I followed your advice and painted the entire interior (walls/ceilings) of my home Benjamin Moore White Dove (flat/matte), and the trim/doors are being painted in Benjamin Moore's Chantilly Lace (satin). It's a beautiful combo; light, airy and all the rooms/areas just look so much larger. When the sun shines the underlying warmth of the white comes out, and when it's evening the white looks cooler with its underlying grey tone. I'm not a pro painter, but definitely a perfectionist and taking the time to do it right. It can be done with good prep, attention to detail and lots of patience. Oh yes - and good paint!

Those are excellent choices for a no color (or, actually -- WHITE, in white LIGHT, anyway, is ALL COLORS, combined. So, a white paint, like Extra White, is reflecting all color-waves back at your eyes, in equal amounts. White Dove reflects back a few hues more than others -- yellow? dark orange? (yellow, red, + black). This is a tiny amount, but, our eyes pick it up because we are marvelously engineered by our Creator.

I hear ya. You can never go wrong with neutrals. It always makes the house looks more elegant. I like the dark colors...but. not over do it. Everyone is different. If I were selling my house, definitely stay away from dark colors.

I definitely agree with you about neutrals being sale for home sales. I personally like saturated colors but it's really important to keep location in mind. Colors vary greatly between the tropics and Frostbite Falls.

I have S-W Alabaster on my walls. Repainting almost everything to get ready to sell in March. Just changed two of the bathrooms from Agreeable Gray to Alabaster. They look great! My realtor said I was okay to leave a couple of the bedrooms gray.

Painted SW Natural Linen with White Flour trim and doors. House is for sale and I receive many compliments. I had it professionally painted and used the higher quality line. It worked best to hide imperfections and covered very well. I have had house about 6 yrs and I doubt it had been painted within the past 15 yrs so I needed a better quality paint. Just something to consider. Also, I have tons of natural light in the house so the Natural Linen is not too dark. Very warm against woodtone floors.

I think you are a spring color person. I can tell from the clothes you wear. My palette is Fall so my colors in my home are fall colors. One daughter is a summer and everything is gray and light lavendar My other daughter is a winter and her home is white black with accents of red and . When I go to their homes I don’t like their colors. My home to me is warm and full of fall colors. Even when looking at homes when I walked in and saw gray and white I ran out! Other homes where it was bright blue bright reds bright colors I ran. I mean the house could be in the right neighborhood great layout great kitchen but I couldn’t get around the colors. It literally made me physically sick. We ended up offering full price on a home with neutral warm white and brown and beige furniture Yes keep it neutral so your potential owners don’t run away

I believe YOU ARE CORRECT re: 'go w/neutrals'. I'm always browsing houses online (we move too often). The homes least appealing to me on a 'blink' level are those with numerous colors, particularly when they are dark or some impulsive 'color of the year' 🤪. Worst is when the owner didn't create any kind of harmony or palette with those chosen colors. I want a home that looks light/bright, like all my plants 🪴 (because you're correct about that too--empty-nester here who can't stop bringing home more plants 🙃) will thrive there. My favorite is Sherwin Williams colors. For me, life is too short. Paint with colors YOU love, even if you do decide to sell. If clean and painted well with good lighting and furniture/color flow, someone WILL buy. No worries.

I will say, I have had houses that the paint was so wild that the buyers wouldn't even come to the house to view it. As soon as we painted it white,,,Bamb...buyers and offers started streaming in. I am a big fan of your videos. Once bought a home with one room painted a cranberry color. As I met people and had them over to the house, many asked about the red wall. Apparently they had been in the house before and could only remember that red wall, and not in a good way. I guess we were the only ones who thought to paint it. Lesson learned that people cannot get past a strong bold paint color.

My grandmother gave us a tri-coloured ice cream when we were kids. It was part strawberry, part vanilla and part chocolate (Neapolitan?). I'd mix it altogether and end up with a bowl of slurry the same colour as 'Nutmeg Mist.' I never liked that ice cream and I HATE that shade of paint 😝

Sorry for your technical difficulties! That cinnamon color is hideous! Lol I did prior SW color of the year, Cavern Clay and Evergreen Fog. Do you think they're too dark for resale? Now I have mobility issues too and repainting will be difficult.

Okay, I am not going to lie, I am not a big fan of Cavern Clay...it would depend on where you are painting it. Evergreen Fog is dark...but I just love it. The two colors together might be a bit too much. I would ask your realtor's opinion. Evergreen Fog is just gorgeous though.

