Do You Need A miniDSP With A Denon 3700H That Has MultEQ-X?

I have both MultiEQ X and a Mini-DSP 2x4 HD. I stopped using the MiniDSP, it added too much delay for my subs to get time-aligned with the rest of my system without delaying all my speakers. I preferred the way it sounded without using the MiniDSP and time aligning everything with REW after the MultiEQ X calibration using my own house curve for all speakers and subs.

Thanks for showcasing my question Michael. I never considered the EQ-X. I was planning to see how the independent sub outs would look first and then consider purchasing a minidsp. I have dual subs on the way for my 4700h so I was planning to do the same thing. Maybe I’ll just get the EQ-X. I’d like to hear other viewers experience with both like the comment from Bobbie. 👍👍 good stuff thanks

Can you force Mult EQ X to consider the consolidated subs as one before the calibration? As far as I know that is not possible as Audyssey always tries to set its own delays for the subs during the calibration. Those delays may not be the ones you want. Especially when using MSO. The same applies for setting of individual EQs for the subs. Dont know if that is possible of Audyssey since it treats the subs as one once the delays are set. For MSO individual EQs are also needed.

Wait…there’s a major issue with changing the bass in the iOS Audyssey app but they’re making a fix for MultEQ-x? Why not update the iOS app?

Yes. But Denon and Marantz publish the app, not Audyssey. You pay a premium but it’s well worth it to get the latest updates pushed by Audyssey themselves.

The Audyssey Editor app is made by D&M (Denon and Marantz) if you notice. MultEQ-X is made by Audyssey.

Hmm that seems wonky and not ideal. So if there’s ever a problem with audyssey, D&M won’t fix it? 😕
