Incase you were googling McHitch and wondering why it looks different, I kept referring to the 'Mister hitches' as McHitch which another hitch I have (not pictured). 🤦🏽

There's definitely a correct way to orient the hook try and tell a dogger or rigger that it doesn't matter and watch their head explode. I'm pretty sure your way is correct but if you want to be certain i'd ask a rigger. Taken from the link below "Facing inwards towards the load is what can create “tip loading”. The hooks can elongate well below their Working Load Limit (WLL)." www.doggingandrigging.nsw.gov.au/dogging-and-rigging-guide/lifting-equipment/alloy-lifting-chain/best-practice-when-using-slings

the retainers on the hammerlocks MUST be around the correct way when inserting the pin. they sometimes have and arrow on them which is the direction you insert the pin. if not the pin goes in through the open side of the retainer NOT the closed side or you can drive the retaining rings out of the inside of it. (remove the pin going in the same direction if you want to take them apart or they can bind and you wont get them apart) also check your local laws on attaching chain to the drawbar, in New Zealand it is illegal to weld the chain to the draw bar as the chain looses its rating and also must use a certified trailer safety chain at minimum. latch gates of hooks should be UP when attached and remove any twist out of the chains. - ex chain and rigging certification technician here.

Hooks are designed for constant load, safety latches on hooks are not load rated when a chain goes slack and a ball fails the chain can twist and roll out of the safety latch, following lifting standards,

Hi. Eddie Thanks for your video. Can I ask about tyres. I lifted same like your king springs 40mm front /20mm rear. You got maxiss 295 with oem rims. I planning to go maxiss mt 305/70/17. Do you think is that fit?
@Eddie_Turbo2 ай бұрын
Hey thanks mate, I only have the rear springs, front is stock (for now). There have been a number on guys that have fit 315/70/17s to stock raptors with only minor scrub, so I reckon with a 40mm lift you should be sweet with the 305! But I cannot guarantee this as I have never tried.

Thank you for the referral. Curious as to why you want to tow nose-down? Nice to see warning about drop hitches which are over-used, but the extra downforce isn't that much. There is however extra stress on the hitch itself, so drop hitches should be avoided if possible.
@Eddie_Turbo5 ай бұрын
Hey Robert (big fan) and thanks so much for tuning in! When I say nose down, I mean ever so slightly. In my experience towing empty trailers that will later be filled with building material and or camping equipment, as you'd be well aware, additional weight will cause the springs to settle/sag. With a cage trailer having the nose slightly down whilst empty will prevent the trailer from being 'nose up' when adding payload into it. Even with correct loading. This is of course my personal opinion through experience over the decades of loading heavy things into empty things. This obviously changes when the trailer weighty is constant/static like say a caravan. Do you have any feedback regarding the orientation of the gate? In your opinion, are the hooks installed correctly or should I rotate them 180deg? Eddie
@Weetbix1969Ай бұрын
if slightly nose down the weight will more likely stay on the ball, if nose up you have a chance of the drawbar dethatching from the ball so always better have a downward load on it. also stabilises the trailer better. look at videos of front or rear loading on a trailer at how they react.
@Eddie_Turbo9 күн бұрын
I feel the trailer tows so much better nose down a little. Feels less likely to sway, especially on twisty, off camber country roads.

Don't listen to this guy in relation to Ball Height. Ball weight is far more important. Lowering the ball will reduce weight with most dual axle trailers.
@Eddie_TurboАй бұрын
Ball weight is definitely important, proper loading of the trailer is super critical, I totally agree with you. But that's a whole other topic, is was just about the hammer locks and chains and things to consider when using a drop hitch. Also the balls weight on this trailer is only 140kgs. Cheers for watching
