I think people confuse being an introvert with being shy. Introverts can be very social, they just enjoy being home and having their solitude more than others.
@Kate98755

yes, introverts recharge with alone time. Social time with friends or family can still be draining to our energy, socializing with people you barely know or don’t know, completely draining….but nothing to do with being shy. I’m an INFJ, what type are you ?
@truthtalker4038

Yes people do confuse them, but these guys understand it. Introverts get drained by people and events, while extroverts need people and events to charge themselves. Of course there is more to it than that, but that's the gist of the differences. Yes people understand that introverts enjoy going out and being social, just drains them quickly, and they need alone time. Some extroverts don't like to be alone.

On the Myers-Briggs, I'm slightly more introverted. It's comfortable for me to be friendly and talk to strangers one-on-one. I enjoy being in small groups of people that I know well, like my family. As an introvert, I NEED time alone to feel re-energized--and that's the key to understanding I and E. Extraverts NEED time interacting to feel energized.

People misconstrue introversion with being shy, quiet, unfriendly etc. It just really means that social interaction is draining and we value our alone time to recharge. Unlike people who want to go to parties or concerts and are energized by being amongst the people and soaking in the collective vibe, we'd rather have a small get together with close friends and then go home at a reasonable time so we don't regret ever having gone out at all 😅

The best explanation I’ve ever heard of introvert and extrovert is; extroverts get their energy from other people and introverts have a certain supply of energy and they give it sparingly and must recharge by being alone.

I'm a newly diagnosed Autistic Adult of 39 years. I'm a forgotten generation. I don't like talking to new people, talking on the phone, changing plans all of a sudden. I don't like going to the store with my kids. Amongst other things. Being alone in my garden is my jam. 😆 Autism is such a broad spectrum. I knew something was up for many years but I didn't fit the "normal " Autistic mold. I look "normal". I don't shut down or melt down in front of people. I'm not handicapped. I can survive on my own. I can look at your eyes and work the room. I learned to mask. Females are far better masking our autism than males. I'm learning me again because many moons ago I was told to sit down and stop talking. To look "normal" and be calm. To interact with people, stranger that you don't know and NEVER will know. I'm not neurotypical and the stigma of autism is still there. Hopefully one day that stigma will no longer exist.

Don’t change anything about the way you do your show. Obviously people love it like it is. I’m referring to the comment someone made about perhaps doing a show about lawn maintenance and you were commenting how your show was just about your days in the garden ( or shopping with mom or a cooking something delicious)rather than just one subject per show. I never watch garden shows but I stumbled on your show and immediately fell in love with the show and love watching every morning. You start my day with beauty and joy and family. So many people feel that way. You might say it’s not just a gardening show but rather a show about a gardening family and their community ( and their cats). One of the great things about your day ( each show) is that you are often doing more than one thing and the variety in each program is great. The thought of this show ever going away - well don’t even want to think about it. It’s just perfect.

🍂I agree with you completley, except that I would not call it a "show" since they do not plan and execute what they are showing. They are documenting how their daily routine goes via video and edit that video to keep it at certain length and fix any frames that need fixing in order to make it looks smooth and continue. So I would say: "I stumbled on your 'video'..." Please do not take offense on my comment. 🍂

I have had good luck getting rid of vines that are in shrubs by pulling the end of the vine out of the shrub (don't break or cut it), putting it in a zip lock bag, spraying the vine inside the bag with an herbacide, and then closing the bag around the stem of the vine. The vine inside the bag takes up the herbacide and it kills the roots of the vine so it doesn't come back but the shrub is protected. You have to be careful not to get the herbacide on the shrub or let it run out of the bag onto good plants, but it seems to work well for me.

We planted my Dad’s land with 40,000 white pine trees in central WI. They were small 2nd year trees. When we took them out of the box we unwound them then cut about 3-4 inches off the roots before planting. That’s what the arborist instructed. The roots were still better than 12 in’s long though. We lost very few trees and then only in a really sandy dry soil area where nothing likes to grow. Trees might be different than more tender plants. There was only 5 of us who planted them and 3 were my and my sisters 3 teenagers. It was an Easter break project for 3 years. 🌲

you both are so on point regarding arborists! in fall 2018, i provided recommendations to a client reding two redbuds in dire need of attention. "thanks, but my sister is an arborist and she said there's nothing to worry about, they're fine." 3 months later, the first morning of snowmageddon, i received a frantic call and photos; one of the perfectly fine trees lost 7 limbs into the street, on the sidewalk, onto 4 cars, and 2 limbs fell onto a sloped garden, dragging the entire garden down the hill into the sidewalk. because they're also friends, i couldn't help but ask if her certification was part of an arborist in a box kit from amazon at 2 in the morning.

Laura, everything you said about your personality I sooo relate to: names, events, details that are not important me … but I love talking to people especially with shared interests.

I think what Roxanne was referring to was the tree placement. Looks like the one huge maple you took out because it was broken was in a different spot. I had the same thought, but although I have to say I like what you got going on now better!

You could try asking in the Spring and Summer for jar donations....Just a local thing at your parents store? And maybe a piece of masking tape with a name, might give you a late Summer bouquet? Just a thought

I, like many others, love the lawn that has been planted and the drone shots. Especially those of us that live in California and have been requested/asked to remove their lawns do to drought!!! I remember how fun it was to walk barefoot on my lawn, etc. Thanks

I used landscape fabric when I had a dog that loved to dig. It worked great for that. But when I removed it a few years later - it was like the dirt was dead. No earthworms, bugs or organic material and plants didn’t do well. Still working on trying to get the soil healthy. I think it’s great to use in areas such as walkways under gravel where you won’t plant.

Aaron, my husband highly recommends Volt Lighting. We have had their landscape lighting for years and love it! Volt’s customer service is top notch!!! If we have any problems with a fixture they will replace it. P.S. your grass is beautiful!

I have to say I agree with Pattern and Craft, I noticed as soon as the tree was planted that it didn’t look as centred as the other three! 🤷‍♀️🙂

I think it looks like that for two reasons. One tree has boxwoods in the space and the other one does not. Also the bottom of the tree is so similar in color to the ground, it makes it look off.

Butternut squash also makes a great pie. You can use it like pumpkin or switch up the spices with it.

In your hedge you could have put down brown carpenter paper or cardboard under them. Then replenish the papers when putting down compost or mulch. Also works as well as fabric. When I mulch my flower beds I also use brown paper bags then mulch. Works great and you can recycle your bags. Jars: ask the ladies that where with you to save jars. That way they are helping in many ways.

For manorborn1 here’s a buttersquash recipe idea: Bake or boil some butternut squash and put it in the blender with chicken broth and Boursin cheese, I recommend the herbed style. (Boursin is a soft, boxed white cheese usually found with the specialty cheeses). Adjust for desired thickness. Serve warm. Measurement suggestion- 2 cups cooked squash, 1 cup broth, 1 package Boursin.

I think I’m you. As a retired garden designer, it took a lot to make myself meet people. Presentations and classes/lectures were so difficult up to the moment until the question time came up about gardening and their own issues. At that point, I would feel more comfortable, more at ease and ultimately excited to talk to them and help them out since I was familiar with solving some of their problems. I think giving them answers one on one definitely help create rapport with them and also relaxed me. Knowledge about a subject totally helps! (Definitely an introvert with a some shyness thrown in. 😳) Thank you Laura for sharing your thoughts. Nice to know I’m not alone!
