There are different stages of gum disease - including gingivitis and periodontitis (periodontal disease). This video talks about the differences between the two, how to know if you have it, and how to prevent it. Healthy gums are important because they directly correlate with the bone that holds your teeth in place.

For someone who has Periodontitis, I have to go get my gums clean every 8 weeks and I have to pay $250 every visit....But the dentist did say on my last visit that my gums actually looked better than before and to continue with my daily oral routine. I’m currently wearing aligners so brushing and flossing is something I have to do like 3 times a day, every time I eat. It was annoying at first, but I’m getting the hang of it.

hi!! i'm soo sad and in panick right now!! i'm 16. i had noticed that my gum was thin and the roots of my teeth were getting exposed, i once told a dentist about my concern and she said everything was fine. also my family were talking about maybe go and seeing another dentist but then covid came up and we forgot about all of that. a couple of days ago, after i ate pickles i noticed one of my teeth was loose! i was frightened! we sent a photo of my gums and teeth to that dentist i was talking about, then again she said there was no recession, they were just puffy. she told me to take vitamin b, use salt-water rinse, use paradontax toothpaste and drink a calming tea before bed to avoid teeth grinding. i wasn't convinced but now where i live is highly risky in terms of corona. there are no doctors are available. for the last couple of days: i drink a lot of water, avoid cold/hot foods or fluids, mostly eat soft things, fully cut off the black tea and coffe, only drink calming and herbal teas, i brush twice a day with paradontax(w a soft brush and really gently) i floss before brushing etc. but when i'm chewing something i feel my front lower teeth are loose. im so scared and idk what else to do, i did a lot of research online and now i seriously think i have periodontitis. and im so pissed of because im only 16 and my teeth are loose, i deserved to be taken more seriously. please can you give some advice for me?? You can have cavities and not know until it’s too late. I was shook when I finally went after 10 years and found out I had 8 cavities and needed a root canal. I used an electric toothbrush and a waterpik. I thought that was enough… it wasn’t 😢 Professional cleanings once a year are the only way to prevent gum disease. Because of my negligence, I now need to get deep cleanings twice a year. You’re not saving money by not going. It gets more expensive the longer you wait. Take it from me.

I just went to the dentist after many years of avoiding due to fear and money. Been bleeding when brushing and bleeding when not brushing. I could see the buildup too of calcium and tartar. The anxiety and fear in my head was worse than reality when I did go. I had to go in two sessions for a root planing and scaling. Numbing shots are your best friends. I do have bone loss and recession, but none are loose (so far). My teeth look so much better. My gums aren’t bleeding anymore nor looking irritated and red. I’m so happy I got over my fears and went. So hard to believe that just a little over a month ago I would see pink in the sink and now I don’t. Removing all that stuff really does let your gums heal.

Fantastic advice. Our mum took us to the dentist on the eruption of our first permanent tooth and it's been a visit every 6 months for the past 5 decades! I, and my brother and sister still have all our teeth! So do my kids, we followed the same advice. There is nothing as valuable in life for health, happiness, and self confidence as a great smile and a healthy mouth. Take care of your teeth and you will feel and look good..........and don't smoke. Cigarettes destroyed a good friend of mines teeth, and at 40 is wearing snap on dentures as he didn't have enough bone to support a full implant procedure. He hates them, it depresses him all the time. He didn't visit the dentist through fear and didn't even know he had a major problem until it was far too late. Always keep some money available for dental visits. It's the best investment you will ever make.

My dentist made me feel quite bad about myself for having it and having plaque on my teeth, ever since my diagnosis I’ve felt quite down about the state of my teeth and gums.

Find another dentist. Your dentist should NOT make you feel bad. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Your dentist should be patient with you and explain things to you. Always always,FLOSS.When you can't floss rinse your mouth with warm water and then spit out. Maybe practice deep breathing & or do yoga as doing these, this will relax you and you won't be as tense when you see your dentist. I hope this helps you. Boy, to be 23 again!! What a great time!! Good Luck

unfortunately most of dentists nowadays are scammers. They are capable of not telling you that you need a treatment for prevent further damage so it gets worse you will have to pay more, or its cos they are unexperienced and it really upsets me that dentists like that are entitled for this jobs, specially when you see a a young 20 years old nurse probably just still learning, attending you . I have came across many of them. I have gum problems too and attended a private dentist few days ago and was attended by a young man for my examination and he said I had no gum disease when I clearly do. I have changed dentist and I really hope I come across a good one this time.

I want to thank you for your videos! Last year I finally found a good dentist and hygienist, had the gum measurements done and I needed a deep cleaning in November. After watching a bunch of your videos I got a Burst toothbrush, a Waterpik flosser, and a pack of ribbon floss. I am happy to report that at my follow-up hygienist visit in February, she took new measurements and ALL of my numbers went down by 1, and a bunch went down by 2! I felt like I had gotten a good report card. :) THANK YOU for helping me take better care of my teeth and gums!

As someone who cannot and has never been to the dentist before in their life, this is scary but both of my parents have periodontitis and I kinda knew that I was gonna get it as a kid. But for about two years now I’ve been brushing my teeth every day and the bleeding was always there. But a few days ago I’ve noticed that there’s bad irritation in the back of my left side of my gums and I’m scared it’s periodontitis. I’m in college and I cannot go to the dentist sadly. I have no idea what to do now.

