She then goes on to say they are focused on making "merit" based decisions, but by definition this can't be true if they are hiring based on superficial and unctrollable things like sex, race, and ethnicity. This is truly evil thinking and has no place in our government. She is the type of person that will put on a big smile as she is using her power to destroy you and telling you the entire time why the things she is doing to you are good for you.......... and good for everyone else too. I agree with what you wrote. This comment is just to acknowledge your pen name, which probably is overlooked by everyone else. Riva Ridge, the 1972 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner, was a very good horse, also owned by the Chenery Stable but usually overlooked by his year younger stablemate, Secretariat, who won the Triple Crown the following year. Riva Ridge was Penny Chenery's favorite, however.
@rivaridge7211

@@suzanneyoung8011 Thank you Suzanne, for your very kind and spot-on comment! Riva Ridge was indeed the "older brother" (I don't mean same bloodline, of course) of the great Secretariat (at Meadow Stable) and was the "Kentucky Derby" and "Belmont Stakes" winner in 1972. The thing I most love about Riva Ridge (besides being such a champion in his own right) was that he literally saved "the farm" (Meadow Stable) in 1972, with his huge "Crown" wins (he had other significant wins, of course). Meadow Stable (where Riva and Secretariat were housed) was teetering on the verge of bankruptcy in 1972 - and it was Riva's outstanding (1972) championship races which, not only kept Meadow Stable solvent, but paved the way for Secretariat's Triple Crown win in the following year. Certainly, Secretariat was the greatest race horse ever, in my view. Incidentally, the lovely Penny Chenery would have had two back-to-back Triple Crown winner's had not Riva Ridge been tangled up on a wet/sloppy track at the "Preakness Stakes" in Baltimore - which he absolutely hated. Miss Penny was a very bright and gracious lady. When she passed in 2017 (at age 95) I truly wondered if anybody could fill her shoes. I am still wondering. Cheers!

Equality of opportunity, not outcome! No "participation" trophies: In every competition, be it sports or for a job, there will be winners and losers. When I retired from the Army, I applied for a position I desperately wanted. But someone else got the job that, because of the leadership skills I had honed in the Army, I felt I was better qualified for. But instead of throwing a tantrum and whining about how unjust the system was, I sent a very nice, polite letter to the Human Resources department and asked why I was not chosen. What skill or experience was I lacking? I received back a very nice, polite letter telling me what I could do to improve my chances in the future. I went back to college, finished my degree and took a minimum-wage internship to gain the experience I lacked. Two years later, I applied for the same position, which had come open at the same company and this time was hired after the first interview! I never worked a day for the next 10 years, because it was a joy to get up in the morning and go do something I loved. That led to an even greater position that I held until retirement! If you want to succeed in life, find out what it is you love, what you need to succeed in that endeavor and get to work making it happen. Don't sit on your hands and wait for someone to give you a job because you belong to a "protected" group!

Martin Luther King wished for a color-blind society. This was a call for equality, which is admirable, and virtually everyone supports this idea. For the most part, America has achieved that aspiration. The modern Democratic Party wishes for a color-coordinated society. This is a call for equity, which interjects unfairness into every area it touches. The progressives try to make the terms interchangeable, but each produces vastly different results. Engineered equity will always produce poor results.

Actually, equity is anti-racism. When people are treated equally regardless of their sex, race, gender identity, religion, preferences, disability, political affiliation, and national origin, all of those are removed from the equation and you’re left with performance-based assessments, at least in the case of employment. That is the essence of meritocracy. Unfortunately, it seems this country is incapable of separating themselves from their baseless prejudices concerning other people, or at least hasn’t learned this on a wider scale yet. People seem intent on painting with a broad brush rather than getting to know people individually and seeing that everyone has their own challenges.

@@RealRyanFlynn Actually, you are completely wrong and just repeating what CNN told you to repeat.. Equity means equal OUTCOME.. regardless of any other circumstance. You can not get to Equity without stealing from others. Equity means the fast food worker makes the same as the doctor. The final result of equity is everyone will all be equally poor and dependent on the government which will control everything, Equity is socialism and communism packaged in a "I'm better than you because I care about the less fortunate" disguise. We legally already have equality. It is already illegal to discriminate based on race, gender etc. Does discrimination still happen, yeah, for sure. But it is not systemic because it is literally illegal so you can't say it is the system. You need to wake up and stop repeating the talking points you hear from "experts". Equity = ownership. Using “protected” groups as a category to evaluate ownership between groups generates the grounds for trying to pit one group against another. That’s the gospel of contention through oppressor and victim. Christ said, “For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another. When I took the test to become a postal worker years ago, if you were black you got 5 extra points added to your test score. If you were a veteran, you got 5 extra points. I made a 92 on the test. The black veteran sitting next to me got an 83 plus his 10 extra points and got the job. Was that leveling the playing field? Was the most qualified person hired?

Whenever you hire or promote people based on their COLOR or SEX and not their qualifications, the workplace suffers greatly and also eventually morale, and work output will also go down and eventually, those people who were hired based on color or sex will be in positions of authority and have no clue what to do. Watch that business go down after that happens.

We need senators that will ask the tough questions, call these people out for their blatant bullshit, and force them to answer a question. Everyone of them just let them not answer and move on. They need to ask the tough question and spend the rest of the time asking the question, over and over, and over. No more just moving on and letting them off the hook.

I worked for a private company that was growing aggressively, and the owner was very profit motivated. He hired only the best he could find, and most hires never made it past their probationary period. At the same time it was more diverse than the general population, and in no way was that intentional. He didn't care about the color of your skin, or the colors on your rainbow flag; he only cared about hiring the best. It was also the best placed I ever worked. Not because of the diversity, but because we were all of high caliber. He built a great team, plain and simple.

It is dismaying to me that we as a society feel it is better to hire someone based on the color of their skin than the skills that they have. Shouldn’t we hire the most qualified person for the job rather than most protected class of persons? By not hiring the most qualified person, we have destined our society to mediocrity.
