hii so i made a mistake talking about my issues with the film beverly hills chihuahua. it was like 2am when i filmed that was my thoughts weren't well put together. i apologize for it being all over the place and im most likely gonna cut it out the video when i get the time to this weekend. edit. that being said, i still do have issues with this movie and just because it's a movie about dogs doesn't give it a pass because there's issues with the human characters in it just as well. this movie is not satire.

The interesting thing about Bratz Jade is sometimes though dolls and the cartoon she has brown eyes and black hair, tan skin, and other Asian features. Other times she has pale skin, green eyes, brown hair, and other white features. Her appearance isn’t consistent. Similar with Sasha, sometimes she has dark skin, black or dark brown hair in braids and dark brown eyes, other times it’s light brown skin (sometimes her skin tone is even white with a tan), light brown eyes, straight brown hair.

I think the Bratz girls are ethnically ambiguous on purpose. So when a bratz series hints at a character's ethnic background, it's not consistent. As a young kid, I saw Yasmin as just brown. Bratz the movie and Bratz pampered petz made me believe she's canonically Mexican/Latina. I started seeing Yasmin as Persian and Latina when I got older and was super into Bratz lore.
@Ariento
@Ariento 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, the Bratz girls are deliberately ethnically ambiguous with the stated reason for the decision being so kids can more easily see themselves in the dolls. Personally I think it's a cop-out and MGA's modern lines LOL Surprise and Rainbow High are doing better (but not perfect, especially RH) at diversity. Not to mention their competitors - not only is Mattel fucking killing it with Barbie in the diversity department, we have lines specializing in dolls of color like Naturalistas and their new spin-off Latinistas. The doll world is doing way better these days.

Your take on Zombies are right. I like the aesthetic of the zombies series but the allegory doesn’t work because it just make it racist such as depicting the werewolves as close to native Americans like what the Twilight series did. And it sad that I saw more dark skinned black girls in a movie but most being the oppressor. Plus I would had much prefer Bree be the protagonist so instead of making Addison the white savior girl.

I cannot ethically recommend Zootopia. It shows that white people wrote a movie about racism with talking animals because it fails to address the fact that racism is systemic. If it did THAT, maybe it could be a better movie. But that is something Disney is probably too scared to talk about or show.

I agree on your take with Zombies..I personally think they should’ve had more diversity with the Zombie characters like they did with the Werewolves. Also, I don’t like/ recommend Zombies 3 because (imo) they should’ve kept Addison a human, because I feel like that’s what made the movie itself stand out…Like in the end *spoilers ahead* she’s revealed to be an alien. I personally think the directors could’ve kept her human since the overall MAIN message of the Zombies movies (specifically the 1st film) is to never be ashamed of your true self/ what you are…

Killing Stalking, the plot is mind opening but also extremely triggering. - Scary Movie. I looove it for its satire on the horror genre, the comedy in that aspect is so so good, but the straight up offensive shit was so hard to watch (I watched it recently for the first time a few months ago). Especially the character who’s basically a caricature of disabled people, which really disturbed me as an autistic person. Idk if the fact that the character was faking it makes that better or worse lol. - Soul Eater. It was my first anime and I still love it, but if I rewatched it now I don’t know if I could actually get through it. Just the sheer amount of objectification of the female characters... idk man. - Pocahontas. Everyone my age has probably seen it and knows the issues with it already, but it’s not something I’d put on for children today. If I had kids I’d wait until they were older to watch it.

TW: SA in Akira I love the anime and manga but hated how the story treated my girl Kaori as a plot device to develop Tetsuo and not her herself. She’s just the main guy’s girlfriend who constantly gets tortured. A bunch of Akira fans have complained about this as well as in the manga where she’s a s** slave who almost gets dr****d and r***d by Tetsuo. On top of that, she watches other girls die from those d**gs. Worst of all, she didn’t take the p**l to help her sickles father, who’s never brought up again. Poor girl…Those fans just want to remove those devaluing scenes, and for me, it ruins the tender moments in their relationship, not that it was ever good. I hate that a bunch of media that has tough elements like m****er and a terrible education system includes r*** to be like, “Look at how irredeemable this male character is!” instead of fleshing out the victims. The same goes for Ichi the Killer (and ultraviolet manga series that was adapted into a movie and OVA and has awful scenes of women being SA’d) and some of the bad Dork Diaries (yes, that series) where the r*** is added into a story (usually Patrick is the attacker) just for drama instead of showing how it affects teens. Same with those background girls in the movie that did nothing. I loved them so much that I named them and gave them personalities.

