You tested it wrong, as your test are showing that through the wifi extension it is slower speed, this would be expected thou as it is another device to go through. I was hoping that you would have showed us a area that has very poor connection, and if this device fixed it. Send like you don't understand what the device is for????
@dwilliams20686 жыл бұрын
Small correction, if not already noted in comments. Venders use a small "b" in their specifications meaning Megabits, not Megabytes. That means the true speed is about 10 times slower than generally assumed. Not a big deal but important to know. One Byte is 8 bts but there may be 2 bits added in a transmission system so 10 is probably the best practical ratio.

It's worth buying if you can set it up somewhere with a good connection to the router and to where you want the signal. Some people put it in the same room as the bad connection which does nothing. You have to set it up between the router and the bad spot in the house. You might have to try different outlets.

You know the hard core Tech Geeks that review these devices all say they suck. But most of us are not Tech Geeks and all we really want to see is if the darn signal gets boosted where it's supposed to. Funny how a lot of them don't even test it. They just give you a bunch of tech jargon and tell you why not to buy it. Thanks for plugging it in and showing the results. That's all most of us care about. I'm sure there are a lot of variables that affect how these things work. May not do the job for everyone depending on their setup. It's worth a shot if you're experiencing problems with gaming and streaming in certain areas of you are home.

Yuri, thing is that direct connection to router can be faster from any part of house but it isnt actually what you recive due to package loss wich is detected only after you recive package by CRC checksum or whatever error checking mechanism is used. Repeater has better antenna than smartphone and filters lost/damaged packages so you recive "cleaner" signal from it. Eaven if you view this logically, your smartphone cant have better send/recive speeds to router than repeater due to repeaters antennas, so why does repeater steal that extra speed? it doesnt, it just filters it hence better performance with repeater if it is midway from you and router. better performance in aspect of lower latency and jitter or package loss. due to this package loss, wifi never provide full speed you see in speedtest. all in all it depends to wich AP you are closer, router or extender, you should connect to one with better signal provided that repeater has great signal to router

I bought this extender for when I was down at my grandparents caravan and it worked a treat, before I was getting 1 mbps and it would drop out like crazy but then after I was getting up to 5 mbps which is the maximum speed I could get anywhere on site. Even my grandparents noticed a big difference as before if they were watching something it would buffer a lot and was limited to standard definition, with the extender it didn’t buffer at all and they could stream in high definition. The only time it seemed to struggle was when the weather was bad, I think it was because the extender had quite a distance to the nearest WiFi point and the weather was causing interference. In conclusion I would defined recommend this device especially since I picked it up for only £15 ($19)

NEVER use a REPEATER if you care about Bandwidth, if you have a deadspot in your house and you just want internet access then a Repeater is great; otherwise You do better buying a Client Bridge and another Router and connecting the client bridge to the Main router and use the Ethernet cable to go from the bridge to the 2nd Router, that way you have Full Bandwidth and you are on the same network as the main router. Wireless Repeaters Work but they cut your bandwidth in half because all of the data has to go through a processor and a radio chip in that repeater running 4 functions. The Repeater has to process Upstream and Downstream traffic of data from the Router and also the Upstream and Downstream data of the Clients connected to the Repeater which eliminates Bandwidth by half, practically you have a bottleneck.

Yuiry The problem with extenders is they repeat the signal and degrad it. My original modem was an heiress that had 300 megabit per second throughput. My router was a Netgear ac1750. I used a Netgear dual Channel extender to reach the rest of the house. I was experiencing speeds at the modem of about 85 megabits per second even though I purchased 100 megabits per second. I was experiencing speeds on the router depending on frequency and everything of 20 to 60 megabits per second. After my extender I was experiencing speeds of 1 to 10 megabits per second. I just replaced my modem and router with a Netgear Nighthawk unit. It's an 8 channel bonded unit with both 5 gigahertz and 2.4 gigahertz bands. I kept my same extender and did some testing. Since the modem and router are connected together in one unit I tested the speed at my computer plug directly into the unit. My speed was 120 to 130 megabits per second. On Wifi from the main router I was experiencing of speeds from about 82100 megabits per second. Checking on the other side of my Netgear extender I'm seeing speeds of 20 to 50 megabytes per second. Putting the Netgear Nighthawk in place and being a dual function unit, modem and high-speed router, I have more than doubled my performance and I'm getting what I should be getting out of the connection. For now I am very satisfied with my solution.

