You don't know!! Or maybe you do, but let me break it down in more simple terms and actually help you learn what happened to possible the greatest athlete of all time, Bo Jackson.
In this video we'll review the injury footage to explain how his hip was injured, discuss some basic anatomy, and then talk about this idea of avascular necrosis and how it happens.
Thanks for watching!!

I watched Bo Jackson play from his days in Auburn to the NFL with the Raiders. Even though I was a "San Diego" Charger fan at the time I couldn't help but marvel at his combination of speed and power. Incredible athlete, too bad his playing days were cut short from a rare football injury.

Yes please do and also his recovery. After his neck surgery, he could barely throw the ball 10 yards. Then a year later is breaking records all over the place. Then regressed badly to the point where he was the worst starting QB in the league. There were reports that HGH was shipped to his house, but he claimed that they were for his wife and he didn't touch them. I'm not making any accusations he took any, but what are the effects of HGH? Would it even even help? Anyways it's a curious case of fast recovery and fast collapse. BTW, love your channel. It's a whole new dimension of insight into sports!

A more inspiring avascular necrosis situation that actually had a happier ending involved former 49ers running back Garrison Hearst. After the injury, to his ankle, it took two years and special transplant surgery for Hearst to defy the odds and bring the 49ers back to playoff caliber status. I don't know if a similar procedure could have saved Bo's hip and career but it's certainly worth a mention here.

@BrianSuttererMD
@BrianSuttererMD 5 жыл бұрын
Good question...surgeons used to cut the meniscus out back in the day but now they try to repair it. If a little bit is just frayed up, they will sometimes shave it down to smooth it out and remove the rough areas. But if it's a big chunk gone they might try to "reattach it" so to speak. If you remove too much you are prone to early arthritis

He’s a very rare athlete where you are just fortunate to have seen stampede over or fly by someone like a downhill freight train. Earl Campbell, Deion Sanders, Barry Sanders, even Mike Vick. But Bo might be the very best athlete I ever saw that wore both uniforms. Was very sad his football career ended with that play. And a class act, just like Shaq. You have to luv the guy
