With all do respect, that’s a horrible test for anything but wheel spin .. flat steep slick wood surfaces are not that common on outdoor rock surfaces.. not to mention your tack board was changing degrees when you hit it hard .. “ hey how does my crawler do on 55degree ice” ? You would do better to just take it out to a local crawler park and run some lines and check if wheel weight helps.. a huge percentage of comp 2&3 guys run weight in there Crawlers .. it does help ..

Yeah, I'm one of those guys who is in class 2 running wheel weights🤣. This test was just a way to find out if in an all things being equal-ish situation, would wheel weights help. Nothing more Nothing less. This style of testing the theory was definitely not ideal, but people would be critical regardless of any method used. Thanks for the view and comment.👍 Hopefully, you will watch some more of our videos and give us some feedback.

Thanks brother, you know the brass axle covers in my opinion have been the best! They are super affordable and usually fit perfect. The tires would be considered a medium lol, not too soft but not hard. Thanks for the comment brother.

When you were driving into the ramp after that change, you made the angle steeper. Also, what really matters is the weight balance, 60% front, 40% back. I have weights on my truck but only on the front.

To each their own. If you have the power to move the weight.. why not. My stock scx10 iii kit… just needs metal wheels. I have a clip of mine doing a vertical climb box stock but zero preload on springs with the heavy body. Tune yours to your driving likes but you will never be finished.

After adding the weights, when you made several attempts at the climb, your ramp moved forward, increasing the angle slightly. (6:27) That said, you did drive right up it at 50 degree with the weights. Best to start with the truck on the board then try moving forward to measure max climb. They both did (at least) 50 degrees.. weighted did slightly more, and the tire NOT in the air seems to have more weight in it (tire deflection). Here, you really dont know the maximum for each option.

Wow! That's impressive, I wonder if it will help in the "keeping me grounded" areas. I have just got a new body that will be lighter and less top heavy, but do you think this will help overall or hinder??

I believe part of what you are experiencing is torque twist. The rubber bands will help with that but I don’t get torque twist because of the portal axels have gear reduction.

That's a great point, I got that new bidy now and it looks like the twist is still there a little...But we will see! Also scored a deal on some portal axles!!! Thanks David

Torque twist is the reason for wheel lift. Use transfer case to turn driveshaft opposite directions. Your spare is hitting floor and friction is lacking nothing to do with weights. Very dumb video. Can't believe he talks about competition. Hope is not a strategy. Sorry for being harsh but.

Maybe you didn't see the channel name or don't understand, but where we come from a newbie is someone that's new to something🤦. Thanks for watching, but then again it seems you might not have watched it throughout since we even showed that the spare was not to blame. Weights do play a part in traction, regardless if this method was an appropriate method to test or not. Have a better day, my friend.

Wheel/axle weight on the front will help a little on vertical climb. On all four corners will help the side hill angle by lowering overall cg but not the best option IMO. You have to add a lot of weight to see any measurable gains. Weight is the enemy. Shed whatever you can if you want to be competitive. CG starts at the body. Then it's electronics, then it's suspension. All of those things should be optimized for your purpose to see real gains. All that said, 50 degrees is pretty good for that rig. Your comping a budget RTR. I'm not hatin, just sayin comp rigs are painstaking and purposefully built. You're doin pretty good.
@arkansasrcnewbie
@arkansasrcnewbie 2 жыл бұрын
Kip I appreciate the comment man, you got me thinking I should get rid of the weights now, considering I have a lower body. I think it will help with angled climbs? I also routed everything more centralized on the chassis hoping to keep the center of gravity less spread and more directly between the wheels. I'm not too sure but am learning, everybody has been a big help and just trying to trial and error it, plus come up with content. What do you think?
@dkmgm2011
@dkmgm2011 2 жыл бұрын
@@arkansasrcnewbie I think you're doing great so far. I like your content and I'm seeing constant improvement in your skill level. I've been building crawlers for three years now and I have two masterpieces. One is ten pounds of 4 wheel steer portal axle goodness with a dig unit and giant 2.2 wheels and tires. The other is a 5 pound strait axle on comparable 2.2s. They are polar opposites and unbelievable capable, but they feel completely different. Ones no better than the other (if you have the right technique). Sometimes it takes weight to get one right. You have to figure that out. Every rig is different. Everything is a trade off.

I went with brass inners for my vanquish bead locks to give the wheel its self more weight. That with soft foams makes a more aired down simulation giving you a wider foot print across the whole tire. As for the test i eliminate the traction problem by using a metal shelf like the grated ones allowing me to truly test the max angle as i know the tires will climb. If you want to throw traction back into the equasion its as simple as throwing a bord or something the size of the shelf on top. Love the videos dude.👍
