Really interesting idea! Unfortunately, I cannot access the PDF because it says the "file is in owner's trash." Could you perhaps share a new pdf?

Phenomenal lesson man! I teach some young students (10-12 years old) and I've been trying to figure out a way to help them develop their ear. I love the idea of treating learning licks as a game, I'll definitely be using this method with them. Thank you!!

Oh man, musical games with kids are the best! At that age they also get to learn about rock music by being introduced to these licks.

Simple is also great with younger students. They love playing it, and making fun variations from it. They also like when I play Glide, too difficult for most kids to play though.

I'm liking the new series. I also teach ear training and have used similar methods. Licks, or riffs, are a perfect stepping stone to confidently transcribing larger pieces of music. Though I've had a few students who had a hard time even with riffs. How about you? Any tips to helping them out?

I have quite a few students who gave up on building their ears, and I can say that they are fantastic musicians, doing all kinds of things. But, for those who really want to build up their ears, but struggle to do so, I had to take a few steps back and simplify it even further at the beginning stages. For example, I'd play an interval and have them recognize if it's ascending or descending. Work on that. Have them go through various daily exercises. The one's who stick with it usually start to get it. Each student is different, and it takes getting to know them in order to understand what might be blocking them. Good luck!

Btw, a question: do you mean the lick ( a piece of melody) of the riff (a melodic construnction that repeats through the song)?
