When the subject of the Patten was brought up, it brought me back to my roots as an old school altar boy. There was nothing like serving a Mass during a New England winter. Every so often, you touched a Communicant on the neck with the Patten and heard the “snap” of a static shock.

I always loved sacred vessels and the symbolism behind many of them, 1. Paten, symbolising the manger at the nativity 2. Corporal, symbolising the burial cloth of Jesus 3. Chalice veil and ciboria veils representing the sacredness of the offering and the Sacred Species. 4. Aspergillum, originating from a verse of Psalm 50, 'asperges me domine...' (Sprinkle me O Lord), which is used before the beginning of a Sunday TLM. 5. Lavabo, the bowl used to wash the priest's fingers, originating from Psalm 26:6-12, the traditional prayer used while washing his hands at offertory, 'Lavabo inter innocentus manus meas....(i will wash my hands among the innocent) There are so many more vessels out there that help us learn our faith more or even call us to prayer

Why does the communion chalice look like an opium poppy? I believe there has to be a connection with the symbolism to early martyrdom in the Roman arenas. Drug addicting wild animals to opium poppies and then inducing withdrawal would create a very aggressive animal. If victims were fed poppyseeds as their last meal and communion rite it may explain the connection.
@Lucylou70703 жыл бұрын
Never ever thought of that. Thank you.
@NMMD15313 жыл бұрын
@@Lucylou7070 Opium poppy, barley and grape symbolism are well represented on ancient coins. The Romans knew full well how to manipulate animals for entertainment. Unfortunately opium poppies have been integrated into ancient society to a much larger extent than modern society realizes. I believe it was integral to have drug addicted animals to perform the types of human atrocities the Romans found “entertaining.”
