Here is a suggestion for pads under the jacks. I made some wood pads out of 2'X 14" planks cut more or less square with a layer of 5/8 plywood glued and screwed to one or both sides. I added straps so they were easy to move around with my awning hook. I would have moved the coach enough you weren't trying to bridge over the hole the jacks had made. You might make it a habit to clean any dirt/rocks off the top of the jacks. Remember they can come off going down the road and hit your jeep. I have pictures if you are interested.

FYI: I had a 2012 Jeep toad and often had a tough time shifting the transfer case back to 2wd after towing without FORCING the Transfer Case Shifter, what I discovered was after detaching from our coach try to just slightly push the Jeep backwards while shifting the transfer case back to 2wd was much smoother and easier! Give that a try and let me know!!!!!!

OK to offer a suggestion? Don't underestimate the use of checklists. Your drive train problem would have been avoided if you had used a fuel stop to go over the list, one for the MH and one for the Jeep. Takes just a few minutes, as you demonstrated. You just never know when those darned things are going to pop up. You can make as many 'checkable area' lists as you need, as everyone is different. Happy trails!

We have a 40' Diesel Pusher & I keep several different lengths of 2×6 Hickory boards which is one of the strongest hardwoods. Has saved me numerous times when needed. Had the same thing happened to us in our gravel driveway. Don't go anywhere without them now.

This solution is very versatile. You can use 2x12x15 boards to not only get the bigger footprint on soft ground, but also you will find times where you cannot level the coach with the jacks, and you need to put these under the tires and the jacks. You never want either front or rear wheels off the ground when leveled!!

I might suggest you take a broom or brush and clean off the dirt or sand off the leveler before you retract them all the way up. Otherwise you might develop a problem with your levers.

My travel partner towed his Jeep over 200 miles with his transfer case in 2h without any ill effects. My jack blocks are made from 3/4” oak flooring. I made them twice the size of my jacks. I cut the flooring and put the strips of flooring together at 90 degrees with the smooth side out. I attached apiece of rope to each one to help with retrieval.

Dams are fascinating! We went to Bonneville Dam a couple of years ago - found it very interesting and super fun to watch the fish swim up the fish ladder. I CANNOT believe they charge to get inside the visitor center 😡

maybe its possible that pas to some obstacle that with some vibrations made move the gear enough to put on some gear without any moving look if you put some cup with water at some table and you punch it on the table the glasses move until be near of the table and fall down correct? so maybe some kind of this kind vibration made it so next time using some block fixing at some near fixing point to avoid of the gear to moving and change and engine some gear and etc...

When I was your children's ages, back in the 60's, I lived in the Las Vegas area and my folks took me and my brothers and sisters many times to Hoover Dam. The tour back then did not cost much of anything and you were taken all the way to the bottom where the generators are housed and so much more but now the dam is commercialized like so many other things today. That road that crosses the dam once was part of Hwy. 93 that bridged Nevada and Arizona. There was once a line in the middle of the road in the middle of the dam that showed the state line and you could stand in both states at the same time. I didn't see it in the vid so I'm thinking that it may now be removed. It was by far a better place to visit back then. Now they have that stupid bridge that was put up only because of 9/11 and you can't see anything unless you are in a semi or perhaps a class A if it sits high enough...glad I don't live in the area anymore. Way too many people and people drive there like they do in most of California...crazy fast....By the way, you can see that same 10 minute movie at the museum in Boulder City and it won't cost you anything...

For our Class A, under the jacks, we use a piece of wood that's 2 X 8 and about 10 inches long. Course, ours is a 35 foot...a bit smaller and lighter than yours....and we even have a piece of wood, crack every once in a while....We probably will need to have a piece of flat steel on that piece of wood, when we get a chance.... In that soft desert soil, your jacks, just went down, like it was mud..

If you ever go back to Hoover, get in touch with us! I was a federal police officer there for years and could give you a few things to look for that most tourists miss! Did you stop off and walk across the bypass bridge? There are high walls on the walking sides so you don't have to worry about the kids stepping off the sidewalks into the road.

