A Han Chinese traveler met this Tibetan grandpa on her way to Lhasa, Tibet. She asked him some fairly sensitive questions regarding the Chinese government and Tibetan activists who support Tibetan independence. What would he say? Does he want Independence from China?

i can verify that he's speaking from his heart. I've been to tibet as a migrant worker (in 2018) and because I am also a tibetan (nepalese tibetan), some kind tibetans allowed me to live in their homes. Even though our nationalities is different, there is a strong tibetan bond between us. I went here and there, met a few tibetans. I told them that I studied under a school run by the exiled tibetan government because i trusted them. They said they are happy living under the chinese, and that tibet is a part of china. They said only the richer households are still seeking independence. But they all wish the Dalai Lama to be in tibet. Also, not even the rich tibetans who want freedom recognize the exiled government (which wants to be indpendent from religion).

As a Chinese, this video brought me to tears watching it. Western media always preach hatred and say that the Uyghurs and Tibetans in China are bullied, but it's not true at all! We have always used our blood and sweat to help the people in the border areas. One of my elders worked as an obstetrician and gynecologist in Tibet in 1950 and saved countless mothers and children. Before liberation, the maternal mortality rate in Tibetan areas was 5,000/100,000 deaths! This old pastor made a good point that hearts are all connected and sincerity touches everyone.

As a eastern european who saw several Tibetian made forbidden movies, read Dalailama's biography and I am aware of Tibetian buddhism and its meaning, I must agree, that China modernized the region a lot. Moved millions of Chinese people there, burned millions of Dalailama's photoes and arrested million's of those who do not see Chinese takeover as blessing. Some were shot, some were told not to go to their work again, some were beaten, some bullied. Those are facts. And now my opinion: I love chinese teas and tea culture. I love chinese cousine, I admire their hard work, but Tibet wise, I would much prefer to see well kept original look of the city of Lhasa and other Tibetian cities, without destroying and rebuilding it by its standard stuff. Why they did not build another city right next to original one? Because chinese did not want to just modernize, they wanted to eat it and chew it and keep it as attraction. Remember Mao's saying that religion is poison? He neutralised it. From this point of view it is a tragedy. But I need to give China a credit for allowing the religion to go on. But I do not applaude chinese government for denying leaders of these religions. It was a hostile takeover, not just wish for enhancement. Yes, Tibetian lives enhanced, but at what cost? In my opinion chinese want them to function (in a harmless and controlled way) but without any power. Also, new Tibetian generation is completely disattached from old ways, so basically what Chinese did to Tibet is killing its history. That is my point of view. In few years, there will be modern cities in Tibet with sightseeings made for chinese tourists that are dead from cultural, religious and historical point of view. My opinion is that China and chinese people deserve true variety. They deserve to go to places where culture is different within China. Tibetians are not the only subjects of cultural genocide. If you normalize everything, you will end up with modern and prosperous uniformity. I would have done it better. If I was Mao, I would made Tibet crown jewel on Chinese crown. He was too hasty.

@@mdl12321 west after the decolonization period and after the whole political correction trend of cultural protection and representation started became really keen on the idea that all culture is best when they are kept clean and away from the profanity of the larger so called modern society. I think that great, the effort to keep the world diverse after realizing how we raped the whole world with colonialism. But looking at cultures now doesn't all traditional cultures more or less becomes a spectacle any way with exposure to the internet. Also you have to look at the top priority of their country at the time, it was to strengthen the country because the whole 100 years of being bullied by basically everyone, so stability the most important thing. And I would think the fedalism wasn't very good for that, and would be very nice for most people if you had girls raised to be made into human-skin drums would it? Compare the minority culture to the main stream han culture, the han culture would be the one to suffer more losses, like traditional medicines. If you visit the place you definitely won't say they are culturally dead.

@@draekalloy3673Of course I did watch the video. I am not expert in the topic. I may exagarate a bit, but I do that only in a name of some kind if respect for those I secretly love and admire. I would give the tibetian youngsters that later grew to wise and silent older men a credit. I would give them opportunity to save what can be saved. Is it a fools hope? Maybe. People are not always wise and soon you discover that money is all that matters for having good life. I am a romantic soul that needs to live practical life. Some good intentions also may turn into pointless and bloody revolutions and where is is justice in that? I would start with demolitions in old Lhasa city. Demolitions of shops and residences. I would say: look brothers, rhis is yours. We are truly sorry we took it from you. Here you go. Here you have money but only for stones and water, not for plastic and televisions. The longer you wait, the less people will understand what to do with it. It is enough to wait for one whole generation and no Tibetian will even understand what to rebuild and how it should work. That happenned already. So all you can do now is back off from directing them, do the demolitions and give give to them everything while you can, if you do not want dead Tibet. Time is ticking. Tick tock.

