These appliances seem like they could just move the teeth rather than the actual alveolar bone that the teeth sit in. If that is the case then you will have the teeth moving outside the bone leading to root fenestration and dehiscence. is this not true?

Just got a new upper Homeoblock appliance and think it wasn't made correctly. The acrylic in the middle is shorter and not as curved as the old one, and doesn't touch the arches or the palate at all, even when I swallow. I can't make it touch the palate even if I suck and swallow hard. It now feels like it puts pressure ONLY on the teeth. The old one put pressure on the arches, not just the teeth, and would briefly touch the palate when I swallowed, and felt like it put pressure on the arches not just the teeth. It cost $400! But my doc says the lab probably wouldn't refund or replace for free. Shouldn't the shape and size of the acrylic be standardized? The criticism of Homeoblock and Vivos are that they're only "tooth borne" appliances, but I don't think that's true since the acrylic (if made properly) puts pressure on the entire arches, not just teeth. But this new appliance does just that, puts pressure ONLY on teeth.

what do you mean by tooth borne? I am just starting to research all of these oral appliances after suffering from poor sinus breathing almost my entire life. I'm miserable when trying to sleep and all I do is mouth breath...

If the lab screwed up, they are obligated to pay. If they are not "legally" obligated to pay for their own mistakes, you can thank your politicians for allowing lax laws that allow exemptions from product liability to medical device providers and manufacturers. I often say to myself, "I should have been a doctor or medical device maker because I can make money even if the product or service I offer is worthless." By the way, I have been using the Homeoblock device for 13 months and, so far, have not noticed even a minor improvement in my sleep apnea symptoms. What a total scam and fraud! I consulted with Dr. Belfor in NYC and another orthodontist.

You know all of the pictures I have seen show the palatal expansion done to the top jaw and teeth, but what about the bottom? If you expand the top and not the bottom won't the teeth not line up? Or is it thought that they will eventually?

According to the literature, as the maxilla expands, the mandible will also expand and disclude to naturally establish and maintain symmetry. It does this epigenetically.

@@Ufhhh12 i had a hyrax expander and daemon braces at 35 and ive increased bone mass seen through cbct? I see nothing wrong with this device if the wearer is compliant in mewing, hard chewing an hour a day, not sucking cheeks while swallowing and taping the mouth at night. Compliance is more important than appliance. Look at the studies. If you dont believe it works thats upto you but id like to see some studies that say it doesnt work because theones i see say it works. Its not working the same speed as say MSE but from what i see its a good device for adults to help get slight changes.

@@CelindaBelle Its the opposite. It develops bone due to the stress placed on the palate. I am still expanding my palate. There is now more room for my tongue to be placed on the top of my mouth. It expands the palate first then i feel my teeth shift a bit. But crowded teeth is due to a narrow palate. My ortho told me that my teeth will begin to shift to where they should be after I develop my palate. He said it should almost straighten my teeth properly. He said I may need minor braces for finishing touches at the end after my palate is expanded.

@@Dave-fr2ep thanks and I know what you mean. My ortho said after the expansion bwould be done they don't even use braces, just another type of retainer to align the teeth. I have booked in for my mould apt however after reviewing the stuff about AGGA expanders causing bone loss it really concerned me and I didn't know what to think! Additionally this weekend I had the most improvement in my tongue strength 🙈 I was so excited I thought "what if I'll be able to mew myself to a better wider maxilla now 😂" . May I ask did you have a strong tongue before going ahead with the expansion? Like able to do a bunch of tongue exercises?

@@CelindaBelle Not sure what exercises you are referring to.. I just know that there was not enough space for me to place all my tongue at the roof of my mouth. But now I can feel I can start placing my tongue at the roof of my mouth due to the increase in space. Once I can comfortably fit my tongue there through palate expansion I will then start looking into exercises to strengthen the muscles.

You can't. Parts of the appliance design are patented, so you can't procure it anywhere other than through an approved provider.

These palate expanders look identical to my homeoblock. They send you an impression kit, you give them your dental impression, they then send out a custom fitted palate expander. You then expand your appliance at home which is very easy.