Remove shifter console, clean and lube the linkage and gates. Clean and lube linkages on transmission and transfer case. The shifters should move smoothly and positively settle into the gates. I would NOT call the dealer and inquire about what happened. They will put that in the vehicles file and as soon as something happens to the transmission, You caused it, warranty VOID! Wait to see if something happens and then bring it in knowing nothing about it. The levelers, always pull forward or rearward to solid ground then put your mats down. Try not to set up on top of the holes the jack feet put in the ground. I have buried mine pretty deep also. The thich rubber mats are awesome. You can also make your own with 2 layers of 3/4" plywood cut in 16" to 18" squares (wider for more soft soils). Glue them together to make one thick plate (1.5") then coat them well with a water-proofing material for long service. Happy Trails and ATB!

PUT YOUR SEATBELT ON IN CA $$$ and some CHP will give you a cellphone ticket for that camera. Transfer case will sometimes not disengage just from what you see on the stick. You have to check it even after using 4WD and going back to 2WD...drive it and you can feel it if it is still in 4WD. Slow roll your Jeep to engage/disengage/change transfer case when you are having a little trouble with it. Use pieces of 2x6 for your jack stand pads.

Loftis Party of Six - weROAM After using your four-wheel-drive you will need to check it also when going back to 2WD. While turning, you’ll feel it hop if it’s still in four-wheel-drive. It’s also a good idea if you haven’t used four-wheel-drive in a while to put it in 4-HI and drive it for a few miles and then put it back into 2-wheel drive. It gives a good coating of fluids moving around the gears and your fluids, well...fluids.

We would never go back to a 5th wheel after having the class A! We are able to travel faster and the freedom the Jeep has given us to explore is also life changing! With our big 1ton truck we couldn’t really explore off-road locations and was limited to only Highway attractions.

I told a Wrangler 4 down as well and it is a pain getting out of neutral sometimes. Roll forward or back a little helps and turning the Jeep on and putting in drive then turning it back of can help. Don't force it, there is s plastic bushing that can break and then it will be stuck in 4wd. As for your transmission, get the fluid changed for piece of mind.

@@LoftisPartyofSix One more thing, I have noticed that when the transmission is in Park and the transfer case is in Neutral, there is a warning on the dash that the vehicle is not in Park. I take that as an indicator that the transfer case is in neutral since the transmission is clearly in park. But I feel for you, I always have a little fear of not getting it fully right. On the Jeep forum I am on, a guy said he towed his Jeep 7,000 miles with the transfer case in neutral and burned up his transmission.

Welcome to jeeps. They have a linkage that gos bad and known for that. Also for the Jack's have a cup pad that locks on them and then use level block under that.

Great video....FYI...I have a jeep, one thing I hate about it is the "spaghetti" azz linkage they put in at the factory...it works but I dont like it....some advice ::: quit being so forceful when shifting in or out....be more gentle....kind of feel for it if that makes any sense...also you might get a can of spray lubricant and crawl underneath your jeep and squirt the H... out of the linkage....then ask your lovely wife to move the linkage back and forth while you watch the linkage....squirting everywhere the linkage moves....while she moves it just watch to make sure nothing is bent or obstructing its movement....when you started to shift it it looked like it was in between possibly....ohh and sometimes you (or a jeep mechanic) may need to adjust that linkage but WD40 might help free it up....good luck.. .Ive been to Moab several times an down by Bears Ears....it is neat...Virgin is where they have Red Bull xtreme mountain biking !! Stay safe !!

Go onto Blackstone Labs in Fort Wayne Indiana.They will send you a sample bottle they can analyze and price is very reasonable. They can determine if they is excessive materials in the fluid. I did that for my diesel engine in my 200,000 mile pickup. It came back great so I spent the money to bullet proof my 6.0.

Always check that the jeep transfer case is in neutral by putting it in gear to see if it tries to move. I towed mine in 4W when I thought it was in neutral with the transmission in first gear for less than a mile before my wife saw the tires smoke from the engine locking up from being spun in first gear at forty mph. Warranty won't cover this. My insurance did cover it. New engine, clutch, and cats cost $13,000. I now have a 2015 wrangler with a 2019 engine.