I don’t know why you’re unable to go to the dentist but I hope you will be able to soon! 😢 I too am in college and have been having problems with my teeth and gums for a few years. I didn’t grow up going to the dentist very often and have only been like twice in my 19 years of life. I recently got the courage to book and appointment as I was scared that I would be judged by the dentist and my parents for letting my teeth get this bad (btw it was caused by hard brushing) . I went for my deep cleaning two days ago. The best decision I’ve ever made. My appointment was split into two so my next one is in two weeks. My teeth already look 10x better (with just slight discomfort) and the inflammation has gone down massively. I will now be taking care of my teeth wayyyy better from now on!!! I hope you end up getting the treatment you need❤️

I need to see a periodontitis. I have a wire retainer in the back of my front bottom teeth. I have been skeptical to floss there in fear of breaking the wire (which happened before), and plaque has built up there. I recently got my teeth cleaned and they said I have gum recession on those bottom teeth in the front. Im scared, I dont want to lose my bottom front teeth. The hygientist said at 32 that's young for me to be experiencing this. My teeth are not mobile thank god. And I'm not experiencing temperature sensitivity. But if you poke the area with something sharp, it hurts (found out while hygentist was cleaning). She said if I want I could get a gum tissue graft to help protect the gum line. But for now I'm making sure i brush and floss regularly, especially there. She also recommended an electric rechargeable toothbrush to decrease pressure on my gums while brushing. Whitney, any thoughts? Please help! 🙏😥

We both had/have moderate ADHD, depression & anxiety. When I started to go to the dentist as an adult the dentist& hygienists guilted me. I got the root planning treatment. Afterwards even after hard brushing& flossing 3x a day they told me there was no way I was actually brushing and flossing because my plaque was coming back. It’s made my anxiety & depression worse & I haven’t went back since. Now my tartar is coming back after having my daughter… 😞 Are all dentists/hygienists like this? Recently spent approximately 3k at the dentist with a deep clean and an other issues over a 6 month period. My overall general health has vastly improved. Since healed. If you’re worried about money, treat your dental health as an investment. Not an expense. You won’t regret it

How fast does it progress? I have a dentist appointment in one week and want to know if I'll be okay. I'm in the mild stage of periodontitis right now.

You have to visit the dentist more frequently. Sometimes intervals of 4 , sometimes 6. Deep cleaning/scaling to start. If your dentist isn't concerned and judging whether you need to come in at 4 or 6 nor doesn't do a scaling, find a new dentist. Periodontitis will progress without professional intervention. Good news Is it can be controlled.

i’m 12 and i found some white spots above my gums. I’m really scared and i’m going to the dentist this friday. My tongue is also white but i brush twice a day. I really hope that it’s nothing serious and it can be cured

Ive just been to dentist for routine check up, had teeth cleaned by hygienist, i look after my teeth but noticed that my gums are receeding, my dentist has recommended a gum graft as she think i have been brushing my teeth too hard, i use an electric toothbrush with a light so i know this cant be the case. I have swapped to senstive oral b heads but worried about receeding gums, i am going through menopause and read this can affect gum tissue is this true?

I just had a bone graft put on at my dentist 2 days ago. The bone in my lower left jaw where my wisdom use to be did not heal properly when extracted and was causing bone loss. My dentist kept saying its important to fix, but Delta insurance did not want to really help cover. Cost me $2000 :(

I'm 24, I went to an orthodontist consultation, found out that I have early periodontitis. I am glad I went to that consultation... I have now booked an appointment with a periodontist. I can't recover that bone loss but I'm glad I can stop it from worsening.

Same. I've had two sessions of deep cleaning. My gums almost always bleed around the same two teeth. My dentist told me to keep flossing , brush at 45 degree angle, and use the Christmas tree shaped bristle picks on parts of my gum. Also said sometimes I'll visit 4 months instead of 6. How are you taking care of your early periodontal disease? Any other tips?

I'm so confused. My gums don't bleed. They don't swell. But every morning only my back right molars "sting" and seem inflamed and worsened with cold foods. Then I'm fine the rest of the day. But I also wear a mouth guard and had TMJ from extreme stress. Maybe it's irritation from grinding.

I will be 30 in less than a month. Had never been to a dentist in my life until 3 weeks ago, never flossed a day in my life, I brush once a day but have skipped a few when I was younger, I have always had crowding (even one of my lateral turned 180°) to make matters worst never use mouth wash and I consume alotttt of sugar. I was expecting to hear the worst when I went to the orthodonist to get bracers but lucky I only got 4 small cavity which one is totally my fault because I open a bottle cap and broken a small piece off 😅. Just goes to show How the bare minimum can save u, not everyone will have my luck also 😂

@@norashikinbintirasid7110 the tech put a numbing gel on my gums, then a couple novacaine shots. She did half my mouth at a time (so my whole mouth wouldn't be numb at once!) And after I was numb she took what is basically a high pressure water pick along my gum line. It was sore for a few days but my gums were so much healthier after.

Kind of hard to trust the dentist when they charge out of pocket even though my insurance says it covers 100%, including periodontal work and the other basic cleaning junk they did. "Yeah its gonna cost you $800" No it should be $0.
@NW-cy4ev
@NW-cy4ev 3 жыл бұрын
Most dental insurances cover preventative dental work at 100%. A deep cleaning is not a preventative procedure and will usually require a co-pay of some sort. I would make sure that your dentist is in network with your Insurance and then I would call your insurance directly and ask them if they cover periodontics and if so, how much.