What isn't clear is whether the extender is in a fixedposition or if you are moving it arounf. An extender/re[eater is ntenmded to be positioned to extend the area of coverage beyond whast is reliable with just the primary AP. If the repeater is not within the boundary of the primary AP coverage, contary to what most advertising implies, it will NOT provide extended area with reliability or signal strength comparable to that of the good coverage of the primary coverage. If well positioned, you can extend coverage area by about 60% to areas where the primary access point is not usable, with transmission speeds of 75-85 of what the primary AP can provide, becasue the APs are cascaded. For best extension of coverage, if the repeater has an AP mode, use it. Whether connected by wifi or ethernet to the WAN router, changing the repeater AP to a different channel will reduce interference, is improved and throughput. This also gives you the option to add 5GHz operation to a system which formerly had only 2.4GHz.

Question, If I am connected to the main router and I move to an area where I have the extension, will have to disconnect my smart phone from the main router and connect it to the extended.? If every time I move around the house and I have to be connecting and disconnecting, really, that is not very helpful. What makes sense to me is that the extension repeats the signal of the main router and the equipment around the house recognizes a single signal.

The point is, how far away have you placed the extender from the main router. If your extender is in close proximity good results are expected. But where did you place the extender in distance, after all extenders are required for distance?. This is why they're called 'wifi extender'. Other than the master bedroom, you're testing in all the places you seem to be able to obtain a quality connection without an extender. What's the point in that? Other than the missed required info, good video, clear and you speak well.

Any difference if you ran a cable that extender (assuming it's reasonable tondo so)? Another vid said connecting an extender wirelessly reduces bandwidth. Clearly there are pros and cons but just curious how different if at all.
@JoshDub787 жыл бұрын
If you plug directly into your modem you will get your 60Mbps. When you connect wireless it reduces by about half to 30Mbps. The point of the extender is not to boost your wireless speed from 30 to 60, but to extend the 30Mpbs to areas that are getting 5Mbps or 1Mbps, etc. It boosts the wireless signal to get that wireless speed farther away from the main wireless router. Again it extends the speed, not boost what is coming in to you house. And again, you only get 60Mbps if you plug directly in to the modem via Ethernet Cable. As soon as you connect via wireless router it drops to almost half. The extender takes that half and extends it. As seen in your Master Bathroom.

Have you tried connecting an Ethernet cable into the extender for a computer that doesn't have WiFi hardware? For the most part, it does bring much needed connection to my computer, but just today while I was downloading Fortnite, the connection would fail, despite the extender showing all green and being connected to the computer with an actual cable. I'm just wondering if you or anyone else has had this issue as well...
@enufots46216 жыл бұрын
I don't know what Fortnite is or how big the download is for it, but in general although you have a wired connection from your computer to the extender...the connection from your extender is still wifi (over the air) to the main router. What this means is that data sent from your computer (or vice versa) has to go from your wired connection to the extender and then over the air (wifi) to the router to the Fortnite server and back. Wifi is never as reliable as a wired connection, too many things can interfere with the signal going over the air and therefore there is plenty of overhead of retransmission due to dropped data packets (dropped packets are transparent to you) but the equipment has to retransmit all the time and your download/upload may fail. That green LED won't account for it.

