2 things. 1. To everyone watching, filters are probably one of the most useful and best investments you can make in your film and photography journey. 2. Omg! That is such an amazing price for that system. If you don't have filters yet, and you can get this kit for under $350, then I would highly recommend you consider it. To give some context I spent roughly $500 on 4 Polar Pro filters.

Ah I wanted to love these! Bought the 7-in-1 set about a month ago to film my surprise proposal to my lady during a backpacking trip in the Red River Gorge. They are of great quality, and the image quality looked great out of my a7r iv. But, I ended up returning them. I loved the magnets, but also hated them. For my use case, my camera typically lives on my Peak Design Capture Clip during our hiking adventures. I had numerous issues with the lens cap, or lens cap + ND filter, falling off the lens during the hike. It seemed like the slightest brushing up against my body would knock them right off. I also had the issue when I'd go to remove the magnetic lens cap, the ND filter would pop off with it, so I'd have to realign almost every time (would fix if you used two hands to remove the cap... But I shouldn't have to use both hands to remove a lens cap).

Interestingly, it's very doubtful (for me) to ever use the 'mist' filters, and I already have a CPL, so the others definitely have caught my attention! My question would be, I've seen a few videos where someone used a 10 stop ND and added another 6 stop on top of it, so is that possible using this filter system? Not that I would be caught in that circumstance, but with the different numbering on these filters, I'm unsure if that's possible in stacking them? I do like the idea of variable...as I do have one, but it's a screw in, and often (as mentioned) can be time consuming, putting on...taking off, changing and going with a different filter again. Great video, thanks!

@@dunnadidit The problem is with multiple lenses you need multiple magnetic adapters which increases cost. With original Freewell filters they can't be purchased separately like with Xume. Can someone tell me how that indiegogo works.. will the full package with filters and base come available at their webside or even amazon anywhere soon :)?
@dunnadidit3 жыл бұрын
It’s a preorder platform, it helps smaller companies fund new products. You get a discount for buying early, but you have to wait a bit to get it. After the indiegogo campaign ends and the product is in full production, they will add it to their site as a normal product.
@kasper80073 жыл бұрын
@@dunnadidit wuaw thanks for the quick answer and good explanation, what about the money i donate on indiegogo do i get the bundle when the campaign ends?? :)
@dunnadidit3 жыл бұрын
Yeah! It’s not a donation at all, you’re pre-ordering the product. Sometimes, crowdfunding can be a bit risky if the company is super new and if the product isn’t fully funded. But because freewell is already a trustworthy company, already has the means to produce these products (they manufacture themselves) and the product is already fully funded… it’s basically just a preorder. It should say on the site when they’re shipping the products out too.

hi dunna, is there any way you can combine the CPL with one of the NDs with this new product? If you have mentioned it in the video, I am sorry I was not able to catch it :)

Part of this product is that if you use the 2-5 filter but flipped around and without the VND base, it’s a CPL. The 6-9 filter used in the same way is an ND32CPL. Hope that helps!

It’s changed a bunch lately. If I’m in the studio, and standing just with a talking head, it will be 35 or 55 usually. If I need to show a desk, it will be somewhere between 16 and 20mm and if I’m out and about it’s usually that same 16-20 to keep me close to the mic.

@@dunnadidit well, my main concern is that I mostly shoot action and fights, so yeah, it's cool that i can rapidly swap filters, but I'm worried about the toughness of magnets so the filter won't fall off if i make quick pans and tilts

Another question, on my Freewell 2-5 stop ND, I find it doesn't have enough resistance to avoid "slipping" (turning) on its own when not wanted. Curious about how "rigid" the turn is on this new system?
@tomazdruml883 жыл бұрын
so what about the corners on a wide angle lens? you'll get some pretty bad vignetting/shadows
@dunnadidit3 жыл бұрын
Nope! Been shooting full frame 16mm with this a whole bunch and had very little to no vignetting. Because the design actually makes the filter wider than the lens itself, they’ve managed to minimize that effect. Maybe if you went wider than 16mm you might have some issues, but most lenses wider than 16mm have bulbous front elements and can’t take screw on filters anyway.

In your older video, you mentioned that the intensity of the mist was different between the 2-5 and 6-9 (the 6-9 had much more diffusion). How would you compare the one they added in this kit? Is it more subtle like the 2-5 or powerful like the 6-9? Thanks!

Looks to be a great system! Great breakdown of the different filters. How strong are the magnets though? Slightly concerned that the filter might pop off with an accidental bump or a strong jerking motion.
@dunnadidit3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t run into the issue of them falling off accidentally except if I pack my bag too tight, ill pull the camera out and the filter will stay sometimes if it got pinched in there. They’re really well fitted so they kind of “latch” in a bit which makes them feel more secure. I’m sure you could shake it hard enough or bump it hard enough to make it fall but it hasn’t happened to me in my regular use.
@TheBser972 жыл бұрын
Late to the game, but I did run into some issues with the filters falling off, or sometimes just the lens cap. This was during a hiking/backpacking trip, where the lens would occasionally rub against my chest using the Peak clip. Loved the filters, but returned them because of this. If you aren't hiking with them, they are an excellent buy

The Freewell magnetic system looks wonderful! But is the 6-9 stop variable ND the same, optically, as the 16-9 variable ND you reviewed against the PolarPros? Because I was surprised at how inconsistent the look of the Freewell 6-9 looked compared to the 2-5, whereas the PolarPros had a much more consistent look between the two filters.
@JohnPaulHerold3 жыл бұрын
Any idea if this would lead to vignetting on a 14--30mm? I could see myself stacking a base filter and VND. I also have step up rings to 82mm (where I've standardized), which may lead to even higher chances. A simple magnetic way to hold a 100mm GND would also be pretty awesome!