Prep your walls, baseboards, and ceilings. Scrub. Fill the holes. Fix the water damage in the bathrooms. I call painting to sell, priming for the home for the buyer.

I chose Benjamin Moore paint 22 years ago when we built our home. It still looks beautiful. Now that we’re thinking of selling, the thought of repainting makes me want to cry. I have noticed that in magazines they are painting the moldings around the doors, windows and crown the same color as the walls. What do you think? Love your videos! So informative ❤

It is definitely a trend now to paint everything the same color! If your paint is in great shape and is a nice color, perhaps you keep it.

I’m noticing that the highest rated paint by Consumer Reports right now (November 2024) is Behr’s Dynasty, with a score of 96. Benjamin Moore Regal Select got a 68. In my experience, price doesn’t always equate to quality. I used Farrow&Ball’s Estate Emulsion, which costs $80 for a gallon of their undercoat, which you have to use if you want the actual color on the chip, and $145 per gallon of the paint. It didn’t last one year before fading, streaking at the lightest touch and generally looking awful. They vastly improved their quality since coming out with their new Dead Flat finish, which is beautiful and long lasting.

We went with Sherwin Williams White Sesame. It’s a great neutral color that’s more of a warm white (or perhaps a white cream?) rather than a cool white(cool whites can give off dentist office/asylum vibes imo). It looks much more white on the wall than their samples(the sample looks closer to a beige)

Yes, White Sesame is a very beautiful color. Cool Whites are appropriate where there is a lot of wood and warm hues in the room. The color whites make the other elements pop. I do agree with you.

I have sold two houses where I did not repaint the walls that I, myself, painted when I moved in to suit me. It has never been an issue. My first house sold in 3 days; my second sold in 2 months (2008) because they loved the pale yellow walls, the updated kitchen, and the 1980s retro feel; I did repaint the stippled ceilings white myself in that second house. My third house was custom built for me and I had it painted to suit me. I will not repaint anything; I am too old to do any painting myself and will not spend a dime to do much of anything. The buyer should simply make the house their home by painting it how they like it. I am also a designer so the colors are conservative to begin with and no staging is needed throughout the house. Some houses do need painting and staging, but I get really tired of being told that I absolutely have to repaint to sell. My walls have never been dirty or damaged or smudged so why paint?

My issue is that I’ve got lots of windows and light coming into the main parts of my house and I feel like it will look too stark if I don’t give the walls some color. Great question. I don't know the rules regarding paint in historic homes (meaning not sure it affects their historical status). However, if paint color isn't a requirement for keeping the historic designation and you need to paint the home, I would stick to the neutral pallet. I don't mind homes being painted different colors if it compliments the house and its special features or designations..

We hope to sell our home in about 5yrs. I know gray is out, but I love BM Edgecome Gray. I also love BM White Dove. My plan WAS to paint the walls gray and the trim white. If I do this, will I still need to slap new paint in my home? Is 5yrs to long of a time frame? If not, should I just paint the walls White Dove and I will be good to go 5yrs from now?

BM Edgecome Gray is a very warm gray. I don't think you will need to paint your walls again if you go with this color. its not depressing gray. I do like the color as well.

Hello there! Sounds like your color scheme is right on. The Crushed Ice looks a bit grey...but I would let you be the judge of that. What about exterior colors. We'll have our exterior painted in 2025. We have a greige/gray midtone color roof. Neighbors closest to us have 1 green, 2 charcoal (either side of us) and across the street 3 navy and 4 white with blue trim. We were thinking light gray with a to be decided trim color.

Hello there, exterior paint is a totally different deal. I would definitely not go with the same color as your neighbor. I would paint your house a color that compliments the style of the home. Sounds like you are right on track. I would make sure the trim color and main color be a contrasting color. You want to make sure there is a noticeable difference between the two. Otherwise, the house looks like its been painted the same color...not good.

Color, actual hues, are emotional likes & dislikes. Btw, "Finery" is pronounced F-EYE-N - ehr - ree. As in, "I like the FINER things in life." THAT word,"fine", is the root of the word "finery", Audra L. Not "FIN" as in Shark Fin Soup. Not pronounced like "it".

Yeah, that cinnamon slate will never last. Why not call it what it looks like: St. Valentine's Day Massacre or blood wine.