@craiggilchrist42233 жыл бұрын
Dont get Mbps confused with MBps If it in lowercase its Megabits Per Second if its in capitals then its Megabytes Per Second. So 100mbps would be 10 Megabytes Per Second and so on. Just move the decimal point one to the left should give approx conversion from Mb to MB.

If I connect a LAN Cable. Do I need the password for the extender? Cuz Im just want to use the wifi of my workplace and it has no xfinity hotstop so I was thinking of using these instead
@macpdm6 жыл бұрын
Thanks got the same extender but cannot get it working
@adew4u2enjoy5 жыл бұрын
also noticed the bars on your phone didn't change. So it seems the extender seemed to make no diff or worse. Also like already mentioned, please do a test before and after of the areas that have no or bad wifi.

Youre paying for 60 megs? Test on a wired pc to the modem you should get it then. Wireless may tend to show slower rates. Also depends on time of day and network traffic. But glad to see the extender works well. Most of the time people lose quite a bit of speed on an extender.
@Zanewv6 жыл бұрын
As far as speed, you need to contact your internet provider if they gave you the modem, and upgrade to a newer model, old internet boxes are slow

I always wondered how many times you can extend a wifi signal. for example kept connecting a repeater to a repeater.
@yurka237 жыл бұрын
HaiLsKuNkY it would probably get slower and slower and slower xD

Tbh kinda depends on if you are using 2.4gig or 5.8ghz as some cheap extenders only have 2.4gig which is slower than 5.8ghz

Jesse Olivares are you using your home wifi in the rv?

how did you rename the wifi extender and how do I put password or does it have the same password as my original wifi? Thanks.
@Erin-Thor5 жыл бұрын
You might want to explain how to use your phones WiFi strength indicator to determine the range of your original WiFi, so you can put the WiFi extender in the optimum location.

Does it work with all routers ? I have xfinity
@nehuge5 жыл бұрын
So Yuriy, when you wander around the property and get closer to the main wifi than the extender, does the device know to connect to the main wifi again? In other words, do you connect to both initially and hit 'connect automatically' so when it gets to the other one the device will switch to it?
@chrisf54756 жыл бұрын
I don’t like the idea of extenders that are essentially a separate network... as most devices are mobile now it would be a pain to select the extender when you go into that area. You would obviously want to use the main network if you are close to the router. There are other devices that simply extend the signal rather than creating another network.
@jamesfei61756 жыл бұрын
Can i set up a private password just for the extender? Like only authorized people can connect the extender.

I don't think so

What can I do if my WPS button doesn't work on my modem/router?
@yurka236 жыл бұрын
Corey Dorsey try holding it down. If it doesn't work then probably refund it.

Yuriy Grishchuk Thanks. Great tip. I didn't hold it down long enough the first time I tried it. It works!

Speed is more than the normal router or the speed is same
@mrmotofy6 жыл бұрын
A Ubiquiti Access Point is gonna give a better signal over all. Many newer houses have Cat5e in the walls to a phone jack. Which can be rewired to connect back to a switch which is also connected to the router.

How do I create a user name and password for the wifi range extender
@yurka238 жыл бұрын
you shouldnt need a username and password, the name will be your wifi name with EXT at the end. and the password should be the same as your original wifi

Does anyone know the song playing in the background of Yuriy's video???
@paulsiangg4565 жыл бұрын
The issue with using your phone as a speedtest is that depending on the phone. Your speeds may be throttle due to the speed limitations of the device.
@yurka235 жыл бұрын
You're right! I didn't think about that.

so if I put this in my room for example will my WiFi be better in my room while the main WiFi is in the living room and will it be faster?
@yurka237 жыл бұрын
You want to put it between your room and the living room. Because what this extender does is it gets information from your main wifi and shoots the same information out further so you still want it to have a good signal with your main wifi. Does that make sense?
@crankyboiy7 жыл бұрын
For the extenders with ethernet plug ins, do they get work just like pluging in a device to the main router that reach maximum speed?
