There are people who don't believe that any series or movies starring black women in any genre won't sell because they're so used to seeing white characters as main characters. Animation needs to put more respect on black women's name.

Harriyanna, I just wanna say thank you for your platform. I’m a 20 year old black girl who grew up watching anime and cartoons, and your channel has been my comfort zone for appreciating those things in our skin. You’re such a beautiful woman inside and out and we love what you do! 💕💕

I would really love a shoujo inspired cartoon with a black girl/young woman lead, with a romance that's hyped up for the storyline, romance and characters. Great job on this video.

Given how forgotten/overlooked Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is in comparison to its DTVA contemporaries, I have to say no. Really unfortunate how black women/girl characters in animation are more likely to be overshadowed by other characters but also held to a standard that makes them more likely to be scrutinized for a thing a white character may get a slap on the wrist for or a slew of excuses and defenses. (P.S. your look is so pretty in this Harri, love you 💚)

It's not just moon girl they barely show attention to any cartoon thats main characters are black woman, just like proud family re make the new seasons quality is kinda decreasing, also the whole Tiana show, let's be honest if they was making a show about any other Disney princess it would have had a commercial by now

@@natee5104I’d like to add Transformers Earthspark to the count to. The wider animation culture I feel has never put proper respect on the Transformers franchise, but the latest series features two black-presenting afrolatin children, one a girl, and so that problem ends up intersecting with this one

If you think that's bad, I have literally hundreds of books (mainly fantasy) in my libraries kindle, audible, royal road, etc. and I can count on one hand how many of them even feature a black girl in a main supporting role. As a main protagonist? I can remember maybe 3 off the top of my head. And that's only after I started looking for black authors specifically. So next time you're wondering why book adaptions are always switching races, that's why. From what I can tell, it seems the most common consensus is that authors are either afraid to include us or they just dont know how to write us. Why that is I have no freakin idea. Either way, it's made engaging in one of my favorite hobbies quite disheartening these days.

I’d also add that black characters still aren’t seen as marketable so that can affect what stories even make it to publishing or get attention.

I was told that "If I wanna see a Black Woman, I need to learn how to animate" 😂 Ok. So in order to get representation, we have to make everything ourselves? But the people who already have the money and resources aren't expected to use their already large platform to do good. Ok

The most recognizable flaws Trudy has are is she keeps letting Penny hangout with her so-called (toxic) friends and she is a hypocrite when it comes to Oscar. Sometimes, the characters in that series have always been mean-spirited and that's one of the only parts of the franchise that just never change.

I kept making excuses for not watching Moon Girl. And even when I literally had Disney plus. I didn’t watch it… and, it’s such a high quality show. It hasn’t gotten nearly enough attention. The lead character being a black girl, is definitely a reason for this. And probably that’s a part of my bias for not watching it. Sadly enough, I didn’t want to engage in thought in regards to my own media consumption regarding that. I definitely want to go give it love, and have been wanting too. And, making excuses to just watch comfortable media wont help that atall. Thanks Harri again ❤

I've been reading the Moon Girl comics for years and I adore them. I was so happy to hear that she was getting her own cartoon and was absolutely blown away by the show. Everything about it was just next level. From the voice acting to the animation to the storylines in each episode to the soundtrack. Its truly one of very all time favorite shows now. And I really hope it gets a season two. Its sad to see how anti blackness is contributing to the show not getting alot of attention.

I’d highly recommend Transformers Earthspark and ESPECIALLY Moon Girl for current animation featuring black girls, as well as Star Trek Lower Decks for having a black woman in the lead. I’m honestly not as knowledgeable as I could be so I’m sure there are other great shows out there people can shout out

unpopular opinion: but black women should be the ones to create black female characters because they can give these black female characters a true, better, and accurate representation ever. I don't trust any men who write and create black female characters, because they don't know/never met you and other real life black women in person.