2x10 plank one foot cut off 10x12 works solid even on wet grass and any soft surface , don't use or try concreat stepping stones they break and crush. And they are heavy. With the wood you can even park the motor home on them if need be , If your in a soft ground area, so carry 6 one for each wheel or each levalier , I just put mine in a small size square milk crate works grate , get fir or ash wood though white pine can crack along the grain. And if you wanna be really sure you can screw some 1"wide strips of steel (3 even spaced) on one side of them across the grain not with the grain you can get all of it at lows or home depot etc. They sell steel strip with screw holes as well or get solid stuff and drill your own . that's what I recommend they will cut the metal for you as well if you can't.

Did you pull ahead from the holes the jacks made? Although the plastic blocks did help raise the coach, the blocks look like they sunk back into the holes, which isn't good for the blocks or the stabilizers themselves when one of those blocks cracks.

When I had my 40' DP, I always put 4' x 12" planks under the jacks before leveling. Even with that, once, it pushed a board down into crushed rock on a friend's rock driveway. It keeps the jack bottoms clean. However, the board bottoms needed to be swept off before stowing in a basement compartment. So many little things. My departure and arrival checklists kept getting longer and longer. However, I did reach a point where I didn't run into further problems, so it was worth it. Mistakes in those behemoths are expensive. Once, I started to move my motorhome from one campsite to another in the same park, so I didn't run the checklist. I forgot to retract the big awning on the right side. Fortunately, someone stopped me. It would have been just like in Robin Williams movie "RV". Anther time, I stopped a big motorhome leaving an RV park. He was about 15 feet from ripping off his TV antenna, which was still fully extended. We have to watch out for each other.

I went to Las Vegas several years ago & went on a bus tour to Hoover Dam . The ticket included a tour of the power plant . I rode on an elevator down inside the power plant on a narrated tour . It was very interesting to learn how it was built which took many years back in the 1930's . Construction was 24/7/365 days a year . The bus I was on the inspector did the same that you experienced as well . Are ya's coming back to Florida this winter ? If sowill you be coming to the west coast ? I live on the west coast close to the Gulf of Mexico NW of Tampa about an hour depending on the timeof day & te traffic . Yeah the jacks will go into the sand. Get 2 pieces of 4x4 wood, maybe 18 inches in length, glue them together and use them. Then put your plastic ones on top and you're all good. Zip tie the wood together too

3/4” plywood marine grade. One sheet and cut some 14x14 squares. Screw a strap to it to slide them out when done. Or rope. Linkage on the transfer case probably needs lubed. Plastic bushings develop slop over time. Just do the D to R with the T case in N to confirm it’s really in N. Great video 👍🏼

Regarding shifting your Jeep’s transfer case. I have a 2011 JK, manual transmission & a 2019 JLUR, automatic transmission. Shifting the manual’s transfer case is easy, obviously. I just depress the clutch. However, I experience the same issue you have/had with the auto trans. I’ve found the transfer case shifts smoother if the Jeep is slow rolling. This allows the trans to sync into neutral without much force. Of course, owner’s manual directions should be reviewed and followed.

Ummm, so glad y'all got out of CA without more issues. I've seen other suggestions (re: the levelers sinking into the desert sand) of snap pads; sorry don't know anything about them. But, a couple of ideas popped into my "old" head: 1) find a slab of a "baby Redwood" and use that, or, 2) get some 2x12 or 2x14 slabs to use under the levelers; that MIGHT help. Had a 32ft Journey and that thing would break any plastic leveler I put under it and most 2x material. Finally found some discarded pieces of micro-lam beams and used those. I want to say they were about 2 inches thick and close to 12x12. Heavier than those yellow bricks, but they never broke.

Your description (chirping) makes me suspect that the transfer case was not in neutral. That's what conventional 4WD's do when you run 4HI on pavement. Your difficulty in shifting the transfer case lends weight to that. As far as potential damage, it'd be the same as driving in 4HI on pavement. FWIW - every manual transfer case that I've had was occasionally difficult to shift. Usually just had to shift the transmission in and out of neutral to spin the transfer case a bit so the gears and splines lined up.

