As someone who has spent a lifetime reading Burroughs, Trendmasters Tarzan is the only one that ever had book accurate characters and aliens. And it’s the closest we’ll ever get to a John Carter of Mars toyline.

For the last 30+ years I have been trying to remember the name of the Mad Max looking trucks that were on the top shelf of my local ShopRite as a kid in the freezer section of all places, I remember them being so damn cool but never asked for one....Thank You Dan for letting me put that mystery to rest lol

I remember those Egg Animals from around '88. Don't know if they were knockoffs or what, but they were cool. Back then it didn't matter what something transformed into. I loved Rock Lords too.

Man... your Meteorbs story reminds me of the time about 10 years back when I was at a place called Great Escape in Nashville. They aren't specifically a toy store, but they do tend to have a lot of toys, and that day they had a near complete G1 Starscream and Hound in their display case. The dude at the register was busy with a line, so I just waited, and while I was waiting another fella came up and waited. For whatever reason, when the dude came to see what we needed, I let the other fella go first even though he said I was first, thinking he looked like he was a little more ready to go than I was and there was NO way he was after the same thing I was... but he bought the Starscream. Literally right in front of my eyes. And it wasn't even for himself, but for a buddy who collected Transformers. I still got the Hound, but... so sad.

This happens to me at a toy show in New Jersey once (might have been NJ Toy Con?). A vendor there was at the Long Island Toy Show a few months earlier and I was looking for a PVC "Pammy" from Shirt Tales to complete my collection. At the L.I. Toy Show she didn't have her, but would keep her eyes out. So I see her at the NJ show and see she has a PVC Pammy figurine on the shelf in her booth. I wair behind the guy who is in line I front of me and see him point towards the Pammy figurine. My eyes go wide and I'm thinking to myself "Whoa whoa whoa! Is he going to buy that!?". She picks it up, hands it to him, he pays her and walks off and I was like "Son of a @#$%!!!". I walk up to the booth the woman smiles recognizing me and then in less then 10 seconds it hits her. Her eyes go wide, she turns around sees she sold the Pammy to someone and turns to me going "OH NO!!". She had just randomly come across one in-between the time I saw her last and I had no idea she was exhibiting at this show and she had no idea I was going there. She apologized but I said it was OK as neither of us knew the other was going to be there. But man, what the hell kind of odds for some other person looking for that the same day as me??

I remember those tarzan figures. It seems like every discount store had the weird toylines no one bought. Johnny quest, tarzan, godzilla (i had godzilla in his chrome armor and one of the mini playsets you showed), exosquad (the macross line, not the mechs), and all the other smaller brands who landed in bargain bins at toystores in the mid-90s.

never had star trek figures myself, but i did find a riker thrifting one time. My memory with that line is a kid down the street had EVERY figure even some army building borgs and other races. and he had the playsets, it was kind of cool looking at all the guys and doing little storys of exploring new worlds. and we would leave the weapons inside and take the figures out and play in backyards it was pretty cool.

9:07 That's the Autobot Pretender Animal named "Catilla". Pretenders was a gimmick in Transformers in 1988, after the show went off the air so they were never seen as cartoon characters. The tag line was "Pretenders hide the Transformers inside!" and that yellow tiger splits in half, and a robot is inside. That inner robot is actually Catilla and the outer "shell" (within the story of the toy line) is supposed to be like an Iron Man style suit that they wear. The Pretender shell gives them extra protection in battle and can also be controlled by the inner robot mentally when they are out of it, giving them a partner to help them in battle. I actually picked this guy up this past May and he's a fun one for sure. $125 isn't horrible if he's complete (robot, shell, helmet and gray rifle).

My mom used to work at Macfrugles before it became BigLots…she got me a few of those Tarzan figures there and some Kevin Surbo Hercules too.. because they were buff looking guys and I liked wrestling.. they looked like wrestling figures to her

I could be wrong but, I think the gun and shield on the star zone figure you opened were based off of the molds for the buster rifle and shield from a wing Gundam figure. If not they look very very close to it. They have the same basic shape but, are extremely thin.

One toy line I’m very very surprised I’ve not seen often and I had a few of the main figures of the line are Double Dragon…I loved the cartoon… though the movie was pretty bad I still at the time was excited to see it, that’s probably the one line not as big as say TMNT, GI JOE, WRESTLING that I’m very nostalgic for.. loved playing with my double dragon figures as a kid

17:08 that happened with me and another random collector only I was your friend in my story. The items were two Mezco Comic Hellboy figures. I bought them as soon as I saw them. I found out about the other collector missing out on it later after I posted them on a forum. Another member said his friend saw them first but decided to look around and think about it for a little bit. But yeah he took too long and they both ended coming home with me. Win.

Thanks for sharing this fun toy hunt! Bummer that you missed out on the Egg Animals; but hopefully someone on the Mattel Masterverse team will be inspired to give fans an updated set of Meteorbs. Seeing the G.I. Joe Manimals makes me wish that the Hasbro G.I. Joe Classified team will give fans modern Manimals and Star Brigade Lunartics at an 8 inch scale. If those figures are executed in the same aesthetics that Super 7 has used in making the TMNT ULTIMATES! I feel that the Hasbro designers can potentially tap into that audience's nostalgia as well or perhaps create a set of new enemies for the next generation of Power Rangers.