Dalai refused to kneel in front of the emperor and hint that the emperor should salute to him instead. Half century ago Dalai visited Mongolia, at the beginning he is very welcomed, but as the Mongolian religious leaders found him more prestigious than themselves, they snubbed him and drove him away, since then Dalai determined to let tibet stand alone. No. We might have cars, but can never travel without there permission, we might have TV but we only watch what they want us to see, in Tibet bars and clubs are free of cause and can drink all night, they want us, young Tibetans to think less about our freedom and our rights, when you visit Tibet, you can see only few speaks in Tibetan, most of them speaks Chinese, cause they force little kids to speak in Chinese, my little nephew, he speaks in Tibetan with all of us until he went to school and his Chinese teacher force him to speak in Chinese, I didn’t realise how we were suppressed under Chinese until I escaped to India, I learned how to read, wright in Tibetan, I learned about our history, culture and i can proudly carry Tibetan flag, and I get access to the news around the world, no one forcing me to learn Chinese, I can speak about how I feel. That’s freedom! If I were in Tibet now, I surely would be arrested after writing this comment, my grandma once visit India I remember that very clearly and when she came back, around 11pm Chinese officers were outside our door, they claim that they saw our grandma lining up in a temple in bhodgaya which is in India, so they took her, it was in January, they didn’t even let her wear her coat, she was in prison for 6 months! Even the largest city, Lhasa, is predominantly Tibetan-speaking. You can see from other KZbins that Tibetan signs are everywhere on the streets. I saw many specialized temples, Buddhist schools, and Tibetan language schools in Tibet. The students there do not study Chinese, mathematics, or physics, but only Buddhist scriptures. Not only is Tibet not oppressed, it even enjoys privileges because of its status as a minority. I have seen Tibetans collecting tolls arbitrarily but the police would not stop them, and some rapists had their punishment reduced because Tibetans have different views on sex.

Thousands of Tibetan children were sent to China last year, separated from there family, just so to give those young souls the mentality of the dictatorship, they were taught Chinese, and the discrimination they face in the schools in China are really heart breaking, just a few weeks ago, a young college girl in Lhasa was arrested by the Chinese officers, they tortured her and now she is no more, the family can not do anything, they asked for the body, but they refused to give them that, and the only reason was she taught Tibetan language to the young children, every time it breaks my heart that Tibetans in Tibet are suffering, but can not show how wounded they are, and it is very hard for the Tibetan in exile to show the world what we have and are going through

In fact, they were happy to finally rid themsevels from U-tsang tibetans. When tibet was not under China, tibet was a part of poverty, filth, injustice, famine, and religious riots. All tibetans respect the Dalai Lama, including myself. But a Chinese tibet is a strong tibet that can challenge india. The chinese tibet is a prosperous tibet. There are some rich tibetan households in tibet who want independence, and they send their kids to india to receive tibetan education and unify the exiled and chinese tibetans. That number is decreasing. In tibet, there is a slow stigma going on. It's not good to support for tibetan independence. Most poor tibetans want to live under the chinese rule.

Indian media is the one spewing anti China propaganda everyday. Also all the Western media. Just because you don't like the truth doesn't mean it's propaganda. There's an Indian couple KZbinr channel name "2.5 Travellers" so by your bias standard this is also a CPC propaganda channel then. So the average Chinese can't be allowed to show the real China? You're just another China hater with deep-seated prejudice.

There's nothing wrong with propaganda, as long as it's telling the truth, isn't it? Go to Tibet and have a look. Those beautiful roads and neat villages, blue sky and white clouds and beautiful lakes will make you give up a lot of hatred and see if it is as advertised.

There are 60 million children of migrant workers in China living either on their own or with the sibling taking care of their younger brothers and sisters or they are with aged grandparents who no longer have the energy it takes to guide a young child. These children only get to see their parents seven days a year as they went to the big cities throughout China to try to EEK out a living. These children are poorly dressed for inclement weather, they do not maintain their cleanliness, they don’t brush their teeth, they don’t get nutritious food. To put this in perspective, the entire population of Canada is 37 million. If so much is one child is seen walking the streets dressed like any of these children or as dirty as these children, and they are automatically picked up and taken care of by child services right across Canada. With 60 million children in such poor conditions, China is raising a lost generation. Thanks to those people who are seen in these videos who give of themselves to these children. The mental anguish that these children suffer is apparent when you look into their eyes and listen to their voices. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXicinuDmLF-aLOc

I don't rule out your statement, but it's not 60 million. It's hard to explain this data. Every country has its own problems, doesn't it?

By that logic, Nagaland Manipur Mizoram Kashmir all should be independent too. They are totally different from India. What to do expect from a refugee who is brainwashed and knows nothing about China but a puppet. Han, Tibetans, all Sino Tibetans and homogeneous. Unlike India. Level of HYPOCRISY

Tibetan culture isn’t unique to Tibet. Large populations of Tibetans have always lived in neighboring provinces of China, and other ethnic minorities have always co-existed in Tibet. Bet you didn’t even know that the grandpa from the video lives in neighboring Sichuan province. China has preserved the cultures of its ethnic minorities better than the same ethnic groups who have their own countries, just ask the Mongols, Uzbeks, Kazakhs and Tajiks (they now speak Russian while their relatives in China speak their original language). You also forgot to mention that before the CPC, your “unique culture and traditions” included slavery for 95% of Tibetans. Many Tibetans were forced to sleep outside with the animals they herded. You want Tibet to go back to a feudal theocracy and its people back to slavery? 🙄

You watch pro-capitalist and pro US propaganda everyday and don't even bat an eye. But one positive story about China or a single individual expressing a positive opinion about the CPC and you jump up and down pointing accusatory fingers like some kind of monkey with a bee up it's arse. lol. Sad.
