So many widowed people stay stuck with the former in-laws. The in-laws will never stop grieving. But the widowed person generally, in sufficient time, wants to move forward. If you hang around with your former in-laws, expect they won't be keen on you, the new widower, dating. And many will try to interfere. After dating about 2-3 years, the former mother-in-law was trying to fix my widower up with single ladies from church, ladies she knew and felt comfortable with. As crazy as this sounds, the former mother-in-law was a control freak and wanted to have a say in who he might wind up with, anything to get him away from me. I was the first person he dated and she didn't think it was appropriate that the first person he dated shouldn't be a long term relationship. Our relationship was none of her business but she kept trying from time to time to influence the widower that "it would be best for him to date more than one person".......The family turned out to be fing crazy......Wasted 5 years of my life that I can never get back.

I’ve been dating a widower for 5 months. He just sold his house and he has his own apartment. He’s giving away almost all his deceased wife’s things. He seems to be moving forward with me in his life. He’s still texting and talking to a woman he met on Facebook dating. She’s a widow and he says he is not physically attracted to her. He likes talking to her about what they’ve been through. His wife has been gone for a year now. I told him I would like him to talk to me instead of turning to her, and allowing her to lean on him. She even sent him a good morning text on a Saturday morning when we were in bed. He did not respond, but called her later to tell her he was in a serious relationship and they couldn’t talk or text so much. She was upset, but said she understands. Should I just trust him and not ask him if she called or sent him a text? What I want to do is tell him never to speak to her again. He thinks it’s okay to have her as a friend. It makes me uncomfortable and I think she’s developing feelings for him. I’d like your input. Thanks!
