewed aging as an inevitable consequence that happens to our bodies as we get older. We think that as we gain more years of life, it is a given that we begin to slow down, become less agile, lose our memories, and gain more chronic diseases. We define these things as “aging” when they’re actually signs of dis-ease that can be prevented and often even reversed.
In this episode of my new MasterClass series, I am interviewed by my good friend and podcast host, Dhru Purohit, about creating vibrant, optimal health, to feel younger at any age. We discuss the latest science on whole-body health and longevity and share simple, accessible tips that you can use right now to start feeling younger at any age.
Dhru Purohit is a podcast host, serial entrepreneur, and investor in the health and wellness industry. His podcast, Dhru Purohit Podcast, is a top 50 global health podcast with over 30+ million unique downloads. His interviews focus on the inner workings of the brain and the body and feature the brightest minds in wellness, medicine, and mindset.
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and ButcherBox.
Rupa Health is a place for Functional Medicine practitioners to access more than 2,000 specialty lab tests from over 20 labs like DUTCH, Vibrant America, Genova, Great Plains, and more. Check out a free live demo with a Q&A or create an account RupaHealth.com/.

I love how the interviewer was trying to lay the groundwork of “oh all diets are great” and Dr. Hyman saw through that immediately and called it for what it was. The science says otherwise. I was also vegan for a while, I became super underweight and anemic and did all the things, varied my protein, and was in denial. I love that Dr. Hyman sticks to his guns about things and doesn’t allow people to sway his opinion to appease others.

That shake sounds super expensive. My food budget is small, but so is everything else. I just try to grow most of m6 own food and this is hard work. I can spend hours squatting, kneeling, crawling through my terraced garden beds removing pests and weeds by hand. The compost turning, the shoveling, the scything of hay then raking and loading it and spreading it is my outside gym. I ferment the fresh vegetables for winter because in this cold NE VT climate I can’t even plant until June 1. A greenhouse is in our plans. We don’t grown grains, so they do not constitute much of our diet. Besides, grains are extremely difficult to process when you do it by hand without slave labor. My main protein is eggs. Fortunately a neighbor has dairy goats so we can trade for cheese and milk. We have no budget for fancy supplements. We do however take D3+K2, zinc, magnesium. We compost our own poop for fertilizer. We gather leaves etc. cut abandoned fields with our scythes all to improve our soil. This is all time consuming. We save and process our seeds. This is not a life for the meek or the app dependent.

Mark you are amazing, I've been following you since I was 20. I got into health at 18. I took time away from health and the internet while I was in school and working but when I came back I had to look for you again. I'm 26 now and I'm desperate on trying to figure out how to preserve my youth. I'm on keto now but I'm thinking about doing a Ketoterian diet or pegan. Ofc eating foods from the cleanest possible sources. 😋

Thank you for sharing all your healthy guidelines in every of your podcasts. I’m a 63 year old retired man and recently I discovered that I had colorectal cancer. I’m trying every effort to utilise all the knowledge I gathered from your podcasts to try to reserve this illness. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy is not a solution as these protocols will only worsen the situation. Perhaps you can share what would be the best protocol to pursue in this case. Looking forward to your response.

First, my heart goes out to you. Second, I hope you don’t turn your back on allopathic medicine completely. Once cancer begins (if I was dealing with it), I would do all I could do, including chemo or radiation. Unless you are offered another option, you need something to fight - hard). Once in remission then healthy food choices and fasting will help you rebuild and stay healthy. I hope one day we have access to medicine that will help the immune system beat cancer. The studies are out there - & maybe you can be in one? Keep us informed on what you are choosing to do and how you are doing. Sending good healing energy your way.

Why not eat a diet that’s not high carb OR high fat that most people eat that live to their 90’s? Small portions of Everything as long as it’s a whole food and very little or no processed sugar such as candy, cakes etc, but do eat some carbs (whole foods). It’s called a balanced diet. I’m 77 and feel Great eating this way.

So sorry that your body was in denial. I had severe constipation and digestive issues since a child. I would be doubled over in pain, could not stand up straight. Doc said swallow pill to xray its trek. Said add more fiber. Got worse. Lived by laxatives. Started smoking 10 years and changed metabolism. Quit smoking gained 15 pounds. In doctor for all kinds of ailments. THEN saw inside slaughterhouse by accident at work and bam, vegetarian in blink of an eye. Lost 15 pounds. Vegan in 2017, went from 165 to 125 from 11-15-17 to 12-31-17. No more high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Remain steady weight around 120 age 55. No dental since Jan 2011. Had cleaning last year. Took less than 20 minutes. No doctors. No meds. Vegan saved me. ❤

It's annoying with all the conflicting information because I've heard so much about how a whole food plant based diet has reversed chronic diseases in many people... and this diet includes a lot of grains and carbs

I have even tried going complete vegetarian...no grains, only vegs. I was more than starved, I was totally mal-nutritioned. I think that needs to be clarified...starvation is NOT MAL-NUTRITION. In fact...one can be starving, yet very well nutritioned with non-caloric things. I'm working on a fasting regime right now that includes lots of ACV, ginger, vanilla, green tea, coffee, salt, iodine, omega 3 oil supplements, and a host of other "nutrient" dense foods that "fill" me...until I can eat some protein at the end of my day.

How many of these studies actually take into account the nutrient density of the foods being studied? “Optimal Nutrition Enables Advanced Function in Plants” “If we wish to produce ‘food as medicine,’ this is where the medicine is.” “All plants possess the inherent capacity to achieve optimal health without the use of chemical pesticides and insecticides. [. . .] [P]lant health and immunity is directly dependent on the integrity of the compounds the plant is able to make. . . . “In the fourth and final stage of plant health the elevated lipid levels generated in stage three are utilized to build plant protectant compounds called Plant Secondary Metabolites (PSMs), known more commonly as essential oils. All plants develop these essential oils to protect themselves from ultra violet radiation, insects, diseases, nematodes and from overgrazing by herbivores. Many of these compounds, which include terpenoids, bioflavonoids, phenolic compounds, and other aromatic compounds have anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, allowing plants to maintain very high levels of resistance to potential pests At this stage of nutritional integrity the plant’s immune system has enabled it to withstand very high levels of stress.” -Advancing Eco Agriculture post on Facebook.

Hi there!! I'm also an introvert, so socializing with a tribe is hard. Plus, I am an Eclectic which means one tribe isn't enough for me to thrive. I have many interests, so a "club" that has only one focus becomes boring if we aren't exploring many philosophies, talking about growth and change etc. I love learning, so sitting around chatting with a crochet hook in my hand leaves me really wanting. I'm a hard soul to find absolute contentment and peace...it comes in waves of perfection that I must then alter...just cause it's too stagnant in it's perfection....LOLOLOL

You want live longer ? I will tell you the best thing you have to do . Take your body and your mind from physical and mind pollution, and put yourself in a rural more a like environment ( you are going about to be in charged of growing your own vegetables ). If you are living in the development city environment when you go outside you have to wear protective equipment all the time ( mask, gloves, sanitizer, cover your skin, eyes) .Also look for trustful food in private care growing (don't look for food that came from factories, you already know the content of this food ). Also don't overload your mind with too much information and intellectual work give a break to your mind.
