I made some more tests and I checked the service menu today. They did way more than just disable permanent power to the outlets. They also put a hard limit at 10A. Before I plug in the River 2 Pro, I see 15.50V at 1A consumption. When I plug in the EcoFlow, it goes up to 10A and drops. The River 2 Pro goes higher than the set limit (which is 4, 6 or 8A) to test and then go down to the configured limit. This is enough for Tesla to drop the power. I have opened a ticket to EcoFlow given if there is a limit it should not go over to test ! That means in the current state, even when driving or in camp mode, you cannot have a device that goes upper 8.5Amp even for a second to make a test. Tesla will drop and reinitialize. This is most probably a way for Tesla to ensure power availability for internal systems when required. Beware and verify your fridges behavior even while driving or in camp mode. This is a totally unacceptable move from Tesla. Given the manual clearly states the outlets can provide 12A continuously with peaks at 16A, the new limits are outrageous. And after two Tesla, the next one will definitely not be one. Too much disregards for customers. I'm in a country where legal action for this kind of stuff is a utopia. So if you are in the US, want to make some tests, and raise the legal issue of lying to customers and changing terms unilaterally, be my guest. You might help a lot of disappointed Tesla owners.

This has already been a huge hassle. I use Model Ys for limo service to keep client's wine cold in the fridge, so it is a huge problem. Right now I have to use camp mode set as the same temperature as outside (to save battery) and remember to lock the door and I can't use Sentry mode so if my clients have their valuables in the vehicle I can't check on them remotely any more. I use the Model Y because it saved me from having to do a lot of aftermarket work to get the vehicle ready to take clients. But this takes things back a bit. I too agree with a toggle, in fact, I wanted to have them add one anyway that I can keep on the outlets at all times no matter the situation of the car.

@@creolerican LOL yeah I get that, but however I keep my car makes them feel a lot more luxurious than mostly anyone else. It's been my thing for over 20 years and I am not quite sure why but every single person that gets into my Tesla (and every car I've owned before that) is that my car just seems a lot more luxurious than anyone else's. I will also note, the white on black version is the one that gets the most amount of praise, even with the Model 3 I used in the beginning. For the record I also had a white Model Y with black interior and that got markedly less praise, so those white seats are key. Also, most companies use 2017-2018 Suburban style vehicles for the same kind of service, so my competition is not exactly that luxurious to begin with. Limo aka Black Car services typically have to use older cars to make money so it is 'supposed' to be about the service...though that too has fallen deeply thanks to Uber/Lyft making everyone feel that they can run a car service business. Overall though, anyone who prefers a smartphone over a traditional phone seems to think cars with big screens are more luxurious, even if they are from Kia.

Not only did the change brick your cooler, it also bricked some nice features of S3XY buttons. Being able to pop the frunk using the exterior door handles won't work since the commander module is not powered on while standing outside the car. While this is only true when the S3XY commander module is installed in the rear of the console, it can be fixed by reinstalling it under the dash up front. This presents a conundrum if you (like myself) are also using a Teslogic display which also requires the use of the same plug under the dash to pull data. I use a Bluetti EB55 power bank to power everything including a power-hungry Verizon MiFi Hotspot box to provide WiFi for sending dash cam footage to the cloud. This also provides WiFi connection for a stand alone cell phone which is running the JBV1 app as a powerful companion for the Valentine V1V2 radar detector. I realized that the 12V socket charging wattage was cut in half thus, now not keeping up with the power drain form the EB55 like it used to. So, now I will need to use a 110VAC Bluetti charger about once per week to give it a boost. What a mess. I just don't understand why the X and S are unaffected.

Thank you for bringing attention to this. Tesla really needs to fix this and restore functionality that vehicle owners have been using safely for years now. Tesla also very seriously needs to consider how it handles these types of changes in the future. It is extremely disrespectful to existing vehicle owners to slyly remove a feature without ANY notification other than a silent update to the owner’s manual. I’m very bitter about this change and the manner in which it was rolled out, and it seriously has me reconsidering ever purchasing another Tesla in the future.

In May 2023 I purchased the ecoflow delta 2 max (link above-apparently you can’t post a link it got deleted ). They had a deal with 2 portable solar panels that also made it eligible for a %30 discount off my taxes. It came with a 12volt charging plug and the app allows upto 8amp or about 110 watts of charge. I purchased an extra 12 volt plug and a 12 volt extension so I can use the front plug simultaneously- I see via the app (bluetooth) that I get as much as 157 watts of charging. The app also shows the power draw of the bodega which is as much as 110 watts. With this solution I see about a 15% Drop of charge in 24 hours on the ecoflow. I use the tesla app and remotely turn on the hvac and leave it on for the full two hours and it typically fully recharges the ecoflow I use the ecoflow for tailgating as well powering an electric grill and keurig machine. The ecoflow can rapid charge from any 120 volt plug as well

The tailgate has two more 20 amp 120 volt outlets and a 240-volt outlet. I just traded in my model y dual motor long range for the cybertruck. I was using a compressor fridge freezer off the rear outlet like you were. At least for cyber truck owners. If they have a compressor fridge freezer like I do it can run on 12-volt or 120 volt. So I can work around it by using the 120-volt cable into one of the outlets in the Cyber truck. The 120 volt outlets and the USB C's remain online if you keep the beds outlets turned on in the interface.