Another show (by Dan) I didn’t like as a kid was Drake and Josh, because every girl or woman on that show aside from the mom was either a villain or an airhead (or once in a while even both). No proper smart, level-headed, fun, nice girl characters. Victorious which I do actually like has a similar problem also though, Cat and Trina are airheads and Jade is a villain, the only fun, nice, smart, level-headed girl character was Tori (and even then she sometimes whines). Also with Drake and Josh I despised Drake because I found him annoying and entitled (similar to Riley from Girl Meets World) and I struggled to watch a Drake and Josh episode for more than five minutes. iCarly luckily balances out Carly and Sam, as they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I started reading The Bellybuttons/Les nombrils, and it's messy as hell. It's basically French Canadian Mean girls but it's more racy, cynical and gets progressively serious. It's often praised for how it deals with popularity, bullying, body image, socioeconomic class, familial abuse and homosexuality. I can't ethically recommend this series because the sexualization of these teen girl characters is rampant, and it's often reinforced by cruel and perverted male characters. There's a supporting character that uses his suicidality to blackmail multiple female characters. One of the main characters, Jenny is literally the ditzy attractive girl trope. Her best friend berates her for being stupid and her peers make fun of her for not knowing things like simple math, or geography, with the way she's written, it's speculated that she has a learning disability. The other main character Vicky, is Miranda Killgallen dialed up to 11. A running gag in her character design is that her afro textured ponytail doesn't stay down. At least in this story, her mean girl behavior is shown to be directly tied to how her family and peers treat her.

For me one is Moral Orel, I wouldn’t say it’s because of the “blasphemy” conversation, I haven’t seen the full show by far but I would say the reason why I can’t recommend it even though it’s so intelligent and a good show overall, it’s gets VERY dark and disturbing especially if you notice the small details or the deeper meanings behind the things that just get laughed of. The fact that it gets laughed of or not even that sometimes but just gets treated as normal because it is in the Moraltown (the show’s small town) and in real life it does as well, that in a way makes it even more disturbing….

I like this video, it reminds me of Anime Feminists "MY FAVE IS PROBLEMATIC" article series on the website that has a few things I like that I could not recommend to everyone and anyone at all, like "Kakegurai" (trust me its kind of disturbing and I wish I could know that I could express it enough that it is disturbing and not for everyone ) and "Kill La Kill", don't even get me started with the bunch of books I like also are not something I could recommend to everyone that I like, that could take all day. I think the reason why is that there is a really nasty tendency for people who are fans of popular but messed up media that get defensive enough to harass those who criticizes the things they like. stuff like this is cool because it is proof that there is this kind of acknowledgement that people that they know they like is flawed and can see where the criticisms have a point so it is kind of reassuring in a way. thank you for this video you gave us.

I've never watched my scene but design-wise I could totally see Madison as black & white. Even then a character's design isn't that great of a clue towards them being biracial since there isn't really a mixed "look" and most people don't get an equal amount of traits from both parents. If my hair's covered/short I get mistaken as arab or puerto rican (almost no one guesses I'm black or white), I've met plenty of black/white people who just look black, and famously Lukas Arnold, Pete Wentz, and Logic are all half-black.

My personal one is Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase, the anime. As a (NAÏVE) kid, I was drawn to it bc it was an anime, and I liked the gothic aesthetic and that it had to do with vampires (I was OBSESSED with vampires). But as an adult 😬… nope!! I never realized how weirdly they treated characters that “looked” and acted younger (I believe the MC, Hazuki was thousands of years old, cuz she was a vampire, but she looked and acted like a teen.. you can see where this is going). Then again, in retrospect as an adult. it’s not surprising because it was an early 2000’s anime. I haven’t been able to rewatch all episodes as an adult (I honestly have ZERO interest to), but if you watch the opening and ending credits, you’ll see what I mean. The OP & ED songs are CATCHY, but the way they portrayed Hazuki… YIKES.

