Do you "fall forward" when you run or are you supposed to "run tall" - and can you really do both? You can - and should - but it depends on your understanding of this crucial concept!
Today Coach Nate dives into ideal run posture, hip position and extension, and how to optimally put yourself in a position to use gravity most effectively when running while avoiding a few crucial mistakes. E
Have you made these mistakes before? What other questions do you have? Let us know in the comments....

This was really helpful. Been trying to follow the good advice on running tall, relaxing shoulders, etc. But your last two exercises on falling forward really made it clear and gave me something I can easily practice. Thank you 😊.

This is a great demonstration of how it should feel by leaning into a wall for practice. I am trying to incorporate this more into a running routine. Much appreciation to you guys for your efforts in helping people to fine tune their form.

This is helpful! I know I've fallen into the lean-at-the-hips category in an effort to have that forward lean! P.S. I always love the way Coach Nate delivers the info! He's the best!

Thank you coach nate for this great video. I am definitely going to do the wall drill you explained. Quick question- Does the amount of this forward tilt vary for runners? I ask this because i have observer some good runners running with very upright posture while some others have a very noticeable tilt forward.

Thanks, Coach Nate ! Just curious to hear your opinion, if a higher heel-toe drop shoe would aid this forward fall !
@TheRunExperience
@TheRunExperience 4 жыл бұрын
ChandraShekar Raju good question - I’d say that the decision on heel heigh would be more about ankle range of motion but too often an excessive heel can get us leaning back in the opposite direction in an effort to stay balanced!

I think it's necessary to develop good joint mobility at the ankle and to have strong buttocks and ischicrural in order to take advantage of the gravity force in the fall. Posture should be built with functional strength exercises.

Thanks for "trying" to be helpful. But one big mistake with all these form analysis videos that I've watched is the creators never go the extra mile, e.g. record 2 runs: (1) ideal form with shift hip forward, vs (2) less ideal form without shifting hip forward... show us your theories in action... that's what videos are for.

Ok so i run pretty fast, I’m around 6’1 but when I run at my max speed I almost always fall. It feels like my legs are propelling me forward so much that they can’t keep up when I go to take another step, any tips?

It is really simple "your body parts hate extra weight, to be able to run with super form, you need to get rid of the excess weight you carry"
@manofgod7622
@manofgod7622 4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. - if you still grow to height, the extra weight which your body holds everyday, will force your muscles to develope bigger motor units, and bigger motor unit = more muscle fibres recruited = bigger force, which means type Ia muscle fibres change to type IIa, which can be trained to become type IIb. - if youre an adult, you wont develope bigger motor units anymore, and the extra weight will only change type IIb muscle fibres into type IIa.

Body mass index(BMI) You can search it on google Not specifically made for runners but for people in general
@rachelharper7571
@rachelharper7571 4 жыл бұрын
Yep. There is such a thing as ideal race weight. It's more specific to each person, rather than just a general BMI. Coach Elizabeth from TRE has done a video about it and Matt Fitzgerald has a book about it. Hope that helps!