It looked like you just put the orange plastic pads on top of the hole you had already created. I would have moved up a couple of feet and then put those pads down to avoid bending them in the middle. Also, as stated by another viewer, snap pads are good for a wider foot print. They are expensive and you might still need to add a base if the ground is very soft, but they do help to keep from damaging the cement or asphalt when you put them down (in case you want to put them down to open a slide in a rest area or parking lot to get something that is not accessible with the slides in [diapers LOL]). I really like our snap pads. I didn't like the price but because we aren't full time, we like that we can put our jacks down and not damage the cement in our RV garage. Also, on the jeep. We tow a full size RAM 2500. I always put the transmission in D and R to test that the transfer case successfully went into neural. This will also let you know if the transfer case just by happenstance slips back into gear. I also ask my wife to make sure the tires are spinning as I move the rig a couple of feet before we start towing. My biggest fear is ruining the transmission in our truck. It was our tow vehicle for many years for our fifth wheel. We now use it as a refueler for our Class A because we have a 60 gallon tank in the back. It saves us a ton of money because we get fuel in town as opposed to the freeway truck stops; though it takes three trips to fill our rig (150 gallons).

I use pressure treated 2x12 wood for jack pads. Inexpensive. Get an 8' 2"x12" and cut in into (6) 16" or (8) 12" lenghts. Now you have a base that is over 4 times the area of you jacks alone. Plus you can easily stack them for extra leveling height. Dan

Me thinks, I'd use a couple of 2x12's (or thicker, if poss) as a base, then the orange levelers; dessert sand can be VERY soft (think "sinking"). True, it would add weight to what you're hauling, but, it would provide a better base for desert camping (espec the size of your rig), IMO. Only a suggestion (mine)! Enj'd the tour of the dam! FYI, the visitor center at the Grand Coulee Dam is free. It's also small, but your kids will probably enjoy it. The dam tour, however, isn't worth the time it takes.

Good morning. About your leveling problem. I have a 40 foot Fleetwood discovery, I got the red Anderson buckets for my coach and as much as I like them they didn't stand up to stress of the weight that I put on them. I believe they were made more for trailers and fifth wheel rv's. So save your self some money and don't get those. Stay safe.

When dad and I were building our house in 1950, a dozer operator who dug out our pond had worked on the Hoover Dam. They had D9 Cats on the face grading it before concrete was overlayed. Nope not me. I keep track of all my towing miles and fuel usage. That 55 MPH dropped my mileage from almost 10 mpg to 8 mpg.

STALL MATS! We use pieces of stall (horse stall) mats. They're about an inch thick really hard rubber, you can cut them how you want them.

Be careful forcing the transfer case back into 2WD after being in neutral. It is a cable attached to a plastic fitting on the transfer case, and you can brake it. I have, and it is $1,000 replacement plus labor. Rock the Jeep back and forth while transmission is in neutral, and it will go back into 2WD easier.

I made my pads with 2x6s two oneway then cross with two more 12” square and screwed and glued with a handle I made four of them. Then I put them under the The levelers and so far they have been working great.

I made blocks out of 2x12. I bolted 3 of them together and put some eye bolts and a string on them. But the footprint is still only 12x12. I always use them and have never had an issue but I not sure it would have worked there. I have a Journey 32

I cut a 2 X 10 into nine inch squares and put three together for my levelers. Solid and strong and gives you a few inches extra so your levelers don’t have to extend so much. Great video and enjoy following y’all. God Bless and safe travels.

That’s why when I tow my jeep I put the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in neutral though I have a five speed. I hope you did not break the parking tab for park but it probably just bound up a little in the transfer case. The reason for not being able to flat tow any car is because the oil in the transmission does not lubricate the bearings when the motor is off so when you put your transfer case in neutral the transmission is not spinning when rolling down the road

Best way to tow another car is to have to car bein towed completely off the ground on a flatbed or a car trailer where the car is strapped up and in park all you have to worry about is the trailor tires instead of everyrhing that can go wrong dragging it behind like that