He was a stranger and they didn't like Cementine being more loyal to Kenny. I think the tragedy of Kenny was well written, I'd say his poor treatment is more arguably ablism and toxic masculinity. The rest of the group mocked and belittled his mental capacity constantly and were themselves perpetuating toxic masculinity for not allowing Kenny to be emotional and grieve. He was a complex character although there was some inconsistencies. I think that conflict was intentional not for misandry but to portray how ptsd like symptoms don't get support and people often don't let men grieve. Then men like Kenny become genuinely dangerous because of alienation and hostility because of their poor behavior due to poor mental health. But thanks for sharing answering!

@@jinx526 No problem. Also I don’t understand why they kept villainizing Kenny when he was just grieving? I also don’t like how the fandom demonizes him and ignores all the good he did and goes through mental gymnastics to justify Jane and her horrible actions. I really feel like I saw misandry there.

@@Lilothestitch I think in the first season Kenny was legitimately unlikable in some regards and depending on choices he was selfish and obnoxious. Then in the second season the way he treated that Russian kid was disgusting his mental state does not excuse that and its fair to see him as a threat or be uncomfortable. Jane was a flawed character too most of the adults were but they had less time so people aren't going to form as strong of an impression. What she did imo was unforgivable. I don't think it's a misandry bias this tends to happens when characters get less or more screentime. The impression will vary and be stronger towards the character who were around longer. I think the other character's hostility was definitely bias about mental health. Because there was scenes of Kenny forgetting stuff and getting very angry. The group had already been traumatized by Carver so I get why they wouldn't want to take risks with someone like Kenny although ultimately they were unfair and cruel about it.

I've seen every episode of the original tom&jerry multiple times when I was a kid. Love the show but that's from THE most racist time in animation. Would never suggest that or the og looney tunes. Not in this life or another

The MGM Tom and Jerry shorts and the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies shorts from 1929-1969 are definitely products of it's time. Scary how the first character in the LT series is an racist black caricature (Bosko) and the last MM short literally features racist depictions of Indigenous people.

I believe in one of the Bratz movies way before the live action (I think the Bratz Kidz sleepover movie? Correct me if I’m wrong)… her dad was also a white man. However, I felt like it was always implied that he was her stepdad (inferred but never directly said), but most likely Jade’s actually Wasian.

seeing as no one has mentioned this show in the 1st day of this vid's release even if it's a clear contender for such a topic /lh, i'd say gossip girl. i love the whole dynamics of each characters' relationship and the plot is awesome, but good grief there are too many unnecessary scenes of... intimate personal time, to put it as plainly as possible. and before i forget to note, chuck fits into this as well. he would have been much better off in my books as some regular chaotic neutral instead of a raging pimp. not to mention the history of some actors here -_-

The Elephant Princess is one show that I do really enjoy watching but I could never recommend to anyone. Honestly the only reason why I enjoy it is probably just nostalgia. I used to watch it when I was around 10. There's just so much racism and cultural appropriation in the core concept of the show. Like basing the fantasy world on South Asia and then not having the main character be asian when she's supposed to be the princess of that world. and the primary villain Diva is a black woman and the norwegian voice actor for Taylor speaks in this dialect that literally no other character has in the dub and he's the only black man. There's also homophobia with JBs character. And the not made in Japan episode is awful in how it portrays the Japanese character. and there's more stuff but I don't remember all of it because it's been a while since I last watched it. And also I'm white so there's probably a lot of stuff I've just missed or don't fully understand.

Stellaris. It’s a fun sci fi space empire strategy game but a huge percent of the fan are well fascists since you have the option to be a genocidal/slave driving empire in the game. (I tend to play machine or Xenophile empires, meaning friendly).

A lot of these i haven't even seen, but thanks for not recommending them. I go through major conflict with dan schneider shows though, I don't know for sure whether or not i want any of those shows on DVD. I'm not even sure if i should get drake & Josh on dvd since i used to love that one quite a lot. One big thing that people must understand though is that Nickelodeon created these shows with the intent to gross people out, and they accomplished that. But i do agree that racism is a major issue in those shows.

i feel like this should have been with my other comment, but all saints street is another little fancy i kind of have distaste for in retrospective. it's cute and all, but the stereotypes tying in with the characters' traits as monsters get worse with the subtle colorism and racism. compare abu, the only blatantly egyptian recurring character, is a mummy that is barely coherent, stoic, quiet and always wrapped in bandages, and the other main recurring characters who are actually more developed and expressive.
