This doesn't make sense to me at all. If you are expanding your teeth outward and forward, as my Vivos appliance did for me, there must be significant gaps that form between teeth simply due to simple geometry. I had a great bite with no gaps since I had orthodontics as a teenager before beginning Vivos treatment. After 2 years of wearing the appliance 18+ hours, and slowly expanding the device, I don't have any gaps in my front teeth, but significant gaps on the side and back teeth which make it terribly difficult to chew food properly due to an incorrect bite. I have to brush, floss and use picks after every meal now. According to 4 different Orthodontists I have visited, I will now need significant orthodontic work (18-24 months) to correct my teeth and bite.

After appliance treatment, the appliance needs to be set aside. The teeth will then move forward and horizontally towards the mid-line. The spaces top to bottom should be mostly between the back teeth. A lot of the space will close after 6-12 months. Imagine getting a bigger room, you can still get the teeth up against on another again, but you want to do that going forward not backwards. The braces will move the teeth back and you will lose some of the forward position if you do it right away. As an aside, the appliance should not have been worn 18 hours per day (10-16 max) and also expanded no more than 1x per 2-3 weeks.

@@SereneOrthodontics Every Vivos provider I'm aware of recommends 18+ hrs per day for most effective and fastest treatment. The provider I go to has done many many cases and is a major Vivos trainer of other dentists. One would think they should know what they are doing, but perhaps not. They do not recommend waiting 6 to 12 months before starting orthodontics with Candid. From my standpoint, I'm done with the Vivos experiment, and just want to move on and get a proper smile and bite back. I'm working with a sleep doctor specialist to address my continued sleep apnea problems. I have wasted far too much money and time already.

@@Kimmer I think you are case and point that the protocol you received did not produce optimal results. I have been doing DNA appliances since before Vivos registered a company or thought about buying the appliance from Dr. Singh. I am not giving you specific advice, you should go to your doctors for that. But I have done 1000s of these cases and we do not get these kinds of results. Treatment with these kinds of appliances is technique sensitive and the design of the appliance (by the doctor) and the adjustments by the doctor through out treatment (most notably to the bite area) are critical. Also the rate of expansion and where the expansion happens and when are pivotal. Additionally ever cases is different. The same instructions do not work the same for each patient. Most less than optimal results are more about technique and not caused by the modality of treatment. That is like blaming a tool for the result of how it was used. For example, teeth tipping and gum recession are most often the product of expansion that is too rapid. Or over expanding. Poor relationship between the upper and lower jaw or worsening of facial asymmetry is poor management of the bite area and/or excessive wear time of the appliance. Blaming an appliance is convenient, but it is more about what the doctor and patient did. Sometimes additional appliances are necessary for optimal results. An experienced provider usually sees that coming from the beginning. Value is in the eyes of the spender. But I think with some careful orthodontics you can get your results and your case has been bettered by the DNA. You are just not a finished case. I also never tell my patients that they will or will not need orthodontics after treatment. There are many reasons why it may or may not be necessary. Or it may even be optional. Some cases are just difficult too. Especially cases where long standing problems exist whether they be TMJ or sleep or posture or all three. There are no magic bullets. The DNA appliance only makes structural changes. Poor sleep problems has everything to do with the tongue, nose and the tone of the airway. We usually bundle myofunctional therapy, sometimes releasing tongue ties and lip ties. Breathing exercises and PT and chiropractic. Best of luck and hopefully you can get the results you were looking to get. Just keep pushing forward and don't give up.
