⭐️ About this Episode:
More Mountains to Climb, More Overheating, A very bumpy road, a Surprise visit and do we miss our 5th wheel?
Planning your routes or at least checking your route is an important part of RV Travel! On this trip to Flaming Gorge I waited till the last minute and then realized we was headed on an extremely curvy and uphill mountain road (Scenic Hwy 191) that many people on blogs have said is not fun to travel on with an RV! However it’s either we go for it or skip Flaming Gorge. We decided to go for it and detach the Jeep to make the uphill climb easier. However, after things starting off well on the way up the mountain it quickly changed. The RV overheated 2 times on us and caused us to pull over to let it cool off. But eventually we did make it up the mountain and the rest of the way to our boondocking spot was easy. BUT then we got to the road to take us to our camping spot and it was over 5 miles of a dusty, washboarded, narrow gravel road. Where I met a camper coming out and we was so close to each other! Then our surprise came which was my sister and her family and we spent the next 3 days just enjoying our time together. Plus Laine and I share our thoughts on if we miss the 5th wheel or not after being around my sisters. Thanks for watching everyone!!
⭐️ If your new Here HELLO!! We are Loftis Party of Six!! LPO6 for short!!

I have exact same year , model and engine as you do and had the exact same overheating problem. There is a solution, I have done it. The engine has a crankcase blow by pipe that "vents" crankcase air out to rear of engine area. Problem is the oily air blows up into rear of radiator slowly clogging it up, especially towards the bottom. Solution is to use Simple Green in spray bottle, spray radiator , generously, from rear, and then wash out with hose and a little nozzel, again from the rear, careful not to bend radiator fins with water spray, may have to do this a couple of times. I did this and have NEVER overheated since. Safe travels.

Rule number 1. Never buy a rear radiator Diesel pusher. 2. Always buy a side radiator. 3. Regardless Simple green is an rv ers best friend. Always rince and flush well.

I love y’alls attitude! Kids need a potty break, eh let’s pull over and give the engine a break. Scratching the RV, eh shows we are making memories. Bumpy narrow dirt road, eh let’s try it and we can wash everything later. You both are doing an amazing job of seeing what really matters and enjoying the highs and the lows. Love the videos, keep ‘em coming. God bless y’all!

Yep. What benused1 said. Pushers are famous for plugged up radiator fins from fumes of oil. Seasonal cleaning of radiator (external) . We have had truck shops steam clean the radiator, but found the best thing was seasonally cleaning the exterior of the rad with dawn dish soap and used a Radiator Genie wand from Amazon to get the corners of the rad. More gunk in the corners than in the middle. Then rinse, rinse, rinse, and repeat. no more going up hills in low gear to keep the temps down Yay !!!!!

I have a 1999 Fleetwood Discovery with a 275 hp engine. I have climbed some really steep hills pulling my 2007 Hummer H3 which is about the same as your jeep. Whenever I climb a hill I keep an eye on the temperature of the engine and as I see it get to the half mark on my temperature guage I down shift to a lower gear. As soon as I do that the temperature goes down. This sounds like what you were basically doing. I think you must have some other problem because you didn't even have the jeep attached. I am sure as you use this motor home more you will adjust to what its capabilities are. You probably know this one already, but I will mention it anyway. Whatever gear you use to climb the hill should be the same gear you use to go down the hill. Good luck.

Also my husband says to make sure CAT clears that code out. Sometimes if you don't the computer can keep sending wrong signals to you. Me and my husband just want you and your family to stay safe and keep making memories. Also he said that on the hydraulic jack that the seal might be bad. But just let CAT look at it. It could just be a simple fix. Safe travels and have fun.

It looks like you have a side radiator. They are prone to getting clogged with road grease and need to be cleaned both sides. This can cause your overheating problem. Power washing with a degreaser is the only way to get it cleaned. Good luck. Love your videos. Frank Osgood

If you guys upgrade again, (I know I keep suggesting lol), try a class a toy hauler. They have a full layout, including a bedroom, plus you could make that garage into a full laundry room/ kids room. I think about that alot. Unfortunately class a toy haulers are still fairly new. It would be hard to find an older one

15:20 I prefer an RV when it is cold out because you can enter through the front passenger door and not lose all your heat (assuming there is a thermal curtain between the front seats and the cabin.

To help with your hydraulic leak, pull the fitting completely out. Hydraulic system fittings use orings to seal them, so it might be tight but will continue to leak if the oring has failed.
@mikelohmeyer8844
@mikelohmeyer8844 4 жыл бұрын
Pull the fitting, replace the oring and see if that doesn't fix your leak. As for your front jack, once you get the leak fixed you might need to bleed the line of air.

In my (somewhat limited) experience with Motorhome - and I have climbed mountains several times - the overheating is not normal. I would say a coolant issue - either the collant itself and/or it needs a radiator flush/cleanout. Since you bought it used - do you know the service history? I would take it to Freightliner if it were me and get it checked out. Good luck and safe travels.

It will work. Although Just to look and what is available go to Camping World and look . Then go to Amazon and order it. The may have them at Walmart , Home Depot or Lowe's. You Definitely need one. But until you find one that works for you use a Bungee cord. The reason I say that because you need to get in and out of the fridge for your children and a small bungee cord will work. Just hook it to the handle of the frig and what ever you can strap it to. That opening and closing is not good for it. Now , thank for taking us along with you to this place . It was beautiful. One last thing. You need to get a RV GPS for real. You put your height, weight and width and length in and it will let you know if you can go on the roads . You may have a bridge that you coach is to high to get under or you weight to much to go over. Rand McNally has a good GARMIN . It makes a world of difference. I still plan my routes with it and Google maps and satellite Goggle earth. Sometimes the going back down a mountain is worse than the going up. You know what I mean.

"Mountain Directory West" and "Mountain Directory East". Those books are invaluable for knowing exactly what to expect on mountain passes. There is an app ($) but you want the info even when there is no connectivity. I know you have been concentrating on the climb, but it's the going down that is really important. A mistake going up damages equipment. A mistake going down can damage people.

Your doing it right slow and easy and if it gets hot pull over and let it idle and cool down. The last thing you want to do is over heat and blow your engine it will be very costly. Keep an eye on transmission temperature also 175 degrees is very good you are showing 219 degrees and anything over 220 degrees is bad. If you are going in the mountains a lot you may want to add a transmission and engine oil cooler to keep your temperatures down. My Cummins engine I do not normally run over 2000 RPMs. I seen in another video you running at 2500 RPMs. Try to keep the RPMs under 2000 and that may help keep it cool also.
@LoftisPartyofSix
@LoftisPartyofSix 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I agree that I need to keep my RPMs under 2k. Since this has been happening a lot lately I started to do more homework on these engines. Currently the RV is in the shop fixing this overheating issue. Im hoping its just the radiator being clogged but I should know today or tomorrow. Thanks again.

You'll are so inspiring. After watch you I'm honestly debating trying to talk my husband into doing this ! We have 4 boys (15, 5, 8, 3) and you'll are living the dream. Really considering it. We would have to sell our home and buy and rv which I'm okay with. Hubby loves camping and nature now to talk him into this 🤔. If you don't mind sharing or I'll have to go back and see if you have any videos on this. How much does living on the road with a large family cost? What do you'll do for income? You tube? Anything else?
