Cedar shoe/boot trees are necessary for quality footwear. The shoe/boot tree keeps the boots' shape and helps absorb the moisture in the leather preventing odor and the leather rotting from the inside out. Trees add years of wear to your footwear, they pay for themselves in the long run.

Shoe trees are a must. I have to wear green tags work boots as part of my job. I have three pairs at the moment provided by the company. The oldest pair are good as new. As they have been cleaned, conditioned once a month and at work they live with a shoe tree in them. My second pair also at work also live with with shoe trees on them and are conditioned once a month. The last pair I have at home with boot trees in them and they are conditioned once a month.

Very informative video sir. I bought the cobblers choice and I’m glad that I got the right size. Lol. I ordered a pair of the Red Wings Blacksmith from the store after trying on an Iron Ranger. I can’t wait until they are delivered. After seeing the Iron Ranger in person, I am now a fan. I’m eyeing the Black Harness color way. There’s something about the construction and the build when you put Red Wings on for the very first time. Later.

Just got a pair of shoe trees for my new Thursday captains. They were already labelled on the lower end of what I'd consider my size but even so they're so tight and they barely fit in. I want to use shoe trees, and I've tried some but returned them because it seems they would put a lot of tension/pressure on the back of the shoe/boot and I didn't want them to ruin the inside construction because of the significant pressing into the materials. I guess I need to try something else that might work better.

Woodlore is the best way to go. The Cobblers Choice with the extra shaft support work well for some boots. Viberg 230 O.K. 2040 No Go. The wooden ankle just doesn’t match the cut of the boot and don’t fit all the way inside leaving a pressure point, actual visual bump, pushing out the leather above the heel counter, that’s probably a problem. Sizing on most shoe trees work as advertised except if the boot is a higher volume like Viberg 1035 and Wolverine 1000 mile that I’ve gone up a size from large, 10.5 iron ranger 10 Viberg 2030 to XL, 10.5 1000 mile 10 Viberg 1035. I agree you don’t want to compress the spring to much but It should hold itself in place without rattling around inside the boot.
@GentlemansJourney

The only bespoke boot I've considered would be Schmidt's Bootmaker out of Wyoming but their styles just don't resonate with me and they're in the ~$600 range of Nick's. If you're spending hundreds of dollars on boots that aren't a cheap garden/yard/work boot, it makes sense to spend the $50 for those nice Cobber's Choice boot trees. My dad used to have that metal shoe tree for his army dress shoes.

Certainly covers many of your bases going that route. The wood shoes trees has a spring that will help hold the shape of the boot a bit better and cedar helps to keep bugs out. Glad to hear you care about your boots mate. Blessings! 🥾🥾

@GentlemansJourney
@GentlemansJourney 2 жыл бұрын
For the most part it will be too hard to compress and uncomfortable to put in. It shouldn't be sloppy but also not an intense battle every evening. Based on that combo it sounds good. I use the L Cobblers Choice in a size 11 Red Wing Iron Ranger, and I can run the XL in there without feeling like it would be too tight.

I hear your concern, I figure the type of wood matters and the Cedar is widely known to absorb moisture. I could see what you mean by it filling the entire space, not allowing air. They do have plastic styles as well but I trust the cedar more. Cheers and thanks for watching.
