As an Animator and Game Artist, in my experience, Pen Display Tablets are absolutely worth it especially if you are all about saving time. Although not everyone needs to get a Cintiq (cheap models are now available) if you can cough up around $600 for one, the out of box color accuracy of a Cintiq is definitely worth it. On the other hand, if you don't care about color accuracy at all, you will be fine with any other brand.

during my internship i have to write monthly articles about whichever topic I want, and my last one was about digital painting. I talked about the differences between pen tablets and pen displays, the possibility to use your tablets and phones to start getting into painting digitally + apps and affordable programs one can use (: so this was very much fun to watch. as always, lovely video!

I've been thinking about getting a tablet to try digital art to help improve my art skills. Every drawing tutorial/study I see, they are always drawing digitally. Tablets can get pretty pricey. But so do the cost of canvases and paints when they're all added up. I'm hoping drawing digitally will help me actually complete more pieces.

For years I have felt that I needed to get a cintiq style tablet, and I just recently bought my first one, the Wacom One. I do not regret it. I've been using the intuos models for a decade, and drawing on the screen makes all the difference for me. But, I was someone who was frustrated by relying on hand-eye coordination. If I didn't just draw for a hobby, I probably would have bought a cintiq years ago.

Thanks for making this video! As a traditional artist, I wanted to start doing digital more because the cost of the regular supplies adds up and that stuff. Plus, my sister was trying to do more digital art and so our dad bought us the Wacom Intuos. We were so excited to try it and well... While my sister loved using it for drawing I kinda felt it was a bit more difficult to use. I know it takes time to get used to something completely new, but in my experience whenever I tried drawing with the pen, my hand and pen felt disconnected within the screen and all. Plus, my hands can get super sweaty and so I had to use a winter glove, but it was so itchy that I couldn't wear it for long. I felt like it wasn't for me and so I stopped using it. I really want to try it again in the future, maybe we can get an upgrade from the Intuos to the Cintiq tablet and make it easier. I guess the Pen display seems easier for me to work on.

You might be the first person to mention posture when it comes to using tablets - and I am glad you do. I am thinking of investing a tablet, but as a beginner I am not sure what would work better for me, however I do struggle with chronic pain especially when hunched over my work. So thank you for explaining this. I am just wondering if I could used to drawing and looking at the screen. How long did it take you to get used to this? Another concern is also that I am left handed (though I use mouse with my right).

I started off with the ancient graphite tablet, then a bamboo, I hit an improvement with the older Intuos (the older thicker boy), I'm still using an Intuos medium pro, especially when I need to rest my neck from using my Cintiq.

I've used a cintiq 22(non pro) and a currently using a Huion Kamvas pro 24 and honestly for around the same price i definitely recommend the huion for the extra 2 inches and the 1440p screen. Wacom isnt the only option anymore for good screen tablets

I've been using my mouse to draw since my old tablet broke (( rip my intuos )) I think I deserve a bit of an upgrade because using a mouse to draw is a complete and utter crime against my hand so I recently picked this up since I've been wanting a screen tablet for years! And the price is reasonable enough for an entire ass graphic tablet safe to say I'm really freaking excited!

Xp pen 12 is also pretty cheap (250$) and i know you can buy a tablet stand (for not that much). Also i have it without the tablet stand and i work on it a lot (and it is pretty good. I never used a different tablet so its hard to compare).

It won't. If your digital is better than traditional it's most likely due to you still learning the software itself, and a screen won't help you with that much at all. You can basically use traditional tools just digitally once you know what you are doing and how to set things up.

ah man, seeing you draw at that aspect ratio where the softwares UI are covering 50% of the drawable canvas really isnt shipping me this. I get using a display for illustrators, but for general 3D modeling, an intuos is more than most people need. All zbrush modelers create their own macros and hotkeys after awhile, its just way faster to get things done. Pen displays also introduce heat to your palm, parallax mapping problems to the cursor and obstructed UI vision.

When you need to buy a new gear firs you need to ask people who use it, but also here are a lot of personal conclusions, it is hard to get an objective answer, but the key always it is patience, if you wish to save your money, second way it is to find yourself, buy it, try it like it or try it again until you will find the perfect one...In my opinion ipad pro it is the most versatile, also professionals gear, but expensive, also cintiq , i mean expensive, not so bright, and here is what you can do if you are at the biggining of the career: imagine you put an expert to draw something on this cheap Gaomon, i'm sure he can make some cool stuff on it, of course, he can also tell you the problems with tollerance, presure, screen, feeling, gap etc, but in the end he will make something cool, why? Because his/her mind it is trained already to draw, to make things look cool, to deliver what client expect to receive. So dears, the key it is expereince, you hours spended to discover, to draw, to try to make some projects, please save you money, work more and buy this gear and try to get the shit of it, after this you can buy something like ipad witch is nice.