However, the current 12V power setup in the Tesla cuts off power to these devices when the car is off, which causes the connection to drop. It’s frustrating because Starlink takes some time to reconnect once the car restarts. I’m not running high-power equipment like refrigerators-just a low-power device for consistent connectivity. Tesla really needs to address this, perhaps by allowing a lower amperage draw on the 12V system for these types of devices. Throttling the amperage for those who abuse it could be a fair compromise. There is supposedly is another workaround. Although they didn’t tell anybody about this change, they did update the online user manuals. One of the things it says, although it’s written horribly, is that the outlets will stay on when the car is being charged. Can you do a test and check this?? So if you are at a place like a campground or a hotel and you can plug the car in to charge, and the outlets supposedly stay on… can you do a test like that? Here is the text from the manual….. “Power is available when the vehicle detects that a user is present. A user is considered present when a person is in the driver seat or interacts with the touchscreen. Power is also available whenever the low voltage battery is being charged or is in use, when you charge the high voltage Battery, or when the vehicle is communicating with the mobile app. Leaving an accessory plugged in does not deplete the low voltage battery.” What is interesting here is that it’s been updated in the legacy model 3 and model Y, but the highland model 3 still has the old message that says that power is available. Anytime sentry mode is on. This would be good to test because it would be at least one way that the power outlets may stay on.

So many things wrong about Camp mode (and camping with a Tesla). I'm currently camping. I own an Ecoflow Glacier. Doesn't fit the sub-trunk, but fit my needs. It has a removable battery. So that's a good point now. I also own an Ecoflow River 2 Pro. Previously, it would get 160W from the 12V outlet (which is a 12-16V for instance) which can handle 12A with peaks at 16A. The Ecoflow has an automatic mode (car/solar charging) and 160W is normally for solar. But still, it was stable at 160W. If I force it to car charging, it would reach 110W steady. Since latest updates, I get mad with the instability. In Car charging, I can select the max amp from the River 2 Pro. Max being 8A. When I set my River 2 Pro to 8A, it reaches 128W, then go down to 110W and ... should be steady. But now, it drops after some seconds, and start again. To get a table charging, I had to go down to 6A which is a huge drawback on my hope for power autonomy. My 800W River 2 Pro is exactly what I need a day for autonomy. But now, I need to juggle with opening the trunk, enabling/disabling camp mode, opening doors. For a hope to get a full charge in the morning. I have to say I do not sleep with camp mode on, because it drastically dries up the air in the car, and my doc and I end up dry mouth, and thirsty like hell in the morning, with sometimes a headache. I just wish indeed I could enable/disable the outlets at will.

Best solution for right now is to use a little buffer power station. I bought a EcoFlow river 2 for just over $100. Plug in the fridge into the battery, then plug the battery into a 12v socket. As long as you drive for an hour or more a day, that is enough time to charge the battery to keep the battery charged, and thus the fridge powered. Also can use Tessie or another 3rd party app to set automations for camp mode to turn on for an hour or two to charge the battery, as well as lock the car.

PS: Returning from holidays I drove for 2150km. The electricity costs were higher than they would have been with a diesel car. I don't know about the US, but in Europe, the charging station providers and electricity providers must have some kind of cartel, selling charge kWh very expensive. In supercharge (150kW and above), the price is usually between 0.7 and 0.9USD a kWh while if you charge at home, it's more like 0.2 to 0.4. Anyway. This is not directly related to Tesla (The superchargers still being the cheapest). But I'm in a rant mood ;-)

Plugged my heated coffee mug into it shortly after taking delivery on my M3LR and the device went into protect mode! Too much voltage! So, instead of consumer accessories damaging circuits in the car, the car can damage the stuff you plug into it! LOL. I don't own a Tesla, but I found this to be an interesting video. I have a Honda Pilot that has 180 w 12 v outlets in the front and back, and I use them to charge my power stations (I have a Jackery 1000 and an Ecoflow). I use 300 watt pure sine wave inverters on both of my 12v outlets and it has been working quite well for me. I connect my 12 v refrigerator to the Ecoflow and it will power it for about two days. The Ecoflow is nice in that it will charge at over 600 w when plugged into a 110v outlet. It can fully charge in less than one hour. It seems odd to me that Tesla has a problem with their USB and 12v outlets as they should all be on separate fuses. After changing fuses enough times this should be a self curing situation :-). BTW ... I have one of those Igloo thermoelectric coolers and they are much less energy efficient than a 12 v compressor refrigerator. The Igloo cooler that I have is the same as yours and one of these days it is probably going on a one-way trip to Goodwill.

I used it sporadically to charge my drone/DSLR batteries during longer shoots, so that I didn't have to care about powerbanks. On the other hand, there are so many stories around the internet from people having to replace their battery 2-3 times under warranty because they turned their EV's into homes on wheels. It was pretty obvious (at least for me) that Tesla was going to cut it off, one way or another.. 8 years or 120k miles warranty, so they expected you to use the battery to actually drive the car and rack up the miles, not just running all kinds of AGD stuff 24/7 from the cars battery LoL

I support a seperate toggle to keep 12v outlets and USB both powered when you leave the car without needing any seperate mode enabled. If you don't have anything plugged in there is virtually no impact on car charge level. Power ratings of the car 12v circuits would not change and unlikely overloading them would do what occurs on any car. Tesla could choose for them to automatically reset after period of time and display a message on the screen both when enabling this feature and if a circuit is tripped. I setup seperate batteries to power my refrigerator but they need to be recharged every few days depending on in car temp. When I had a prius they were in parallel with the factory battery and charged when the car was driven. Not practical to do it that way with my Tesla. So 120v AC battery charger is most practical. It is much harder and requires knowledge and skills AND research AND purchase of necessary things to charge them via the cars 12v system when the car is in use. Still isn't charged with car off. Charging them via solar panels is also an option though it gets elaborate and bulky to bring along and isn't reliable or practical without ideal conditions over a long period of time. The best solution is Tesla providing a toggle to keep 12 outlets powered on to directly supply the 2.5 amps drawn by my refrigerator only when compressor is running. This toggle feature necessitates the DC to DC converter to remain powered at all times to maintain the cars 12v battery charge and power the 12v accessories.
