100% agree that we should still learn a language in the AI Era, Zoe. For my current job, I decided to learn Spanish instead of relying upon the third-party translators my work provides and I have to say it seems to make a world of difference with the clients we have each day. You should see their faces light up when I'm trying to communicate with them in their native tongue. Automatically, they appear more at ease and seem willing to tell me more things they don't tell my coworkers who use a translator. Of course, my Spanish accent isn't that good (yet), but it feels good to be able to communicate with people on a deeper level as you alluded to in your video. And, of course, the cognitive benefits are always appreciated, haha. Thanks again for your uploads, Zoe. Take care!

Great thing about AI and translating apps is this that you can expand your interest and knowledge beyond of known languages. E.g. I read comics in a language that I'm learning, but sometimes I really want to know what comes next and search for spoilers in chapters that are yet not translated and use those translating apps. Or when somebody on the street ask me something in language I don't know and boom my phone allows us to communicate. AI is a great tool, but it's not almighty. I once asked AI to help me write one email because I was anxious and wanted to make a good impression on the receiver. Although it was in my native language, I only used like 5~10% of what it gave me, but also gave me some ideas for what to write. AI allows for quick fixes but knowing the language lets you to truly express yourself. Even this text was made with help of machines (so many red underlines)

Actually I am thinking of learning Persian on my own so that I can read the originals. I wonder if you happen to know if the Persian in which Rumi writes is the same Persian in use today. I remember one of your six languages being Persian. By the way, Zoe looks awesome in the last fitness video. The result is very very good. Sometimes Google Translate gets the language wrong. When you type an English sentence to your target language, how do you know which words are what? We got Wolfram Alpha for math and science but nothing compares to seeing a math or science professor for help. We should not rely on AI because it will make us lazy. Putting in the time to learn a language can have mental health benefits like warding off schizophrenia and paranioa because you are busy doing something. It's like they say back in the day: "Idleness is the devil's playground."

Zoe, I liked your video. I think AI is great way to help you communicate between languagues. However, I would agree with you; you can never fully understand the culture and the people without knowing the language. There are too many nuances that I don't think AI can ever fully convey. For example, look at jokes in another languages. They refer to culture ideas or worse the are a play on words that unless you understand the language you can't get them. Another thing is idioms or slangs. Unless you understand the culture and language you can't fully grasp the meaning behind them.

@TridgentFrenchАй бұрын
In everyday personal or business life, the direct use of artificial intelligence to interact with other people, such as pulling out your translator in the middle of a conversation, still lacks fluidity and naturalness 😁. It can seem impersonal and unprofessional. Although AI is a powerful tool for productivity and the automation of certain tasks, it has not yet reached a level where its use in direct human interaction is truly integrated or socially acceptable in the majority of personal and professional contexts.

AI can never susbstitute humans for a deep communication. We are humans, we need social contact and affect, and we use the communication to achieve that at work , for friendship, etc. A translator is one topic, learning a language and make a social use of it is different.
